General Chess Talk

Play well!

Today on Chess Talk: I interview Narz, explore the Petrov defense, share a bit of news, and preview next week's podcast.

Note to all: Added a link to Chess Talk, so you can all bookmark it now. ;)

I listened and enjoyed the interview; I miss all my chess friends from the old days. Just listening to the interview reminds me of my and my friends' interest in the Royal Game.

There is a time limit on how long the OP can change the thread title. I went ahead and updated it. :)
Thanks Dave!

I think my first interview was a bit more concise (that was actually our 2nd go-round since the first interview didn't record properly.

Glad someone enjoyed it though. :)

col,

Check your PMs for a message from me. I want to interview you for episode 4. Narz suggested it. ;)

TIA!

The 5th episode of Chess Talk is now available to listen to.

@DaveShack and JonathanStrange: Would either of you be interested in being interviewed for next week's episode of Chess Talk?

I'm looking to see how much it will cost to host the next JP Chess Tournament off-line. I think I have two options, and I'm looking at both of them right now. It will be an open event, as a closed one is not a good idea (look at this year's tourney for a good example why).

Well I'm glad you started that touney WE, I am enjoying all my games in it (including the losses against Colin).

Congrats Sash!

I played in a simil vs. GM-elect Alex Lenderman. I lost of course as did his other 19 opponents (I was third to last to remain alive! :)).

Today (from 10AM to around 6PM) I played in a four round Swiss G-60 tournament. I went a dissapointing 2-2, with my two losses coming to a 1960something player and a 11-year old Expert (around 2040 or so, IIRC).

I will post the games when I get more time, if I don't please bug me about it! I also took a YouTube of GM Alex analyzing our game together with me. :)

It wasn't much of a game so don't get your hopes up too much. He stops at around move 19 or 20 because by then the game was (positionally anyway) basically over. I fought on for 20-25 more moves but it was more to learn his technique for converting a positional win into an actual one than out of thinking I could win (or even draw) myself.

Definitely could be instructive though, I'll probably be able to put it up Monday night.

If anyone's willing to play me over the internet that has Ubuntu and the Chess game for it, I'll be willing to play them a match or two.

Had a rough night at the quads (which got turned into two 5-man Swisses due to low turnout). Had my first opponent (a 1984) totally beat but ran out of time, my second opponent I also had beaten but blundered twice in a row & dropped that as well. The third round I got a bye.

In other news I'll be playing in the Philadelphia Congress chess tournament in the U-1800 division for a chance at a $2,000 top prize (2000-1000-500-300-200-100 or something like that).

I'm also having the awesome opportunity to play against International Master Bryan Smith next Monday. Details Here :)
