Also, I think you should include world events (i.e. world wars) where ships can be conscripted etc. Also, allow us to branch into ship building etc. And war-fighting.

The Tech tree has been eliminated.

Instead I will implement a Patent system instead where companies can buy patent rights and use it exclusively for 5 years before other companies can use them.

There will be Patent Auctions and the company who wins the auction gets the tech to themselves for the next 5 years before other companies finally have access to the plans.

Yes, I plan to include world events.

You build your own ships when you buy them. Unless another company sells their ships.

I am afraid I dont understand you last question.

But I will also add this while I am on the subject, some shipping companies may get contacted by a drug cartel to transport drugs to a nation, if you accept you get a lot of money depending on how many drugs you smuggle in, but the risks are high, if caught your ship could be confiscated and a big fine imposed on the company, and your captain arrested and thrown into jail.

I'll lurk interestedly. This looks like it has the potential to be a fun game. :)

what would be reasonable prices?

Entirely up to you.

Your crew expect to be paid well for their job, so you basic liner employs 2,000 employees, sailors, chefs, waiters, etc.... so 200 each employee could make it 400,000 each trip. (if I did the math right.)

Ok, 400 for captain, 250 for engineer, and 200 for crew

Can I make up names for my own Captains/Engineers?

What year is the first update?

I have a list of Captains and Engineers that you can hire from. The list is still under work and should be finished tomorrow. You hire them and if two companies want the same captain the captain will go to the one who offer higher pay and better crew.

When hiring one please include the name of the captain and engineer you are hiring. Thank you.

The first update will be the year 1900-1901.

A propagandist, you need to choose a name for you ship.

All companies need to hire a captain before their ships can leave port. An engineer is not important but they could save you money on repairs in the long run.

germanicus, could you get on MSN?

You start with a Basic Trawler, Bestshot got Adequate becuase of his help to me in researching this for me.

And you can hire a captain, or becuase you are a fishing company your head of company can be the captain.

Oh, I thought it meant that he was getting an extra ship. :p

I'll hire a captain and figure out expenses later.

Lusitania had approximately 900 crew onboard the ship and it was the one of the largest cruiseliner during 1900's. I don't think a small starting company would need 1,100 workers to do paperwork and load things when it has 1 basic ship (which germanicus implied that it's worse than "adequate").
