GOZ3 -(Totally Barbaric)-C3C

Take out the lands that are ours first (our continent), then bother to send troops to the left and the right.

While more land is great, I think our biggest problem is to keep up in tech, because with the high corruption and despotism there isn't much to benefit from it yet. If PP could bring us into parity then no problem. If not, hitting one that can give us tech and preventing it from running away is more important IMHO.

I say this without loading the SAVE..

Got it and will try to play today. How's about triggering our GA now so that we don't fall too far behind in tech? And Beth has to be the next target apparently. Also, I don't see why we should keep Rome around. Eliminating Rome might help to lower the tech cost substantially.

Edited: RL dictates I should play tomorrow.

I didn't bother to check what our plans are regarding Palace and FP. If I had a say I want the FP in the middle someplace of our peninsula and then whack the Palace in the middle of the bigger part of the continent. If we get a leader of course. The corruption will be "tolerable" as we have to stay in despotism.

sorry, i should have mentioned that we have a RoP agreement with the Hittites.

RoP has no impact on rep as long as you stay out of their land before declaring (unless you received goods in the RoP deal).

ok, no problem. just get those knight allowing passage to former german lands outta there. however, i can't recall if we have any other deals going with them atm.

If the intention is to get Palace somewhere in English land close to our estern shore, then it might workd with FP in Utica/Nora. However, moving it too far away would not give us substantial benefit in terms of decrease in corruption. We would rather get an increase in corruption for considerable time because our more or less productive current core would suffer greatly from rank corruption. I'll try to use the current leader ASAP to move Palace to Utica and will start FP in Carthage or some other town. (??Or get another knight army?? Or something else??) We can move the Palace later on to English land in Fascism but for now in Despotism (which is a very corrupt government), it does not look beneficial.

Do we kill Romans or let them live?

I like conehead's idea about keeping a weak civ around to trigger GA with our UU once we change gov't. imho, we can hang on tech-wise during the MA. even if we fall behind, it's ok as we'll have the continent to ourselves soon enough and we'll only have to worry about half-*ssed AI landings. us our GA to catch up and all will be well :) if we all agree, then keep 1 weak city from at least England or Rome to do this.

For the FP-Palace switcharoo, do your best and we'll see how the results come out. I agree with getting some courthouses in the original core before moving the palace so we don't completely lose productivity there. LM and Carthage especially. FP in Carthage would be very nice as it's able to make 20spt while despotic. LM is building it now but hasn't been at it too long.

Preflight check: Nothing much, change some builds to courthouses in the core and to settlers in former Germany. Moving knights to English border. Looks like Hittites are scientific leaders. They are up Astronomy and Invention. IBT: Not much. Utica knight->Palace, Hippo knight->knight, Sulcis temple-> knight.

[1] 560AD. Declare war to Beth. Capture Newcastle (losing I knight). Rushed Palace in Utica. Income before Palace rush in Utica 178gpt. IBT. Utica Palace->knight.

[2] 570AD. Income drops to 159gpt. FP in Carthage due in 1 turn. Brighton captured. IBT. England attacks with 3 knights, we are losing 1 of ours. Carthage finished FP and goes to courthouse. Sabratha courthouse-knight. Hittites are building Magellan’s! We discover PP.

[3] 580AD. Income goes up to 208g. That’s much better. We capture a town from Spain. Trading Invention from Mursilis for PP, all contacts and 1200g is too expensive IMO, we are buying important tech for Monopoly prices essentially. However, we better hurry up to IA and fascism and the trade passes through our Despotic senate or whatever ruling organ we have. Mursilis also has Gunpowder. We then make peace with Spain for Invention (we give) and Astronomy+20g (they give). We then trade theology to Henry for spices + 2 workers. We then trade Chivalry to Shumeria for wines. We then trade Theology to Korea for furs+worker+8gpt+9g. We now have 6 luxuries. Research goes to Gunpowder at 60% in 15 turns (it hurts). We are still making +81gpt. Vast number of luxuries allows us to accelerate building of some courthouses a little bit.
IBT. England struggles to survive but loses 1 knight and 1 MDI.

[4] 590AD. We capture Canterbury. Thaenae founded and Hastings is down to a single defender. IBT. England counterattacks with a sword. Some wonders are being built by other civilizations.

[5] 600AD. We capture Hastings and Dover. Utica is a decent 15 spt city and it might be a good idea to build a wonder or two there. Starting on Templar for the moment. IBT. England counterattacks with a horse and kills our MDI (we lost 3 units so far). Hittites complete Sistine’s.

[6] 610AD. Rusuccuru founded. IBT. Mursilis comes and asks for some cash and other ridiculous things for incense. We refuse and trade Ivory from Inca instead for Monotheism and dyes. Sumerians complete the templar.

[7] 620AD. Advancing to London and three other cities. IBT. Beth comes and cries and ask us to stop that slaughter. She made some intimate offers to our Despot but he has many wives of his own and does not need some English b…h to satisfy his immediate needs. She then offered two cities for peace but our Despot was firmly set to get rid of that pesky neighbor. Many improvements built this turn and most builds switched to knights.

[8] 630AD. Not a good turn. Both armies redlined against pikes in London and Nottingham and most knights are also redlined.

[9] 640AD. Retreating from English territory to heal. Mursilis got Banking. IBT. Some improvements finished. Spain got Music Theory and is build Bach’s.

