Guess the Map IV: A Thousand Cries for "Hint Please!"

What are the different sections of the map? For example, Canada is mostly light yellow, but there's a ton of gray boundary lines separating light yellow from... um... light yellow.

EDIT: A guess- Native American lands or population.

EDITY EDIT: An observation, if it helps anyone- a lot of the smaller islands are dark brown. Odd...

ENOUGH WITH THE EDITS: Another guess- bears. (Does Mexico have bears?)

...forests of some sort?

Well, half the guess is what the areas are, and half the guess is how they're shaded. :mischief:

Respectively: No, though that would be a cool map, that is actually a good observation, no, and good guess but no.

These last three edits are on the right track.

National parks or protected areas.

Nice. On the right track, but not completely correct yet (what are the regions; how are they shaded).

I don't know what the exact answer is, but it seems to be a combination of bird sanctuaries, national parks, preservation areas, and state/provinicial parks.

Average rainfall at a certain elevation? :p

Proportion of the land owned by the government.

The rules say that if i dont want to post a map i can declare 'open floor' which i assume means that anyone can post a map. If so then i declare open floor.

May I?

Yeah, well, I made it specially easy because it was the first thing that came to mind and wanted to have the 'thrill' of having people guessing my map.
Guess next time I'll actually have to look up a map that's not that obvious to guess.

Long story short, aukrest, you're up. :p ;)

17 minutes. Is that a new record?

Sorry for taking a while - but I had difficulty finding a map. Found this one by mistake, but I think it's pretty good.
