Greatest RPG's of all time?

Wisdom and charisma are very important. And also, tattoos.

Dragon Warrior/Quest 4 gets my vote.

hmmmm, it does have RPG elements though, but I agree that it is more an adventure sandbox game then a RPG.

Pokemon isn't really much of an RPG.

By what criteria? You have a party. Members of the party can gain experience, climb a rudimentary skill tree and be equipped with items. You roleplay a character, making choices and adventuring. If Dragon Warrior can be on this list, so can Pokemon.

The role-play part is lacking, there is almost no character development, you have very few choices outside of leveling and choosing your pokemon, most of the game is completely scripted, you can't change people's opinions. Its semi-RPG but not quite a full one.

This debating over the semantics of what an RPG is makes me hurt my head from rolling my eyes so much.

Give it the eye test. Pokemon is obviously an RPG, what the hell else is it?

So it's just like Oblivion only you can't disrupt the script as much by killing the scripted?

Pokemon needs zombies.

That was what this thread was about right? RIGHT!?

PS:T is the greatest. It kind of ruined most other rpgs when it comes to story. High Int, Wis and Cha is the best way to play it, imo.

Final Fantasy 6 (3 in the U.S) is by far the greatest RPG of all time.

Anyone who says they do not like that game needs to get out of this thread because they obviously do not know classic console rpgs when they see it.

FF7 wins. Obviously.

FF7 sucks compared to VIII, IX, X, X-2, and XII.

While I wouldn't say it's nearly as bad as 12, I tend to agree with the sentiment. FF7 ain't a bad game, but it soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo overrated (6 and 10 are best IMO, with 9 a close third).

Of course, the FF games also raise the "what is an RPG" question. Personally, I wouldn't really class them as such ;)
