Get the Rev. B patch (Vanilla)! And Warlords 2.08 patch!

Reinstall Civ4 and then apply patch A. I believe patch A is still available if you didn't keep it. Try a search at 3D Downloads. If you can't track it down, drop me a PM.

There have been three release states of Civ4:

1. The original DVD version.

2. The Rev A. patch released in July last year.

3. The Rev B. patch that has just been released.

I assume you have Civ4 on a DVD. That will either be the unpatched original release, or, if you bought it recently, it may possibly include the Rev A Patch. You can tell by mounting the DVD, selecting the Civ4 application icon, and selecting Get Info in the Finder's File menu. Its version information will include 'Rev A' if it has already been updated.

If you already have Rev A on your DVD then you only need to re-install that. If it doesn't say it's Rev A then you should update it using the Rev A patch.

Thanks Alan. I indeed have a DVD, purchased a in December.

It just says Version 1.61 (v9565) under info.

So I'll be installing the RevA soon. Thanks again!

I'm pretty sure that v9565 is the Rev. A patch. Isn't it?

Well, I went ahead and did the RevB install, and I can't even load the game now. Others have posted about the same issues with the same MacBook I have, so I won't go into details. Needless to say, I'll be reinstalling from the DVD now.

If anyone is running OK on a MacBook, you'll likely have problems if you install the RevB patch.

Once is patch is installed, is there a way to uninstall it? I'm running vanillaCIV patched to 1.61, and I'm not sure I want to do the Rev. B.

Sounds like you were right in the first place. Hence all the discussion about Rev A.

:D

Yeah, it was not a little annoying to install cIV all over again.. along with the HOF mod... (thanks again, Alan :))

One thing that's different now, and I don't know if anyone has any advice about this:
Originally, after the first time I installed the game when I bought it, I would get a pop-up that warned that "Your movies are not installed correctly". I didn't really care, as I'm more interested in the effects of the Spiral Minaret than the graphic. It also skipped the intro movies, which was really nice, as I didn't need to click 5 times before reaching the Main Menu.

But after I reinstalled, I no longer get the warning - but I DO have to suffer through and click through those stupid flash screens of the companies that had something to do with the cIV release.

Is there any way to disable those? It used to be so smooth - I'd click on the cIV icon in the dock, and the first screen that would come up was the Main Menu! I'd love to get back to that level of user-friendliness.

Open ~/Documents/Civilization IV/CivilzationIV.ini in TextEdit.

Change it so that the following entry reads:

; Set to 1 for no intro movie
NoIntroMovie = 1

Save the file and relaunch Civ4. No intro movies.

I'd *love* to update Civ IV Vanilla and Warlords to their latest versions. Unfortunately, I'm *still* waiting for a patch to fix the patch. Heh. I guess it's a good thing the Civ series of games occupies a smaller niche in my life now than it did prior to Civ IV coming out for the Macintosh.

Oh, Civ II, how I miss you (sometimes).

I am not at all happy with the Warlords patch.
No sound effects. Black units and improvements, particularly after a bit of worldbuilding. Several bugs were fixed OK (crashes on loading, resources and railroads) but it´s almost become a bore seeing silent battles between black units. Not a thing I like to admit having played Civ on the Amiga and ever since.

I installed the Rev B patch on my vanilla copy of Civ4 on my Powerbook G4 1.33GHz. There were some bugs with the map, like sections appearing greenish when viewd from a certain point, and polygons projecting from cities into the camera. The sound was gone too. But I think I noticed a modest performance boost, does anyone else report the same on that?

Hi all,

I'm a very long time civ mac user (from the 1st version), and Civ4 for mac is great too.... BUT

- release version civ4 was totally buggy (as we can all read here), did they only test it on 1 machine or what??

- then they start (late!) patching, but it's really annoying how these patches fix 1 thing, and damage another. Civ4 plays rather well now, but then I cldnt resist to get the Warlords exp. Aargh. Again no working version from the box.

Tried the Warlords patch: no battle sounds, without the patch sounds are OK, but the rendering goes wrong: black ice and farms and so on. Bah. I'm just registering to let Aspyr know that this really sux.

Im using powerpc G5, dual 2.5,Tiger, so that can't be it, can it...

bye all, sorry to bother u all with my frustrations...
play on...
