2 weeks later, reviving this, with another Greek theme ;) (To try to secure that next time someone else will post a map...)

Probably isn't hard. It might be a bit tricky. Not sure how soon it will be solved anyway.

Something something colonies of X city.

So Rome, Tarentum, Delphi, Knosos, Halicarnasus/Ephes ?

Capitals of an empire?

It is colonies of a city. Go on ;) (yeah, not much else to say there now)

You don't have to name the colonies. Just the parent city. I'll provide the source for the map then (ie in a few seconds?)

Epirus, perhaps?

Corinth? Athens?

Thats why I didnt say it. It couldnt be Sparta with all these places.

I did so too, until some time ago i research this issue mildly. I am not sure if the wiki article with all the colonies is correct, but some appear in other (more reputable) sources too.

The colonies are:

Taras (in Italy)

Herakleia in Trachis (Boeotia, it did not survive for long though, destroyed months after it was founded by the Thessalians and allies, during the Peloponnesian war)

Knidos (in Caria, Asia Minor)

Lyttos (in Crete)

Foronia (near Rome, not sure at all about this one but it seems it was argued by some ancient scholars like Strabo from Pontus)

PS i chose the map theme exactly because i guessed most others would know little about Sparta's other colonies, like i did.

Your turn Lohrenswald (or open floor if you wish) :)

Doesn't seem to be about elevation given that Epirus is colored the same as Black-sea coastal Bulgaria. One is highly mountainous, the other is grassland/plain.
