I do not see any valid readon why a greek-american shouldnt be proud of his greek ancestry. Im sure that american people in general try to have an identity anyway, even if it does not go back to something as important as ancient Greece.

Btw Greece was important later on as well, remember the Byzantine Empire?

Alright we get it you don't like people to chose their own identity that is different than yours. It makes no sence why it should be that way and people should be denied that freedom but you agree that they should not be denied that freedom only that it is a stupid freedom. So the whole point is to tell your same as previously opinion.

Also it is my opinion that people should be killed whenever they speak. What a discussion ? No it is my opinion i don't want it to be a law it is just my opinion that it is silly that people are not killed whenever they speak. How interesting.

Funnily enough i am the only one not basing his arguement on not what a specific national group does but on what i find that are the general freedoms that every group and person should enjoy.

It never happened since it did not happen 2000 years ago. Everything that happened in Greece , happened 2000 years ago.

More seriously though, I do think that the greeks and turks uniting on their byzantine heritage would be awesome, considering the fact that what is greece now is just historically a backwater byzantine province anyway. The Empire's core was always in Anatolia.

I have no problem with people being proud of their cultural history; it can obviously get obnoxious at times, but no-one is actually forcing you to listen to it. Finding pride in your culture's history is ultimately illogical, but so is eating fat foods, hunting for sport, and many other things; it is something most modern humans indulge in, and as you can see from the posts above, are empowered by it. Anyone can feel "nationalistic" regarding his culture, Greeks just have it easier. If us Jews can feel proud after hundreds of years of being kicked about, so can anyone.

I always thought that when it comes to football(or soccer) the actual american fans that are supporting their teams, those are the most nationalistic ever!!!
