Guess the Civs in the 2nd expansion - One World!

I think we'll see

1. Portugal
The last major colonial power they haven't implemented (besides Italy, though Portugal was much, much larger)

2. Holy Roman Empire
One of the last historic European empires that isn't in the game.

3. Tibetan Empire
Geographically and culturally quite distinct from China, certainly not any more obscure than Polynesia or Songhai.

4. Mexico or Canada
I think one of them is bound to make it.

5. Assyrian Empire
Or maybe Israel? There's a lot of civs around the Middle East already so I'm not too sure about this one.

6. Brazil/Argentina/Chile
This one is for sure, they need some South American representation

7. Another African civ
Probably the Zulu like people have been saying, or maybe something else. Africa actually has quite a few civs in Civ5 (Ethiopia, Carthage, Songhai, Egypt) so they might go for something more distinct.

Anyways, I think the criteria is just that the civ is unique enough to fit into the game. Many civs already in the game were only "empires" by name (Korea, Ethiopia, Celtica etc...) and quite a few overlap each other in terms of geography (Persia, Arabia, Ottomans, and Babylon all occupy the same general area).

Canada could easily be geared as a diplomatic civ, with a UA bonus or new mechanic that bolsters pacts, treaties, and trade offers. Tie in a unique unit like Peacekeeper (a bit stereotypical and not completely founded in reality) that can only defend, but if attacked incurs a global diplomatic hit on the aggressor, including standing with CS'. Include maple syrup as a new luxury tile that gives +1 food and gold in forests.

You just completely proved my point. :goodjob:

How about instead of peacekeepers we use Mounties Canada is well known for them.

3. Tibetan Empire
Geographically and culturally quite distinct from China, certainly not any more obscure than Polynesia or Songhai.

Politics will (Unfortunately) get in the way of this one

I have listed my list a couple of times:

1. Portugal (100% sure).
2. Zulu (Sadly it seems a given)
3. Summer
4. Brazil
5. Indonesia
6. Kongo
7. Israel (I know it could be controversial to a degree - but I still think it offers more for marketing than it does controversy)
8. An unknown. There is a wild card nearly every expansion. I would venture would be colonial related - Perhaps Gran Colombia
9. Comanche (Sioux have been done so many times and considering the Civil War data files, I think odds are actually higher for the largest Native American empire in N. America: Comancheria)
10. Inca, fitting what was done with Spain

Brazil
Poland
Portugal
Kongo
Olmec

I think Potugal and Zulu have enough love around here that they'll be in. I agree that we won't see as many as there were in G&K, but I'm thinking 5-6 new ones (assuming, of course, that there will actually be an EP). I'd really like to see Indonesia since they're a pretty awesome civilization in general.

So, here are the ones I think will make the cut (with a bit of bias)
1. Portugal - huge into exploration and colonization; pretty much a given
2. Zulu - fan favorite. So many people have asked for them that it would be silly for Fraxis to leave them out, but we could use another African civ
3. Brazil - they've recently become a huge economic powerhouse, so it seems to fit the bill pretty well, plus it's another South American civ
4. Indonesia -a pretty large unique civ with a lot of possibilities
5. Souix/Camanche/(Haida) - North America was heavily affected by colonization, which may be where the "one world" aspect fits in. I'd love to have the Haida, but the other two are much more likely since people know of them.
6. ??? We have Western Europe covered; Eastern Europe is relatively open, but there aren't a ton of options. There were a ton of early Middle Eastern civs that could be included, I'm not sure if they would fit with this whole theme. An Australian civ would be interesting, but I'm not sure they'll ever leave city-state status. Tibet and Israel, while great ideas, have far too many political issues to even be considered.

I think this expansion will focus a lot more on gameplay mechanics than the civs. Well see if we get any type of announcement in the coming weeks, but I'm still pretty sceptical about another EP.

Think we are forgetting other IV civs like the Sumer.

Here's what I hope/expect: one world will have a focus same as G&K, but this time around it will be on commerce. With luck, the name's connotations of a less belligerent AI with a willingness to pursue in peaceful relationships as long as they remain beneficial.

Hopefully, we'll get things caravans back in the game, so there will civilians units going back and forth across international trade routes.

This screams Portugal to me. Check out my versions of Portugal over in the "Civ's/Leaders Wanted" thread.

Canada would be a good pick, as would Italy with its focus on guilds and maritime commerce. Maybe Switzerland too (sounds odd, but they're a good candidate for a diplo victory civ.

Brazil would be another civ with strong potential.

I think Kongo was pretty well known for its trade relations during the colonial age.

My guesses:

1- Portugal (popular, only global empire left, could fit the xpack's supposed theme)
2- Zulu (popular, traditional)
3- Sioux (or another NA native civ, but the Sioux seems to be the most famous, at least to me)
4- Poland (highly demanded, and it's unrealistic to expect only one European civ)
5- Indonesia (it's past iterations seems to be popular, have a lot of potential, and SE Asia could use another civ)
6- Sumer (or another ancient Middle East civ, but this one seems more popular and likely)
7- Brazil (or another South American civ, but Brazil seems to be much more popular than natives like the Tupi or Mapuche, and it seems to fit the xpack's supposed theme better than Argentina. "Gran" Colombia is a popular alternative, but if the matter is filling the eastern South America, Brazil is more appropriated)
8- Kongo (seems to fit the xpack's supposed theme, it's becoming very popular, seems to be more distinct than Mali and could be featured in a trade/diplomatic scenario with Portugal)
9- I have no idea, perhaps a scientific civ.

Lot of different flavors (militaristic, economic, diplomatic, cultured, seafaring, ancient, modern etc.).

My wishes (besides all of the above civs with exception of Poland and Sumer): Armenia, Israel, Tibet and Khazars.

I expect a lot less Civs in One World than G&K, but I hope it's again a nice mix of male and female leaders.

I also hope to see at least a couple of female leaders. After a quick glance at wikipedia I offer the following suggestions:

Elżbieta Sieniawska for Poland-Lithuania

Kubaba for Sumeria

Tribhuwana Wijayatunggadewi (Sri Gitarja) for Majapahit

A Kandake such as Pelekh Candace of Meroe or Amanirenas for Kush/Nubia

portugal
sumeria
zulu
israel modern/ancient
hanseatic league
norway :) (so all vikings are covered)

Didn't we already have one thread like this? Anyway, my wishes/expectations would be something like:

- Portugal (expected)
- Zulu (expected)
- Khmer (wish)
- Some native american like Sioux (wish)
- Probably some "modern" civs like Canada and Brazil
- Probably some more African civs like Kongo

Poland is a no-go from my side. Sorry but I just don't see it.

I would go with a custom civ and leader foremostly
so there need to be a editor or construction set thing or how its called
where you can build a customized civ beforehand

I'll throw out a couple of curveballs, none of which I expect to actually be in...

Chola empire, since that aspect of Indian history is completely neglected by the present representation of India in the game
Oman, which held much of the East coast of Africa at one point
Burma, although I prefer Sri Vijaya for SE Asia myself
Kanem-Bornu which is remarkable for its sheer longevity

Maybe:

Portugal
Kongo
Brazil
Burma
Vietnam
Indonesia
Poland
Serbia

Could make some interesting scenario's.

1. Hittites
2. Zulus
3. Portugal
4. Mughals
5. Majapahit
6. Congo/Zimbabwe
7. Sioux/Anazazi
8. Brazil? I think Brazil is certainly earning their place in Civ, they certainly will be much more important in the future.
9. the incas.
I really think the focus will go for more indigenous empires, or lesser known representing less represented regions. I would be very surprised if they added more than 1 European civ.