[10] 650AD. Did not do any diplo and did not move troops on the British front. It is up to the next player. Please take your time investigating their positions and determining future conquest goals. Settler in the middle of German lands goes to settler a city somewhere around Berlin or on the coast. In general, in recent 10 turns we went rather heavily for courthouses and very few knights were built. It might slow down our progress in war. Good luck!

SAVE

preturn: we are No.1 in score/power/territory. The only threat is Hitties who has 4 techs on us, but quite small, has a colony on iron which we can land onto easily. I think we should be able to take it out after dealing with England. but we need more boats and trebuchets. Add to my todo list.

Move wounded units out of England.

Increase sci to 80% Gunpower in 5 turns.

Switch some temples to courthouses.

IBT MDI defeats Knight, knight killed by knight. Hitties starts JS Bach's. Good, the more shield you waste on wonders the merrier. Dutch also starts it.

(1)660AD: An English spear tries to pillage our iron and approach our undefended town.

IBT Spain starts Magellon's.

(2)670AD: Kill the spear but lose a knight.

IBT the dyes deal with Nethrelands ended. Spain offers WM for WM+280g, and she wouldn't take any gpt or resources in the deal, our rep was hit. So I don't buy it.

(3)680AD: Lose one vet knight and we take Nottingham.

IBT England drops a horse close to Leipzig.

(4)690AD: Army and elite knight takes out London. Join two workers to capital. Kill the English horse.

IBT Gunpowder->Chemistry.

(5)700AD: injured sword army takes out spear and we capture Oxford.

AI got Gunpowder at the same time, so no trading possible. Hitties haven't got Chemistry yet, and I set it to due in 10 turns.

Great news: Hitties don't have saltpeter and we have it already connected! [dance]
I sell gems+dyes to Hitties for 37gpt - our rep is hit anyway, so feel free to attack it before the deal expires.

IBT I start building some libraries. We get double expansion. Spain builds Leo's.

(6)710AD: Vet knight loses to a redline knight..

IBT Portugal and Sumeria sign peace.

(7)720AD: Kill two knights in our territory and lose one.

(8)730AD: knight army and two elite knights take York.

Hitties have Chemistry. :(

(9)740AD: Reading falls.

IBT England starts JS Bach. :smoke:

(10)750AD: Take Warwick.

To next leader: We are doing pretty well. England should be destroyed pretty soon. We have Copernipus due in 5 turns. Let's complete it and also start prebuild for Smith's.

I've been building trebuchet and caravals. Hitties doon't have saltpeter (and we'll have 3 sources soon), so the war should be straightforward. Once Hitties are defeated and we get its techs, the game is pretty much in the bag.

I set research straight to Military Tradition. That's pretty much all we need.

All scouting boats are returning except one (which is still exploring unknown coast). We need those boats to get to Hitties.

Good luck!

GOZ3-750AD

nice set, both of you  looks like the FP-Palace switcheroo went flawlessly! since we seem to be doing so well even with the despot hit, we probably should have another go at this in demi-god or deity in the future ;) this team is too strong for emperor.

re: rep hit with spain -> we broke an alliance with them vs Port earlier so no hope there.

how close are we to destoying the English?

They have about 6 towns left. I expect 2 pike/spears (and probably 1 longbow) each city. We should be able to get rid of it within 5-6 turns.

EDIT: Oh I forgot to check if they have another town elsewhere on an island, if so, then we should ask the cities for concession and risk flip (we don't have enough garrison).

Our military is a little thin given our huge size. Many inner cities are empty and outer cities are guarded by one unit. We can support ~280 units and we have only about 80 (from memory). We don't have too many knights to attack, but armies are powerful.

The Save

Pre-turn - Set all former English cities on starving diet and make them all taxmen and our gpt jumps from 8 to 64.

Otherwise no changes.

Sell Construction to Rome for their 36g.

760AD - IT -Sumeria demands gems and gets the finger and we are at war with them :)

Great, Hittites completes Copernicus.
I buy Music Theory from Korea for 817g and switch Utica to Bach's.
Give Spain gems and spices for 19gpt.

We take Exeter and 2 slaves.

Change a couple of starving cities from taxmen to scientists to cut a turn on Chemistry.

770AD - We take Coventry and Leeds.

780AD - Renew furs deal with Inca, giving them Engineering and PP.

We take Liverpool. Attack a longbow with elite knight near Leeds and get a leader.
Move him to Utica which is 12 turns from Bachs, we should use him for Smiths.

790AD - We learn Chemistry.
I give that and 134g to Spain for Banking and set research to Economics.
Chemistry to Netherlands for WM!, 24 gpt and 12g.
Chemistry to Korea for Navigation, 14 gpt and WM.
Sell WM around for 150g.

Tacape founded.

Give Zulu Monarchy, Currency and WM for silks and WM.

800AD - We take Norwich and Richmond and England is history.

810AD - Declare on the romans because they annoy me, and move in troops.
We can use any civ to trigger GA anyways. 3-4 Nums in a stack will win at least one attack.

820AD - We take Hispalis and Rome is no more.

830AD - Nothing

840AD - Take peace with Sumeria for WM and 35g.

850AD - Zama founded.

Bach's due in 5 turns in Utica, where we also have a leader. If we get Bach's we can use the leader for Smiths. Economics due in 2 turns. We might also trade with Hittites when we rush Smiths, they are up Physics and Metallurgy.

We have 1281g and 49 gpt.

I tried to build more military, our army isn't as impressive as we think. We should be close to a setup against Hittites soon, so microbe doesn't go through the roof :)

Forgot that we can build Magellans if we want to, would that trigger our GA?
