Barton later released a statement, saying, "The ongoing investigation does not lead us to believe that the fire is in any way related to Roy Moore or allegations made against him.

According to Johnson and neighbor Kevin Tallant, other neighbors witnessed a young man who had a history of public intoxication walking around the house before and during the blaze.

"He's been trouble in the neighborhood for a while," said Tallant, who lives across the street from Johnson and her family.

She said a woman neighbor told her that the young man in question approached her as she was getting in her car that morning and asked if she thought Johnson's house was going to burn. The neighbor didn't know what he was talking about, she said, because flames weren't visible at the time.

Does your investigation lead you to believe this was arson? If it was and the arsonist was getting payback for Roy, what does this mean for Roy's denial? Assuming he is guilty, his refusal to confess and calling his victims liars makes him indirectly complicit, right? Maybe complicity requires more involvement, but if I was calling my accusers liars and they were victimized as a result, I'd consider myself a factor. Kinda like falsely shouting fire in a crowded theater.

I get death threats and ill wishes from alt-right believers pretty much every day. Does it come as any surprise that they might burn someone's house? Not to me.

If the kid is guilty and not just in the wrong place and at the wrong time. Sadly there are many incidents of folks who commit acts against themselves and blame others and do this to get sympathy. That has happened with homosexuals, with alleged acts of rape, with antisemitism, with alleged bigotry, and on and on.

Why blame God when you don't believe God exists? Isn't that just a little asinine?

I'm not an atheist...and the guy walked up to a neighbor and asked her if Johnson's house was burning yet. That doesn't sound he was in the wrong place at the wrong time.

I doubt that the entire town of Gadsen are liers
How many people need to come out and testify about Moore ? How many police officers ? Before people will believe this ?

This is the deep South, I expect the culture straight out from to Kill a mocking bird still exist to this day. Otherwise Moore would be a registered sex offender and already been jailed.

"These stories have been going around this town for 30 years," said Blake Usry, who grew up in the area and lives in Gadsden. "Nobody could believe they hadn't come out yet."

Usry, a traveling nurse, said he knew some girls that Moore tried to flirt with.
"It's not a big secret in this town about Roy Moore," he said. "That's why it's sort of frustrating to watch"
He recalled being told by a mall employee that they kept watch for an older guy who was known to pick up younger girls.

Legat, now 59, said an off-duty Gadsden police officer named J.D. Thomas told him about various people he should look out for when he was working. This was around 1981, and Thomas worked security at the mall.
One of the people was a pickpocket, he said, while another was someone prone to pick fights.
One was Roy Moore.
"I asked him, 'What did he do?'" Legat recalled. "He said, 'If you see him, let me know. I'll take care of it.'"

"Him liking and dating young girls was never a secret in Gadsden when we were all in high school," said Sheryl Porter. "In our neighborhoods up by Noccalula Falls we heard it all the time. Even people at the courthouse know it was a well-known secret.

She later told CNN that Moore often went to local high school events and other hangouts: "It was common knowledge that Roy dated high school girls,
He said that growing up in Gadsden, he'd heard rumors about Moore
