Gator01 - Team B - 100K

I am not sure if that is the best for the game. So I guess I'll do what you said you were going to do, and start the war and then hand it off to the next player.

910 AD (1) - No time like the present. I make a demand of Persia, they refuse, then I demand they withdraw their troops and I declare. We have no defensive units, so bombarding is out of the question for the time. We get a lot of retreats, so we only lose three cavalry in killing the three rifles in Susa.

gator01B_910AD_susa.jpg

We lose another cav and an elite MW killing the stack of six units that was outside of Susa. Pop a leader killing a longbowman with another elite MW, and even though armies are pitiful I decide to make one. We should be able to get another leader before ToE. The army takes out the first defender in Ghulaman, we then lose only one cav before killing off the second rifle and taking the city.

With no defensive units to speak of, the IT will be a bit hairy, but if we make it through we should be in good shape. And just to help things out, make the alliance with Egypt for 7gpt, and just for fun, ally with Japan for 20gpt. The Persians and Japanese border each other in a few places, so maybe the Persians can take out a city or something.

IT - Things go pretty well. Cavalry attacking cavalry fortified in cities on hill can't retreat, as the Persians learn. We only lose a couple of MW that I expected to lose and a cav.

920 AD (2) - Do some limited clean up, but mostly healing.

IT - Pretty terrible luck here, but nothing disastrous happened.

930 AD (3) - Take out tons of units, and all four losses came to the same rifleman, who seemed to somehow keep cavalry from retreating or causing damage.

IT -

940 AD (4) - Buy England in against Rome for 7gpt.

IT -
gator01B_940AD_england.jpg

950 AD (5) - Have to abandon a town by Rome.

960 AD (6) - Have to abandon another town by Rome.

970 AD (7) - Cannons at Persepolis perform spectacularly poorly. Hold off on attack until next turn.

980 AD (8) - Capture Persepolis with only a few losses. Next IT could see a few, though.

IT - Wow. Nothing. I think the Persians are in not so good shape.

990 AD (9) - Have to rush a Galleon up in the old core to to get some cavs over to our cities by Rome.

1000 AD (10) - Force is outside of Pasargadae. Settlers are on the way to replace Persepolis and get us wines (setter is under the cav in the picture NE of ruins)

We are probably going to lose New Cattaragus to the Romans next turn, but we may be able to get it right back, depending on our luck. We need a few more cavalray over there to have a shot, and maybe we need to rush some stuff over there. I was mostly focusing on the Persian campaign, and trying not to spend too much. I think I spent about 300g on rushing in the whole set.

Culture is up, but not notably. We will really have to get it going soon to get a date anywhere near decent. I think it will suffer a bit because we aren't really taking much advantage of the rank exploit. What is the date we are shooting for? I have already forgotten.

Oh, almost forgot. I got sick of waiting for Medicine so that we could trade for Steam Power, so I just went ahead and with a safe steal got it from Japan for 2300ish gold. So we can go ahead and start railroading. And Electricity is known by all of them.

Also, we got lots of elite wins without a leader, so are due another one in the next ten. Had to up lux to 10% because of WW on my last turn.

And just in case you're interested, a view of the world.

Nice start against Persia. :goodjob: If the Romans are only attacking with legions and mediaeval units, I suppose we should be able to contain them before long.

There are a few cavalry mixed in there. Those were my first priority, though, so you don't see them anymore.

Actually, checking back through who has last played, I think it falls to Bedhead, then me, then you Space. Although whoever can get to it should feel free to, given the pace this one has moved at.

So, KB, going by his own calculation. :D

Preturn- I am perplexed as to why we aren't railroading much at all. Will get a start on that ASAP. Otherwise we look fine.

IT- We lose the city to the Romans, and a couple cav to the Persians.

T1 1010

We recapture the city, but our troops fail to take Parsagadae.

IT- We get smacked up by Rome again.

T2 1020

WW has hit 60% in some places, but we can't make peace for 9 turns due to alliances. I raise lux and check all our cities for war shiners. We fail to take Parsagadae again, but kill a acouple more rifles.

IT- Rome is completely overunning the peninsula.

T3 1030

I sell off our stuff on the Peninusula, as we can't hold it. Pasargadae is finally ours. I cash rush some cavs with the huge amount of gold we got from capturing Persian cities.

IT- Rome takes the last remaining cities.

T4 1040

I work on reorganizing our attack force in Persia.

IT- zzz

T5 1050

Same as before mostly.

