Gator01 - Team B - 100K

I can't type the letters to match the sound I am (was) making. Anyway, oops? I seem to have screwed this whole operation up. I will play tomorrowsish.

(unless ainwood wants to take it, because I will check the thread before playing, and do not want to mess it up again)

Play it. I forgot I have work Monday night, and I was counting on having time to finish up a few programs before submitting them to my teacher. Since I do not have time then, I want to do them tonight and can't put time into this game now. So please play.

Rush a spear in Kharkov, change Grand River to settler, as per NPs suggestion.

Hit enter.

IT:
England wants ROP & Alliance v Persians. Considering the sheer number of immortals behind our lines, I decline.

Turn 1: 110 AD:
Germany has 19 archers and a spear about to take Yakutsk!
I consider our war on Germany and decide that taking Minsk may not be a good idea. Next to it is a stack consisting of an archer army protected by 2 pikes and 2 spears fortified on a hill. I figure that getting some help in reducing Germany is a good idea, so I get an embassy with Xerxes for 37 gold. It costs us spices, gems and 4 GPT. I then decide to gift them Yakutsk, which will be taken next turn, and they turn to gracious.

Destroy a Pike, Archer and longbow stack, preventing them from getting to a mountain overlooking sevastapol.
I decide to bypass minsk, and head towards the iron.
Send a second stack to take leipzig.

IT:
Get cut to pieces by german long-bows. Lose 3 MWs, and have a further 5 retreat.

Turn 2: 130 AD:
I will try skirmish tactics v Germany.
I retreat from my front towards Leipzig, pillaging the road so that I will get a free attack at their stack next turn. I take two undefended longbows, and a longbow / pike pair.

IT:
Lose 4 MWs to german archers & longbows (including an elite one to a red-lined longbow :(). German stack near leipzig retreats - probably to protect leipzig (a pike near iron runs past it) - but that's not our target!

Turn 3: 150 AD:
Legionaries appear near Tyendenaga - they won't talk, so I rush walls.
Take out 3 german longbows, and move to pillage iron next turn.

IT:
Japan and england ally against Germany.
4 legionaries and an archer emerge from the FOW next to gyagahee. I change to build spear - they won't talk yet.
We lose 3 more MWs to Germans.

Turn 4: 170 AD:
Destroy sword, and a few longbows. Destroy sword on hill.
Pillage german iron, and take nuremburg with no loss. Take cologne with no loss.

IT:
30 units poised to sack gyagahee - rome won't talk.
They land a legion near moscow, and germany land two swords near it as well.

Turn 5: 190 AD:
use my stack to wipe out two pikes and the german archer army.
Disband gayahagee - we don't want the war-weariness, nor rome to take a stronger bargaining position (whenever they will talk).

IT:

Turn 6: 210 AD:
Position troops for attack on Minsk.

IT:
Rome withdraws.

Turn 7: 230 AD;
Rome will negotiate. They want 2 GPT asnd 141 gold for peace. I destroy a legion, and for some reason they now want 3 GPT + 141 gold! :(
130 gold and 3GPT is what we settle on....
Germany will negotiate too. They will give-up chivalry.
I take Minsk with no losses.
I destroy 3 longbows as well.

IT:

Turn 8:
Leipzig has shrunk to size 5 - will attack it. Mass some troops.

IT:

Turn 9:
Take Leipzig. Up Luxuries rate to 10% to shed some entertainers.

IT:

Turn 10:
Capture Frankfurt for no losses (Very lucky, considering it had two fortified pikes on hills - had 3 retreats).
Move MWs into position to attack Berlin.

Got it, and can play tomorrow. Though I still haven't figured out one little thing for my homework.

Nice turns ainwood, though it sounds like you had to make some difficult decision.

Yes, well played (though I haven't looked at the save).
Do we have any culture yet? ;)

I'll take it again after bed head if nobody else wants it. :)

I'll swap with you if you like bed head. If you would prefer that just post to let me know. I'm on my own in a hotel without internet access this week and have some time on my hands for a change. :)

Here is the >>SAVE<<

270AD: Pre-turn
Swapped some clowns for tax-men.
MM'd Salamanca for 10spt from 8
Some other MMing but not much.Trade Spices and furs to Rome for Dyes. I'm guessing we will need to take out Persia next. And we need a leader badly.

May need a couple of turns to heal up before taking out Germany.

280AD:
Position enough troops to take Berlin next turn I hope. Send all wounded units to barracks. Decide to risk leaving some more cities undefended and send more units to the front. Persia are a risk, but we have a strong military and they are already at war with Germany.

IBT:
Renew Incese deal for spices and furs with England.

290AD:
Lose 4 units taking Berlin, but succeeded, generated a leader, and now we have the pyramids. I won't sell granaries yet since it may flip back. Question is, do I put FP in Moscow or Berlin or Maybe Legendary city? Hurry temple in Smolensk so it can start a settler.
Hurry a mounted warrior in Tblisi for the same reason.

300AD:
I decide that Legendary city needs the FP. It is far enough away that I have to leave it for a turn. I don't want to risk elites with no leader opportunity so I reposition troops instead.
We are in a bit of tech trouble. Do we build libraries for research and culture or markets for money and happiness?

310AD:
Hurry FP in Legendary city - Renamed to Forbidden Legend.
Lose two Mounted Warriors taking Heidelburg, but generate another leader  I guess a palace jump is required. Of course now we have the Great Library as well. :D Just ignore the 300AD remarks.
Rush Palace in Berlin.
Capture Kongsberg for the loss of two MW.
With the reconfuguration of our empire I switch all temple builds to library, because upkeep per culture point is lower.
Load a couple of MW into a galley and set sail for Salzburg. It may only have a couple of spears in it.

320AD:
Our Empire falls into chaos. 8 cities riot. We haven't learned Education from the Great Library so I sell Heidelburgs improvements, evacuate the city and give it to the Russians.
Capture Munich for the loss of 2 MW.
Declare war on Russia.

330AD:
Capture Hamburg without loss which contains the Hanging Gardens.
Capture Novogrod without loss.
German Capital has jumped to Bremen which is on an island. Therefore I take Salzburg and Stuttgart in a peace deal.
Trade for dyes from Rome.

340AD:
Education is learned by someone. Got the library just in the nick of time I'd say. I leave it there as it is too late to continue. There are some units on automove, but they will complete their journeys next turn.

We can keep science on single scientist or switched off altogether for as long as we want, so long as we recapture the GL before we learn education.

I forgot about our city near the outlying Russiun cities to the south of our original capital. It may require a spear or two rushed here just in case.

Somehow we need to manufacture a strategy for taking out the Persians. They have a lot of units and many knights. It's a difficult task, but we need to improve our new cores enough to support the production required. We can discuss it anyway. The game is essentially won now, it is just a question of methodology. What is the quickest way to 100K? I wonder how the other teams are fairing. :hmm:

Sorry I couldn't complete 10, work ran on till 9pm the other night - managers just don't know when to stop at our place.

If you want to play a couple extra tomorrow, go ahead. I just realized I somehow made my way into over 10 SGs, not including SGOTM. I am pretty well taken care of in terms of stuff to do. However, if you do not want to play tomorrow, I will go ahead and put this at the front of the queue, as I should have already played my turnset by now.

I can't play tonight as I am travelling. But you shouldn't feel under any pressure to play quickly. Normally you have 3 days from now, and this game is at a leisurely pace anyway. I guess the next 20 turns wil be fairly dull builder turns at the end of which there will be an almighty war with Persia, with Egypt dragged in to tie up some units.

But for now it is a micromanagers dream.

Looks good MB!

RE the Persians: I drew them into the war with germany, and they were pretty ineffectual - they cleaned up a massive stack of germans the were north-west of St Petersburg, but were mainly concentrating on the russians. They cleaned-up the odd unit wandering through our russia as well, but aside from that basically ignored the german homeland - surprising given the proximity and the fact that some cities were fairly lightly defended. Given the lack of input into the war that I saw from Persia, they probably have quite a few units.

Leo's in is Rome, so upgrading our MWs is going to be expensive. How about we start building knights, and draw Persia into a war with Egypt? They are both about the same size, and so can deplete each other whilst we rebuild our forces. The other advantage to this is that with Egypt its one less religious civ to compete with for culture!

Yes I mostly agree. We only have 6 workers + slaves though and the new cores are not developed. :( We also need to build some culture. Therefore I think I would allow the present culture builds to complete in the new cores whilst we improve them, keep science at zero and upgrade the MW's we have and any more we can slip into build queues in the meantime. We are in some trouble in a lot of ways. Now we have the pyramids for example we will need markets much quicker.

It's just my opinion though. I guess we are at a decision point as a pilot might say.

340 AD (0) - I would feel better with building temples. If we need to catch up in techs, Heidelburg is always there for us.

In between - Built only culture, pretty much. Starting barracks in places that did the basics (library, temple) and then units.

440 AD (10) - We have a stack in Cologne, awaiting upgrade (or at least vets). There are two settlers. I had one headed for the spot 2N of where they are, and the other was going to fill space in the desert. We are still at war with Russia, but WW hit after a longbowman showed up and killed an MW. So we could consider peace. We need to protect Heidelburg from the Persians. It will be a lot easier recapturing from Russia. Military builds will be in order soon, but I wanted to get us some culture now, as we have about half of Japan's, which just felt wrong.
