Goz-12 - 5CC - Large map - Space Race

Buildings are my only concern. If we mobilize after we take out their bombers it's less of a concern but with mobile arty maybe I'm overreacting.

Yep we could. Again this is my purist ways but finishing with flair would be nice but I'm flexible. Maybe mobilizing to finish off the Aztecs and our 7 turns of MA vs. the Babs would be enough? I think we have enough tanks and arty to handle the German incursions but we could use more bombers.

Apologies, Whomp. I had no idea that it would offend your 'purist' ways; no worries, I'll work around them. ;)

Nah, no worries Buce....
I'm just saying that this has been a classic and finishing with flair would be a nice touch. :)

You could mobilize before DOW. Starting a war will end mobilization won't it? Also making peace with Aztecs could end the mobilization. So we could mobilize in short bursts. Once the initial surge is over with Germany mobilizing won't be needed IMO.

I would mobilize right away because we've got the Babs for seven more turns and the Aztecs till they are finished.

The German war will likely be a long one and it might be nice to have the flexibility to change builds if we have to because a market or cathedral is blown to bits.

I also think maybe we could leave the Aztec remnants to the Germans. Then the Aztecs could help us with Germany for as long as they last.

I agree we may take some hits and need to rebuild, but it won't have to be right away. We can cross those bridges (figure out how to get out of mobilization) when we come to them.

Mr. Bucephalus, have you made up your flight plan yet?

I'm on turn 4. On the IBT 2 Panzers began a short-cut through our territory; then this happened:

Spoiler :
Steal_SF.JPG

I wonder what will happen on turn 5? :mischief:

Nice, nice. Should we finish the parts first, upgrade all our tanks and then declare or do you think the opportunity will be lost?

Nice, nice. Should we finish the parts first, upgrade all our tanks and then declare or do you think the opportunity will be lost?

No, it's perfectly set; I've already upgraded 30 Tanks, we've got a leader waiting to form an Army, and I've pillaged the roads around their Oil colony, so they have just one source at Richborough which I can take on the first attack. We can spare a couple of cities for SS Parts for a few turns.

I investigated Berlin, and it is building MA; if we don't strike now we'll lose the advantage, IMO.

You go boy!

Apologies guys, my home internet connection has been down all day. I've finished the set but I'll have to post the log tomorrow.

The short version is that it has been very hard going; Bismark suddenly had more MA's than you could shake a stick at. Holding on to our colonies was impossible; Bismark seemed prepared to take any number of casualties, so happiness was quickly an issue, currently 50% on the slider
I held on to the Aluminium and Uranium but lost/regained Oil several times.

There is good news, though.

I've finally started to bring down the numbers of MA; Bismark regained Oil, and at one stage had over 80 MA, but currently he is without Oil and down to 28 MA.

I have also destroyed several cities, including Brighton (Uranium) and Brandenburg, a core Metropolois; their only other source of Uranium is within the compass of the next city.

We have completed two more SS Parts, the 640 shield one rushed with a MGL.

What is now required is a little bit of Zerksees magic. :)

:satan: It sounds like it will be easier on you than Buce. Way to whittle them down Buce.

Pre-turn:

Begin preparations for war with Germany; we have 7 turns of a treaty left to honour.
Switch builds to Civil Defence in all except BB, just in case it gets ugly; I can't protect Rojo with forest as planned because of one desert tile. If we get to start this war, then New Hamburg has to go quickly.
Mobilize;
Remember what Zerksees said about gifting Celts in to the MA; seems like they have all the right resources for Tanks, Mech Infantry, and TOW.
I think it's a good idea to go as far as Motorized transport at least; Sell Brennus Mass Production for 310g + WM & gift MT; I decide that TOW's will probably do more harm to Panzers than Tanks will, so gift Rocketry too.

IBT:

Baylon offer 1300g for Peace;
Hiawatha offers MPP for 29gpt.

1705 AD:

Seoul > CD > Tank
Pyong > CD > Tank
Rojo > CD > Tank
Nampo > CD > Artillery
BB > Tank > Tank

IBT:

Nada.

1710 AD:

Seoul > Tank > Tank
Pyong > Tank > Tank
Rojo > Tank > Tank
Nampo > Arty > Arty
BB > Tank > Tank
Use Army to pillage RR around German Oil Colony
Investigate Berlin; they have just one source now, at Richborough.

IBT:

Nada.

1715 AD:

Seoul > Tank > Tank
Pyong > Tank > Tank
Rojo > Tank > Tank
Nampo > Arty > Arty
BB > Tank > Tank
Germany has Synthetic Fibres
Just a few more one turn Tanks....

IBT:

Oh looky here, we have a couple of trespassers; can this get any better?