IT- zzz

T6 1060

Move our newly assembled SoD into Persian territory.

IT- Persia has a nice wave of cav, retakes Pasargadae.

T7 1070

Persia now has infantry everywhere

IT- zzz

T8 1080

Out of Spite I charge Arbela anyway, and actually fare decently well, razing the new Persian capitol.

IT- Persia sign in England against us, scratch one ally and our incense. Mass rioting.

T9 1090

I forgot we are religious, forget this WW crap, we revolt.

IT- England declares on Egypt.

T10 1100

We are a nice producitve Monarchy now, rid of 60% WW. We make just as much money as we were.

Summary

We should finally be able to retake Pasargadae for good next turn, and then make peace with the Persians hopefully. It would be nice if we could swing Industrialization or Electricity from them, we need more production and better troops asap.

We learned Steam in my last turn. I could have interrupted the workers doing other stuff, and probably should have, but by the end I didn't really feel like looking around for our workers and waking them up to start railroading.

No worries bed head, I figured as much later on when I checked things over. When i first looked though I just had that reaction. I don't honestly think that you would be mining mountains instead of railing had you the option.

pre-turn
Game looks fine, I switch size 12 Koningburg to Cathedral.

IT
We got an extra source of Gunpowder poping up on our turf. :)

turn 1 - 1110AD
Take Parsagadea without loss and 1 Elite win. Our canons resized it to 2 and capture auto starved it to size 1. :)
Make peace with Persia, buying industry for a rather hefty sum, but can trade it with Egypt for Electricity. Start Medicine at min, it's due in 18 turns, but we'll probably be able to buy it later with a discount.
Persia has Rep Parts, but I don't know whether they have Rubber (I haven't seen any Infs).
Buy peace with Rome for 120g because I want to rail the way to the front first and put down a few cities in the gaps. In 20 turns we should be able to take some of the non-core Roman cities.
Smolensk, Moscow and Berlin start factories.
Sell Spice and Dyes to Rome for WM, 9gpt, 44g and three workers.
Short rush Temples using Walls in the former Persian cities.

turn 2 - 1120AD
Steal one of Persia's source of coal by founding a city on it.
Found a city on the Iron near our former cities taken by the Romans.

turn 3 - 1130AD
Shortrush more Temples and rush a settler.

turn 4 - 1140AD
Drop 2 more settlers, short rush another.
We are currently at +275cpt.
MM Forbidden Legend to slow down the Palace build and hurry science and cut 1 turn from Moscows' factory build.

turn 5 - 1150AD
RR to front is almost complete.
Founded a city.
Start irrigating the far North West.

turn 6 - 1160AD
Persia knows the Corp.

turn 7 - 1170AD
We kill an Enlish longbow, they wan to talk now, and give us Richmond. They know Rep Parts now, as does Rome. Maybe we need to sign Rome and Japan against England to keep them busy. Rome will do it for free, Japan requires Wines. I like the idea personally but I'll stop for discussion. What d'y'all think?

The graph states Rome is stronger than England, but I think that's mostly because it has more cities. Current map:

My suggestion was to sign Rome and Japan against England, since we are at war with England already. Maybe we even can claim some of England's cities near us. Japan is on an island so they are relatively safe from the other two. They *do* have two cities bordering England though, so they might get hurt a bit. If we sign Rome against Japan, I'm afraid Rome doesn't get hurt enough.

Aren't the Romans our natural next target? If so, we shouldn't tie our hands by forming an alliance with them, unless we're so weak that we're certain we wouldn't want to start that war for another twenty turns. Perhaps we should just settle for getting the Japanese and the English to fight each other.

I don't really mind who the next targets are, although Rome does make sense (I haven't studied the save - could you post it please, Space?)

I am just concerned that we need to cut-off Japan well-before they get to 50,000. At the current rate, that's less than 100 turns away. With only twenty cities, we can probably cut it fairly easily.

I hadn't realized our army was so weak. We might as well form an anti-English alliance with the Romans, since we won't be in any position to fight them for at least twenty turns. In truth, we should face the fact that we're in pure building mode, and change the cities we have about to complete cav units to factory builds.

Space, were you planning to play another three turns, or should I just take the save and begin?

Whatever suits you best. I can't play until tomorrow night, but I thought I'd wait until there were some more comments anyway.

I agree that we are now too weak to start anything against the Romans but I'm sure we'll be in fine shape in 20 turns.
