Gr8 Team B The Pheonix Rising

Preturn- I go through and fire some scientists in the boonies to let those cities grow a bit. It has no effect on the research rate.

T3 880

Democracy comes in. It goes to our good friend Alex for Chem, 380g and 26gpt. It then goes to Japan for Physics, 11g and 6gpt. It then goes to China for Metallurgy, 177g and 13gpt. Nice call on going for Democracy :goodjob:
I also trade PP to Persia for 14gpt.

I set us towards Economics, hoping that we can use it to swing Mili Trad and Perhaps either ToG or Magentism, or both.

We'll know the result in 5 turns.

T8 930

Econ is in. It goes to Greece with 690g for ToG. Econ, 526g and 60gpt and horses go to Japan for Magnetism and we enter the Industrial Age, drawing STEAM POWER :D

No one else has it, but that won't be true for long, so lets get our money back. Steam and Econ go to China for Gems, Furs, Mili Trad, 130gpt and 360g. Steam goes to Japan for 570g and 102gpt. I gift Sumeria and Persia into the IA hoping to snare Medicine, but they draw Nationalism and Steam. The three powers have Nationalism too, and we have lots of trade bait with Sumeria, so lets see if we can get it. For Steam, Mili Trad, Navigation, Econ and Democracy, we get Nationalism. Lastly I dump off off Steam to Alex for 930g and 22gpt. Alex s up Communism and Fascism on us. Aside from that, tech parity.

I set us off towards Electricty at full, hoping that the AI will follow their typical path to Industrialization. We have two sources of Coal, by the way.

T10 950

Just some quiet railroading. I establish embassies everywhere. China and Japan have a head start on us for Smith's. Greece is even further ahead. We can convert my Smith's build in Berlin to a bank now or hold onto it and hope to get Industrialization before Greece finishes Smith's. Its your call.

Summary

We gained seven techs. We're going max towards Electricity. I upgraded our sad military to Cavalry and cannons. As cities complete their banks, more of them can start pumping out cavs. We are a bit short on workers, but I've tried to organize them the best I could. Our first goal should be to get a rail net connecting our cities and worry about doing every single square later. We''l have a lot of optimization to do with all those plains in the south, many will be able to be mined for extra shields. Get us some more cavalry so we have something to defend our Reich with! Also, since we make 260gpt with 100% research, we can upgrade our spears to rifles.

BTW, Greece shredded the Maya down to one city on an island

I agree, it shouldn't be too hard. We already have a solid base of cavalry and cannons, and soon we can have a nice amount of rifles too. Once the railnet is in place, we should be ready to rock. As long as we keep him from Replaceable Parts, it should be no real problem to take him down.

Great trading!

Ok, Greece is the bad guy. Cannon, cavs and rifles should do the trick. Research to ReplParts maybe, for better cannon and rifles and faster workers.

EDIT: btw, I read somewhere one of the reasons Renata has no time to play - presumably the anticipated one :). Congratulations and good luck on your marriage, Renata!

Fabulous turns, Emperor! That makes me up again, if the save doesn't work I think I'll have to drop out of this one and another due to my computer's inability to handle big save files :( .

Edit: Congratulations Reneta :wedding: [party] .

Edit2: I took a little peak at the save, and some questions.

We have quite a few cav, and our silks deal expires next turn, should I finish England off?

Babylon could be gifted up to the IA, and we might get medicine. Might this be a good idea?

I changed a lot of banks to cav, simply because I can't imagine ever needing banks ever again. On deity at this point, the human doesn't need to steal, we can just research ourselves and leave the AI's in the dust.

Another commment: I think we should wait for panzers to attack Greece. One reason, is it's funner, and two, panzers are so much better for leaderfishing, and armies are good :) .

One more question, hoovers or ToE?

Thanks, Own!

Nice trading, KB.

Damn, I forgot Babylon? Oh well....gift them up, we can still maybe get Medicine. Taking out England sounds good as well.

As for ToE or Hoovers.....both please :)
We can probably get the ToE prebuild going soon, along with a Hoovers build as well.