1720 AD:

Safely steal SF

Seoul > Tank > SS Exterior Casing
Pyong > Tank > MA
Rojo > Tank > MA
Nampo > Arty > SS Storage/Supply
BB > Tank > Arty (so I've got somewhee to utilize the shields from the disbanded Army)
Can only request that Bismark leaves our territory; Upgrade 30 Tanks to MA in readiness for war next turn.
Investigate Liepzig Manhattan Project in 8

IBT:

Azecs plant city next to our Silk colony; we lose our Silks; Germans lose Rubber to the same.
Celts plant city right accross the Railnet to Richborough; I'm going to need a ROP.

1725 AD:

Somehow Bismark now has 38 MA and just 5 Panzers; if they've been upgraded, he got a good deal - his cash reserves went up.
Conduct Investigation in to target cities; all poorly defended except for Brighton.
What is startling is how close they all are to completing MA builds - they only have 4-5 shields in each city, and they only got SF last turn. Even after losing their Oil, we will be seeing a lot of MA before we're done.

OK, deep breath - "Excuse me, Bismark, but would you mind moving your Panzers off my lawn?"

Bismark_Declares_War.JPG

Give Brennus Computers and Amphibious Warfare for ROP & Alliance v Germany.

Arty and Bomb New Hamburg, really bad RNG; eventually go in with MA (2-0)
Destroy Richborough (4-0) Bismark now has no Oil
Destroy New Frankfurt (6-0)
Mop-up tresspassing Panzers (8-0)
Use Bombers to pillage tiles outside borders - Rojo cannot be reached in 3 moves now.
I've purposely not committed any more forces this turn; I've evacuated Seoul, and hope to suck in their MA.

IBT:

1730 AD:

The Germans completely ignore us, and instead send a large stack of MA past our Rubber Colony to attack Celts.

Pyong > MA >MA
Rojo > MA > MA
BB >MA > MA
Nampo > SS Storage/Supply > MA

OK, lets see if I can get their attention; Destroy New Heidlburg (12-0) I've never experienced such bad RNG with Arty before, 1 hit in 5 on average.
Bombers are no better; libraries, temples, citizens - no problem; Units? Forget it. Brighton escapes unscathed, move MA in to position for next turn assault.
Disband Tank Army, make MA Army.

IBT:

Ouch, a really bad inter-turn; we had nearly all of our colonies overrun;(32-7) it cost them plenty of casualties but it looks like they can afford them at the minute. Running 40% lux just to keep happy.
16 MA enter our territory
We lost Oil, so I'm going to have to try and get one back.

1735 AD:

Re-establish Oil Colony; put 5 MI on this one, I just hope it's enough. I can't possibly defend any lux Colonies, so we'll just have to grin and bear it for now.
Destroy Brighton (36-8) depriving them of one source of Uranium.
Mop up tresspassers (46-8)
Damn, they have more MA than when we started. Fewer cities though :)
Investigate Brandenburg - Germany have Oil again.
Iroquois have Miniturization; attempt a steal..

Steal_Miniturization.JPG

IBT:

Oil Colony comes under heavy pressure, one MA lost but 10 German MA lost. (56-9)

1780 AD:

Massive WW, up slider to 50%
BB > MA > MA
Assault on Brandenburg fails, lose 2 MA. (56-11)

IBT:

Another bad IBT; we've lost our Oil Colony again. They seem to have an endless supply of MA. (56-16)
Lost 4 MA outside Brandenburg.
At least they are now down to 45 MA.

1745 AD:

Rojo, Nampo, BB, Pyong > MA > Infantry.
Move Arty and reinforcements to Brandenburg.
Create MGL; use to rush SS Part.
Sign ROP with Hiawatha
Take out German Oil Colony, costing 3 MA. (56-19)
Destroy Centralia, capturing worker for new Oil Colony. (57-19)

IBT:

Lots of MA enter Korea.
Skirmishing costs them 5 MA, us 1 MI (64-20)
Lose Furs to new Iro city

1750 AD:

Seoul > SS Exterior Casing
Destroy Brandenburg (70-20)
Re-establish Oil Colony.
Big turn for us, butcher 25 MA on home turf. (95-20)
Bismark down to 28 MA.

Manhattan due in 2 Time for one last act:

Manhattan_Sabotage.JPG

End Notes:

A thoroughly tough and frustrating set; losing the colonies hurt us, but I don't know how I could have done it any differently, we just didn't have enough units to spare - they took our Oil colony, and that was defended by 6 MI + Arty. Facing MA instead of Panzers made a big difference, and Bismark didn't seem to mind casualties. And I'm gob-smacked at how quickly the AI can produce units at Deity.
However, we did get closer to Space, which is our sole objective, and I've definitely hurt them, so I don't suppose it was a bad set as such.
