GRAND OPENING: CivFanatics File Database

Is there a selection (good enough / downloaded enough / minimum size / someone approval) or every work I make can be added to the database?
You make the decision. If you release a mod on the forum, chance is it should be added to the File Database.

Will the link to the file in the thread (Easy Upload) still work after, or the file will move to a different URL then? Should I remove the link in the thread then?

Sorry for asking this, but why not both? There's surely a reason I didn't understand, but why someone has to go to the thread to the database to get a link to download the file? It is easier if whatever threat or database had a link to the file. I mean: the file has only one URL, but there's a link is in both places.
The recommended procedure is first add the file to the file DB, then in your forum thread you can either link to your file entry in the DB, or use the download link provided by the file DB. This way you don't forget to add the file to the database. We want all mods to be in a comprehensive database so people can perform search on all the files.

It also allows more accurate tracking of download counts since everyone downloads your mod via the file DB download link. If you link to your file directly using the link provided by easy upload in forum thread, downloads will not be counted.

Linking to the file entry or file DB download link in forum thread also has another benefit: when you update a mod's download link, you just update the file in the file entry and the file DB download link in the thread would still be valid.

One last question... For a mod like my Leonardo which is neither a real civilization (a Leonardo da Vinci Civ has never really existed) and neither a fantasy concept one (no elf, wizard and this kind of stuff) which one would be the right category? I ask because this is the kind of mod I like to edit.
The New Civilizations category is ok.

I created a new category called "Civ4 - Audio & Video" under " Civ4 - Mod Components". This is for things like custom sound effects, music, and videos for Civ4.

I have moved the existing sound files to the new category.

I have a suggestion. Could we provide a link to the thread that a unit was first published in from its page in the database? When I'm searching for units, I want to see the unit in action, a preview that you don't get on the database screen.

That's really up to the author/publishers. I for one always add a link to the thread where I originally published the unit, if one exists. :)

I've been doing that too. I think it ought to be standard practice, although I notice that quite a few people aren't doing it.

Also, where an animated gif has been uploaded to the thread, it's the work of a moment to copy-'n'-paste that gif to the database entry too. So really there's no excuse not to provide an animated preview there too, if one exists.

When I get time I may start going through some of the unit entries in the file database and adding thread links and animated gifs (where available). A bit of a chore, but it ought to be done at some point.

Actually, it looks like guests can post comments after all. See here for the proof, as well as evidence that TF's fear of such a situation is well founded.
The most interesting think about this link Plotinus was the banner ad, given our demographics:

FYI: The downloads database used to strip < > in descriptions. It should no longer do it now.

any chance to extend maps db section in future? there should be at least two things added:
selection by size
selection by game type (civ4 or civ4warlords)
those two are the must filters in map db
btw. is anywhere in internet some good civ4 map database?

what with my first question to site moderators?

Sorry. The filter feature you suggested likley will not be implemented anytime soon. It certainly would be nice to have.

Well, apparently there are no mods for Vanilla Civ4 in the Database.

I know that the filter can't be implemented soon, but why not have marks that indicate for people who are browsing which game each mod works for.

Every single interesting mod that I have seen so far is for Warlords, and I don't have the tie or money to get it.

I love that you've expanded the top ten to top (at least) 15 for the files and recent additions. Can you do it as well with contributors?