Preturn

I don't like this english archer walking by our empty core cities.
Start military academy as prebuild for ToE

IT

Alex wants RoP and MPP, I sell him WM instead for 7 gold :D:

960 AD (1)

Some MMing, scientists, police and other stuff.
We need much more workers, BTW.
We need our territory RRed as fast as possible to boost production and growth.
I put 1 cav in Munich, just in case, I don't trust this english archer.

IT

Silk deal with England ends.
Huh! english archer turns back. Was it heading to attack Munich?

970 AD (2)

I tell Lizzy to take this archer out. She obeys, and I close northern border.
I buy silks back for chemistry.

980 AD (3)

Sumeria now has communism too, he-he.

IT

Greeks finish Maya

990 AD (4)

China has communism too.

IT

Greece gets Industrialisation (cause they start US)

1000 AD (5)

1010 AD (6)

Hmm... China also has Industrialisation.
Sell Nationalism to Japan for 115 gold and 67 gpt

IT

Palace expansion
We lose supplies of wines and ivory

1020 AD (7)

Get wines and ivory back from Babylon for physics and dyes

1030 AD (8)

Electricity in 1 turn --> research 20%

1040 AD (9)

Get Electricity start Medicine (7 turns)
Sell Electricity to Greece for Industrialisation, 992 cash and 64X20 payments credit.
Cash-rush some factories - wellcome pollution!

1050 AD (10)

Again start prebuild for Toe in Konigsberg now with factory

SAVE

I completely forgot to post some thoughts for future, although I'm sure noone here needs to be reminded of such simple things :).

1. There's no chance something will prevent us from getting ToE. (If prebuild timing is not perfect and it's finishing comes two or three turns earlier, just lower production of Konigsberg or switch to palace)

2. Prebuild for Hoover should be started the very next turn. Actually I made mistake not starting it already. I forgot that the minute we get ToE - we get Electronics. I think Minas Morgul is good city for prebuild, just rush factory there this turn.

3. Many core cities already have factories, so.... we get Hoover,we finish RR and we are ready to roll.

Got it. I'll quickly go before Own, as I'll be away after tomorrow (until Monday).

Turn 0, 1050AD: change a few builds. Heidelburg could be a good city for Hoover.
The only available lux we do not have or trade for is spices, but nobody has spares. Aztecs have spices in former India, and are backwards. Perhaps time to send a little invasion force?

IT: Bummer - Azt and Sum sign MPP. Aztec invasion is still a good possibility of course, Sum cannot really hurt us.

Turn 1, 1060AD: realize Hoover needs a river, not just fresh water. Dam! Looks like Leipzig would be a good choice, and I rush a coal plant there. Discover a Greek polar expedition (Alex of the Arctic?):
GR8B1060AD_Greeks_at_the_Pole.jpg

Turn 2, 1070AD: Sum now has Electricity, and Medicine has spread as well. So: Babylon gets Electricity for Medicine + Free Artistry + WM. Res SciMeth.

IT: The Greeks send 10 cavs into our lands.

Turn 3, 1080AD: tell Greece to leave or declare. He chooses to declare. Our forces are somewhat light: 10 cannon, 10 cavs. I kill 10 cavs, lose none. Our defenses are pretty crummy, and Greece has an RoP with England. I could sign England in, but then it will take 20 turns, that's not good. Upgrade some spears(!) to rifles. Gegen Demokraten helfen nur Soldaten (Greece is a democracy). Also shortrush a few cavs, and hope for the best.
Apparently Greece was paying us a lot of money, so science goes down to 60% to save some cash. Spot another stack of 3 cavs in England.

IT: we kill 2 Greeks cavs but lose 3 cavs and some spears, swords etc. Greece captures New Hamburg. WLTKD in lots of cities, and a palace expansion :crazyeye:.

Turn 4, 1090AD: Retake New Hamburg. Kill 4 Greek cav, lose none.

IT: France and Greece embargo us. Scary. Greece attack has shifted to the east, probably because our western frontier is now protected by rifles. We're lucky at Tulum, where a ceremonial sword manages to hold out against a cav. In total we kill 2 Greek cavs and lose 1 sword - not bad.

Turn 5, 1100AD: Game crashes after I press F3 - first time this happens to me. Restart from autosave. The eastern front:
GR8B1100AD_GreekAttack.jpg

Sign RoP with England, to facilitate the killing of Greek cavs. Kill 5 Greek cavs, lose 1.

IT: Japan destroys Persia. China and Greece ally against us, we lose our supply of Gems and Furs. Lost 2 rifles, kill 3 cavs, retreat 1. Our sword at Tulum again kills a cav! And this:
GR8B1100AD_Smith.jpg

Hamburg riots because of the lost luxes. WLTKD is cancelled throughout, but the people are so happy that they'll build another wing for our palace :). Aztecs finish Shakes.

Turn 6, 1110AD: Kill 3 cav, lose 0. I don't want a dogpile, so:
Japan: ally vs China + 12 gpt <-> Medicine
Sum: ally vs China <-> RoP + Dyes
Azt: ally vs China <-> Medicine
Bab: ally vs China <-> RoP + 10 gpt (we're importing 2 luxes from these guys)
Sum: spices <-> iron + 10 gpt

That should keep the Chinese busy :).

IT: lose 2 rifles to cav attacks at Tulum (after naval bombardment), retreat a few cavs. Another palace expansion. Our people must like war :). The RoP with England was maybe not such a good idea as we now have some English knights on our lands, and none of our interior cities is defended at all.

Turn 7, 1120AD: Some of our friends have money, so:
Azt: 61 gpt <-> Nationalism
Jap: 43 gpt <-> Industr

Kill 4 cavs, no losses. sci 70%.

IT: Babylon and Greece ally against us, so the insurance did not work :(. Lose 2 luxes. Greeks continue their endless naval bombardment of Tulum, and take undefended Frankfurt. We're still very short on troops. Leipzig riots because of the lux problem, I scroll ahead and hire a boatload of clowns.

Turn 8, 1130AD: retake Frankfurt, killing a rifle and a cav. Kill 4 cavs in the open, lose 1.
Jap: wines + 27 + 1 gpt + WM <-> Electricity. It's ridiculously cheap, but at least we get another lux, while it lasts. lux to 10%, sci 80%. We have apparently hit first level WW.

IT: lose 2 rifles and a cav. Greeks land 1 rifle and 4 cavs near Berlin. We cannot possibly sustain this rate of attrition much longer.

Turn 9, 1140AD: kill 2 cavs, lose 0, and:
GR8B1140AD_Siegfried.jpg

Of course he forms a cav army. Kill another 6 cavs, 1 rifle, at no losses.

IT: A bab frigate shows up on the west coast. Lose a rifle, retreat a few cav. Pollution near Konigsberg.

Turn 10, 1150AD: a bunch of cities goes unhappy, must be second level WW. lux 20%. I have a bit of luck:
GR8B1150AD_Brunnhilde.jpg

Brunnhilde also forms a cav army. sci 20%. Kill a rifle and 2 cavs I think, no losses. Our armies pillage some roads around Marathon to slow Greek attacks.

notes:
  • Feel free to change builds as you think best. Konigsberg is prebuilding for ToE, Leipzig for Hoover. Perhaps we should also build the Mil Academy? It seems to make armies stronger...
  • Greece will still not talk. I guess Alex needs to feel the power of the cav army first. I would try to raze Marathon, but cav armies alone is a bit risky. Better bring some guns as well I think.
  • The Greek galleon near Bonn is probably filled and heading north to the iron mountain, the ones near Coba are probably empty.
  • On the last IT I saw 4-5 Greek cavs moving north near Norwich (there's one visible now). Greek attacks seem to focus on Tulum, Dover and New Hamburg.
  • The Greeks like to bombard Tulum, and usually manage to kill a rifle as well. Hopefully the coastal fortress will help.
  • There are fortified troops along our southern border with Greece and England. Ships are in Stuttgart and Fish Point.

The save.

Alex!! What a shmuck. Couldn't wait a lil bit for panzers?

Great turns, zyxy! Although I thought Minas is better for Hoover.
