Got the game

I bought it on Steam, and there doesn't seem to be a manual. My musketmen and cannons seem to fire whenever they feel like it, not at any specific interval; this makes land battles impossible for me. Is this how it's supposed to be?

There is a fire at will button in the bottom right which defaults to on. Press is and the selected unit(s) will hold their fire until you press it again/manually tell them to attack a unit.

The special forces units models and stuff is included in the files for the standard edition and will probably be unlocked soon.

Ghurkas seem to be bugged. You are meant to be able to recruit them when you take Kashmir, but I've taken Kashmir and there are no Ghurkas to be found.

Has anyone gotten the problem where during cinematics the games flashes practically?

Yep.

When playing this game feel more like a tester than a player. So many bugs. Patch next week apparently though.

Me too, I just end up skipping the cutscenes. Thought it might just be my crappy computer, though it's good to hear (also bad) that other people are having that problem too.

Sieges seem to be a bit buggy too. As Prussia, was besieging Hannover and was attacked by the besieged (didn't want to have to deal with the fortifications, and didn't drag along anything more than horse-artillery); wiped out the besieged dudes and won a total victory. Pursued enemy after victory (clicked the wrong button :() and eliminated all but ~20 enemies; to my surprise I found that I had been 'forced to break off the siege' and the enemy remained in control of the city, and even got their Armed Citizenry units back with full strength.

A patch is being released a week after the game? :dubious:

Obviously they knew the product was buggy but forced to ship it to market anyway.

Describe the Problem:

PC Games newly released to market are not working “out of the box”. (Empire: Total War, Crown of Glory: Emperor’s Edition)

Containment:

Software developers and software publishers unwilling to shield the public with shoddy software. Public often used as “paying beta testers”.

Root Cause:

(Root cause for occurrence)

Unknown. Insufficient data available to accurately assess. Suggest a team be formed to investigate this rampant trend with game makers.

(Root cause for escape)

1. How does buggy software “go gold” and ship to market?
2. What testing, if any, is done on game software just prior to release?
3. Are there any automated analytical software packages used in detecting bugs with game software?

Choose Corrective Action:

What actions can be taken to prevent substandard game software from making it to market?

I can't watch ANY of the videos :/

I can't watch ANY of the videos :/

haha same here. Is it because they just dont play or does it like flash every second?

So this game is buggy? Well good thing I didn't buy it on release (I've promised myself I wouldn't buy games on release since even the most promising games can turn out if not overhyped or bad, then a least buggy). Actually I'm not very hyped up about this, I think I might just do what prince scamp suggested and wait for the gold version.

For those of you who already have the game: I've been hearing that factions lack unique units. Apparently Britain has 6+ UU:s (British devs), but the rest have a few at best. Is that true, or are (the rest) UU:s unlocked later in the game?

flash every second.

Nope!

There is no space in my name.

And yes the other factions are mostly different coloured clones of each other. There is a high degree of sameness amongst European armies at this time of course, and soldiers in one knid of unit would wear the same uniforms as each other, but there seems to be little difference between the non-english european factions (Ottomans and the india faction are much more unique).

Waiting for the gold version will likely be the best option, the game will be patchd up by then with mods coming out to fix things.

I must admit it never occurred to me to just wait for the gold edition to come out. I think that will be my policy from now one wrt to mainstream PC games.

Not only do you get all the bells and whistles mentioned in this thread you get it for a much more reasonable price.

If everyone would just follow that strategy, games makers who really should not be in the business will die, while those makers that have the cash to survive may just learn to finally release a non buggy game on day one.

And all we would have would be consoles game. What would you like more a 100% finished game or a 90%-95% finished game with more stuff included because developers knew if there were bugs they had time to fix them after the game release?

So I finished the Prussian Short Campaign, and I got the impression so far that the AI in E:TW hasn't gotten any better at figuring out how to sign peace with itself. In the game, as of 1750, the Great Northern War and the War of Spanish Succession still aren't over, and neither are the Russo-Turkish or Maratha-Mughal conflicts. I'm starting to think that the relatively more difficult time one has in conquering the metropolies of the various states has actually impeded AI faction growth, such that they never keep up with the human. This might, however, be because I took over most of the easily conquered territories in central and eastern Europe.

Anybody having similar experiences?

Nope!

Did you find minor powers less likely to sign peace? I had to destroy Courland they kept fighting even after Poland and Russia backed out. It took me a long time to realise Denmark was at war with me, they also wouldn't accept peace.
Couldn't tell you, to be honest. I haven't concluded a war with a minor power that didn't end with annexation yet, since all of them (except Württemberg, which captured Alsace-Lorraine early in the game for whatever reason) were OPMs or major powers. I'm currently at war with Denmark over the Copenhagen region, which I had to grab to win the short campaign, and I haven't cared enough to invade Norway or Iceland or sign a peace treaty.

Has Courland been really powerful in your game? In mine, they grabbed both Riga and St. Petersburg before the Russians could get them...

I like how each faction has its own 'personality'. Poland was almost always ready to sign for peace whenever the war didn't go their way, but Russia just wouldn't give up after I took eastern Scandinavia and Archangel.

Though that's a bit annoying, since I don't have the army necessary to take and hold Moscow, which means I essentially have to just deal with whatever puny armies Russia sends to ravage my lands.
