I have yet to see :pat: used in a non-condescending manner.

Is there any genuine use for it other than to piss off the person who it's directed towards?

I can see some useful purposes for it, but that is to me. I, I have never used the smiley though.

It's useful in NotW, for poking fun at dwarves. But that's condescending, I suppose.

But if we aren't going to remove  for being condescending, then I don't see why we should remove :pat:.

You don't know what a truely condescending attitude is, boy.

Does there need to be? It was the reason I wanted it in the first place.

I was told that the pat smilie is useful in the Civ4 forums, for vassals. :)

Better yet, get rid of all emotions.

They are childish.

Sometimes a post can have completely different meanings just with the inclusion of a smiley.

Keep it. It's useful to some forums.

There are far, far more insulting smilies than :pat: .

Yes. the emoticon is used by very elderly members of the forums (like, say, Padma), towards anyone who is signifantly younger, by at least three decades (which would be all the other 19,999 forum users)

I love it, dont get rid of it!

Now, now. I'm not the oldest poster here. Heck, I'm not even the oldest Mod. ;)

So there are at least a few other posters I wouldn't use :pat: with.

:D
Well now, considering how the forum's population is well over 100,000, and the value noncon suggested was a mere 19,000... There exist more than "a few" other posters.

:mischief:
