Goz-9 Auto-workers reloaded

I looked at the save and since two of the known civs already knows Writing, we better trade or we won't get anything. China will give the Wheel for it and we can get IW and CB plus some gold for Writing/Wheel from Arabs.

If we don't get Philo, it's no major drama. But at least the extra gold will let us do the research.

I also propose we change to barracks in that second town, walls won't do us any good IF the AI decide to give us a go.

Preflight, 1750 BC (50):
We have 3 cities, 1 settler, 2 workers, and 3 warriors. Looks rather toasty ...
Russia has 6 cities, up wheel, burial, iron working, math.
India has 7 cities, up the same techs.
Arabs has 8 cities, up burial, IW, math, down writing.
China has 6 cities, up wheel, burial, IW, math, down writing.
Gift China all our 6 gold, then writing = wheel + 6 gold.
Only Russia knows riding, but we are too poor to buy it.
To Arabs, our wheel + writing can get either CB + IW + 31 gold, or math + 40 gold, I select the former. Everybody knows mysticism.
We have a horse right on a hill near capital, where Pedro just walked through but didn't make a road.
Philosophy is due in 17 turns with -1 gpt, let's give it a try.
IT: Russia is building ToA.

1725 BC (51):
Found Tikal near diamond, but who knows when it can be connected ...
Pedro finishes mining and goes to a grassland.
IT: Palenque walls -> worker. Walls is not too bad, since it doesn't cost upkeep.

1700 BC (52):
Warrior sees green border. Pedro enters capital ... :smoke:
IT: China boots us, no problem.

1675 BC (53):
China knows riding too. We can buy it, but let's first meet the green people.
Pedro goes to our horse.
The 2nd worker is chopping a forest. Change Copa to palace and Chichen Itz to pyramids.
IT: Tikal gets 10 shields. Arabs starts ToA, so does India.

1650 BC (54):
Aztecs is very advanced, up mysticism, math, map making, and riding. No wonder, because they have 13 cities! They feel insulted to sell MM.
Both 2 workers start roading.
IT: Chichen Itz settler -> settler.

1625 BC (55):
Settler goes to grab 2 whales. Science to 100% and hire a scientist in Palenque.
IT: Warrior booted out China. Palenque worker -> curragh. Arabs begins Colossus.

1600 BC (56):
Found Yaxchila. Worker 3 goes to a hill.

1575 BC (57):
Pedro connects horse, great work! :clap:
IT: Aztecs boots us, and begins Oracle. Tenochtitlan complets pyramids, they will run away ...

1550 BC (58):
Pedro enters a grassland near capital. Hire a scientist in Tikal.
IT: Copa worker -> worker.

1525 BC (59):
Worker 4 goes to a hill, worker 2 goes to a mountain.

1500 BC (60):
Russia knows map making too. Worker 2 goes to help worker 4.
Set free the scientist, philosophy still in 3 turns. Try best MM.

Our empire is full of cxxc spacing, as if it's AW. :D

Not bad, not bad at all. Actually having our horses hooked up is a small miracle :lol:

I've got it. What do we want for our free tech, assuming we get it? Lit? It doesn't look like CoL is known either, that usually hold some decent trade value.

Literature doesn't help much because it's too hard to build GLib with automated workers (unless we get a SGL!). Code of laws is surely good, for opening min run to republic. OTOH, how about clicking "big picture" and trading around? Is that exploitive or all right?

I have the same feeling too. :D
The hard aspect is that we don't have iron nearby. However, that just gives jav thrower a chance to show off! :crazyeye:
Is the map cont or pang? I suggest to build 2 ships to explore in 2 opposite directions, then let them suicide after knowing all about our landmass.

Yeah, I think I'll go CoL and trade around with the big picture. Nothing exploitive about it, ine my mind.

As for the map, I have no idea. It was all random.

If you go CoL, there is no need to do "big picture". What I mean is e.g. philosophy = math then picking currency as free tech.

:blush: Damn, the Math and Currency idea was great....I wish I had seen it before I played :smoke: The results aren't that horrible without it though ;)

Preturn- We look alright.

T3 1425

Philo is ours, as is CoL :clap: Go to big picture and trade CoL and 2g to Aztecs for Map Making and HBR. MM goes to China for Math and 25g. MM goes to Arabs for Myst and 19g. CoL and Philo go to Russia for Construction. CoL and Philo go to Arabs for Polytheism. We're now at tech parity and up techs on many :D

T4 1400

One of our :smoke: addicts climbs the gem mountain :clap:

T5 1375

Bonampak founded to the east of CI.

T10 1250

We actually have gems hooked up now too :D

Summary

We gained a lot of tech thanks to Philo. We have all the tech we really need for the time being, and we're plugging along on Republic. After Tikal finishes its worker, I think it should go full military, popping out a worker on occasion. If our :smoke: workers would stop obsessing over the hill and lay a few mines in the cor region, Palenque and Bonampak could probably do the same. If we can build up some horses quick enough, we should be able to smack down Gandhi before he can get to Jumbos. He's currently in a tech hole, which is good, and appears to have no resources, which is very good. The settler N of CI was going to head to the NE and found on the hill by coast. After a few more settlers CI can go full military as well.

Why do full speed research to republic? We have 14 beakers per turn, but 1st hand republic needs 1120 beakers. How about min run and saving money for embassies?

My thought was to keep the money in research instead of paying it out in demands and fr us to have some beakers built up in case we came into a situation in which we could buy it, but you do make a very valid point. I think we would be better served getting embassies up and running.

Nicely played :)

I agree on embassies, they can be vital if someone wants to take piece of us. Or if we want to dogpile Monty later.

Horses connected and we got Philo, thats pretty amazing!

Got it.

And the holy gem! I don't feel too bad at automated smokers. :D

Pre-turn - Set science to 10%, we're making 18gpt.

We have a settler with no destination, I better just close off our mini-empire, so the AI don't grab the last land.

Embassy with India for 35g.

1225bc - Arabia boot our warrior and then completes Colossus.

Tikal worker, start another. I want military, but we need a couple of extra workers.

1200bc - India want us to join them against China, no thanks.

Settler sees a fish and a spot that can get a whale with expansion, I'll go there.

1175bc - Arabs knows Monarchy.

Embassy with Russia for 63g. Moscow is pop 5 and will build ToA in 15t. Iron and incense connected.

1150bc - Bubba get kicked out of Arabia again.

1125bc - Monty boot our warrior, who ends up on "the other side" and we meet America. We are even in techs. They are competing with Aztec as the strongest civ with 14 towns.

1100bc - Just as my settler is ready to plant a town, India drops off a settler pair. They will steal some land I think.

Anyways, Lagertero founded -> worker.

Tikal got another worker built, not sure here -> start our first JW.

Whip a temple in Yaxchilan for 20 shields and raise luxes to 20% for a turn.

1075bc - CI settler -> settler. Send him NW to the fish.

Great, citizen dies from disease in Palenque from working a jungle tile for one turn.

Yaxchilan temple -> barracks.

1050bc - Yep, Ghandi stole a spot.

I'm not paying 6gpt to keep one citizen happy in Bonampak, make him a scientist and turn off research for now. I send warrior to Bonampak.

1025bc - Copan worker -> barracks.

1000bc - Quirigua founded -> worker.

Warrior arrives in Bonampak, 3 shields/t is back.

We have room for a few tight cities or should we try to build up an army?

We will need at least 10 troops, and JW's are very costly as well as horses. But we can't wait for long or we're bust.

I leave the 122g and 20 gpt for next player, another embassy with one of the big nations would be alright.

Preflight, 1000 BC (80):
We have 8 crowded cities, 122 gold, 13 units: 9 workers, 3 warriors, 1 curragh.
We know all the AA techs except currency, literature, monarchy, and of course our min run target republic, which is due in 33 turns.
Aztecs: 17 cities, monarchy, up literature and monarchy;
America: 14 cities, despotism, parity;
Arabia: 8 cities, monarchy, up literature and monarchy;
China: 7 cities, despotism, parity;
India: 10 cities, despotism, DOWN riding;
Russia: 7 cities, despotism, up literature.
Build embassy in Mecca: 9 citizens including 2 clowns, 1 horse, 2 spices, 9 spt, ToA due in 9 turns.
Embassy in Beijing: 1 (!) citizen and he is a clown (!), no resource, building a
spear.
IT: Aztecs and Arabs start GLib.

975 BC (81):
Curragh sees red border.

950 BC (82):
Babylon has 13 cities, but DOWN laws and poly.
IT: Bonampak galley -> rax.

925 BC (83):
Two smokers go to an irrigated grassland, are they going to do sth. good?
IT: Capital settler -> rax. Babylon builds MoM.

900 BC (84):
Washington has 2 irons, 2 horses, 9 citizens including 1 clown, 4 lux, 8 spt, ToA due in3 turns.

875 BC (85):
Smokers run around, nothing good.
IT: Lagartero worker -> temple. America starts GLib.

850 BC (86):
IT: Russia builds GLib. Washington finishes ToA.

825 BC (87):
Babylon knows laws.
IT: Palenque temple -> rax. America build GLib. Tenochtitlan completes GLib. Russia builds Great Wall and Lighthouse and Hanging Garden and MoM, then Moscow finishes GW, Novgorod GLH. Arabs build HG, then Mecca finishes it. Calcutta gets MoM.

800 BC (88):
Aztecs and Arabs know currency and change dress.
Found Calakmul, the last city in our tiny territory.

775 BC (89):
America knows currency and republic. Arabs gets republic too.
Tenochtitlan has 10 citizens (2 clowns), 1 horse, 2 lux including 1 gem, 12 spt.
IT: Tikal jav -> jav, Quirigu worker -> cat.
Ellipi finishes Zeus.

750 BC (90):
Continue exploring.

We need a harbor to sell gem, and several cities with NO rax to build cats. Our power looks awful, but luckily India is fighting China, so we still have some chance. The damn thing is that there are too many jungles for cats to cross! :nuke:

Preturn- I really do detest our workforce :lol:

T4 670

We clear off some jungle to reveal a BG :D

T5 650

They start irrigating it :cry:

T6 630

More BG revealed, more irrigation :mad:

T9 570

Our harbor finishes and we can trade gems. I'll leave Goz to determine what we want to do, wouldn't want to stick him with some half baked trade deal :lol:

T10 550

Our first horse is produced.

Summary

Our production sucks. We have two Javs and one horse. I think we need at least 5 horses before we try and strike. I mm'd CI to a whopping 7spt to get horses quicker. It can be set to grow on the turn before the horse is pruced though, as it will have 28 shields in the bin already. The other cities are a mess, with Tikal being the next highest producer at 4spt. Things could always be worse though, I suppose. At least we'll have lots of food once we hit Republic :rolleyes:
