[RD] George Floyd and protesting while black

I've got an old smartphone so I can take the battery out when I don't want to be spied on.
But all the new-finagled ones with permanent batteries just keep on spying non-stop.

Domestic Terrorists!

That means the government can freeze their assets at the drop of a hat without any due process.
Then they can take them to court, and since they have no money for a lawyer, permanently take everything they own after a few months.
They are not allowed a free public servant to defend them either.

Domestic terrorism is the fastest path to poverty.
https://www.aclu.org/other/how-usa-patriot-act-redefines-domestic-terrorism
Patriot Act needs to die in a fire already. Jesus those statutes are so vague, the wholes so big. WTH.

I listed a few other cases earlier in the thread. Apparently, there was another incident in which a Vice reporter was beaten up by several cops and getting sprayed in the face while shouting s/he was press.

The section about violence against journalists (by police) in the Wikipedia article about the protests is getting pretty extensive: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/George_Floyd_protests#Violence_against_journalists
There's already been too many cases in which cops clearly deliberately targeted clearly identifiable journalists to assume others may have been a mistake. And they don't even give a damn they're being seen to do so. This is really disconcerting.

[edit] See post above.

Reddit has an obligatory post of incidents with the cops:

I, like you, don’t have particularly left wing views (especially compared to CFC at large) but people have explained this to you pretty clearly.

Peaceful protests have already been tried for this problem, time and time again, year after year, with absolutely nothing to show for it.

They’ve already everything else, and plenty of times, at that.

“Insanity is doing the same thing multiple times and expecting different results”.

The only way the police will act accordingly is if they fear the consequences if they don’t. There haven’t been consequences, and they have made it abundantly clear that they’re not going to change unless there are.

And the law does everything they can to protect their own. The consequences aren’t coming from the legal system itself.

You say that, but the guy has already been charged with murder hasn't he? Is that not a consequence coming from the legal system? What would you prefer?

Only the one guy, and that took time. As all as they were all acting together with the same aim, and noone did anything to prevent an obvious crime in progress that makes them all liable doesn't it? That is why you frequently do not need to prove who within a group pulled the trigger.

There's 3 others who watched Floyd die and did nothing, worse participated. They've not been charged.

Then there's something like 30 others - just counting the high profile ones - who were killed just like George Floyd and their killers are out of jail, most never even charged.

Then there's something like 300 cops who have brutalized completely innocent, compliant, nonviolent protesters.

Read the news: in Minneapolis, a truck driver nearly rammed a crowd of protesters. The driver is my compatriot. Punisher. Thanks to the United States, we have a civil war in our country, where such heroes kill civilians who did not want to live under the fascist dictatorship. Now one such creature has come to the Americans.

EZaDsoRU0AIlAMW

In Ukraine, he would have been released from prison and burned down at the police station. The hero of the ATO is an inviolable being. And in the US, he went to prison. Why such double standards? According to official propaganda, he allegedly fought against the evil, terrible Putin.

As an extension, I can give you a link to the Ukrainian news site Censor.net . You can use Google translation to read the opinion of Ukrainian racists about the events in Minneapolis. Created with the support of the United States, the server is located in San Francisco.
If you are too lazy to translate, here are the main theses:
- the protesters are to blame.
- The driver is a hero, he must be released. There should be protesters in jail.
- hints on the fact that blacks are not people and other racism. (I will not write more details,)
- They regret that the driver didn't kill anyone.

Dear Americans, these monsters are raised by your government for your taxes! And this is what the US government is promoting wherever it can reach.

I hear DC has gona black. No Internet, and protesters have skirmished with cops and SS to make it onto the WH lawn.

Does anyone have solid info on this?

I also found a very interesting twitter thread. Recommended reading.

There was a video of a group of police walking down the street of a neighborhood in riot gear after curfew. People were watching from their own front porches because the governor said they were allowed to be out on their own property after curfew, they just had to stay off the streets. A family was recording as the police shouted 'light em up' and opened fire on them with mace paintball rounds while they stood on their own porch.

I think we should take stock of what violence is being perpetrated by the police before we heap condemnation on rioters. Clearly the looting is wrong but it's not like this isn't being provoked by the people that are supposed to protect us.

People who have done nothing wrong have nothing to fear.

Nothing but the police.

This kind of stuff is what makes me increasingly concerned about DC.

I'm no expert, but I'm pretty sure this isn't the first police officer in history to face consequences.

But fair enough, I'm sure loads more needs to be done, but making a concrete statement along the lines of "they never, ever face any consequences for their actions", right after one of them faced consequences for the very action that everyone is talking about, seems like something worth quibbling with to me. If the discourse never allows you to acknowledge or remember when there are consequences, it's very easy for everyone to assert that there are "never" any consequences the next time it happens (and there are consequences). Kind of like how your "one guy" statement shows you're not remembering any other times in the past, because you're encouraged to immediately forget about them.

Only the one guy was a reference to the 3 other cops who stood by and watched.
But yes, you are right. Catch a police officer on camera doing something blatantly wrong and he will face some consequences. It took the protests for him to face serious consequences though.

2,800 complaints, 12 punishments, the harshest being 40 hour suspension. It is 100% safe to say if the riots werent happening, there would have been absolutely no consequences for an officer who had already had 17 incidents on his record and had been reprimanded only once.

I think I just heard someone on the radio say that 6% of the Minneapolis police force live in Minneapolis. Not sixty. Six.

I also found this article, from 6 years ago, while Googling for anything about the demographic makeup of the Minneapolis PD.

[Minneapolis] Star Tribune - "Minneapolis police struggle to hire diverse force" - August 19, 2014

Star Tribune said:
Of the 807 officers and cadets in field training currently on the force, 78.9 percent are white, 9.2 percent are black, 5.2 percent are Asian, 4.1 percent are Hispanic and 2.5 percent are American Indian. Women made up 15 percent of the police force in 2013, down from 16.4 percent in 2003.

See! All the government has to do is pull the plug. Then in the darkness they can make people disappear.

This kind of stuff is what makes me increasingly concerned about DC.

Dude that's some creepy sh*t. And proof no doubt that the government is creating robot accounts to create a propaganda counternarrative. Reminds my of a movie where the U.S. is secretly run by evil robots, but the robots create deep fakes and false media stories to fool the populace into believing the are ruled by real flesh and blood politicians and even go so far as to fake entire campaign rallies and political events.

It is not safe to say that. The wheels were already starting to turn to prosecute at least one of the officers. I don't know why he wasn't arrested immediately on suspicion of murder, but the riots didn't seem to speed up that process either; the video was shocking enough it carried the weight by itself.

Please tell me it was an arrow.

Ha, no. It was just four years of running, jumping, and all other sorts of crazy stuff while wearing half my body weight in additional gear because I wanted to be high-speed and go the tactical intelligence route. That meant I got sent to a line unit instead of an actual intelligence unit. Because of that, I spent just as much time being a door kicker as I did being an intelligence collector.

Michael Brown. Trayvon Martin. Countless others, and all those murderers walked away scott free. It is too soon to say that Derek Chauvin has yet faced any real consequences.
