Level of regulation for firearms?

I'm not the map maker but I'm positive this is correct. NY, CA, and CT are all some of the harsher states, and the upper midwest has some nonsense melting point laws that restrict firearms.

Level of regulation for firearms?

Yes, correct :), I knew it was too easy for the right people.
Map is taken from https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Overview_of_gun_laws_by_nation , permission for private people to posses fire arms.

Legend, as taken from wiki:
No permit required – permits or licenses are not required to obtain and possess firearms
Partially licensed – permit required to obtain and possess handguns, but not certain types of shotguns and rifles
Shall issue – subject to fulfillment of legal conditions, the authorities may not deny license to possess firearm(s)
May issue – the authorities have final say in whether a person may obtain a license to possess firearm(s)
May issue – restricted – although the law provides for possibility of obtaining licence/permit necessary to possess a firearm, in reality they are unobtainable to average citizens
No-issue – citizens cannot legally possess firearms

I was surprised by A/CH though.

I'll start you off with a free hint, it's a ratio compared to humans!

I feel like I saw a map just like that yesterday about squirrels. But I'm not sure it had the same distribution as this one...

Since Maine is included in the deep red, I think it's bears.

EDIT: I guess I'm wrong...:(

BTW, the squirrels in NM are ground squirrels and not the tree going grey squirrels of the east.

Good guesses, nothing to do with ethnicities of any kind, but it is about humans.
