Guide to NESing!

Daschsmpag not ruthless enough. I would have burnt as much of Carthage and Byzantium as possible, massacred their citizens, burnt their cities, looted their crops, sowed salt in their field and made sure nothing could live there again ever.
Just ask Kalinga they lost all their cities in the Gujarat area.

Dachspmg, Your better than me, and i think i am an ok NESer

at least i think you are better than me, judging from your orders :p
Thanks, but I guess it's not good enough to have beaten Sheep and Krimzon at the same time....

Yeah, anyway, never despair. You can only lose if you want to or stop trying to win.

One third of the country is infamous for it's merchant's tricks

You aren't exactly responsible for that one, I'm afraid. ;)

I didn't capture Carthage and I wasn't the one to take Byzantium, andis did that w/o consulting w/ allies. Although I would love to do that...

Yes, silver, and you've turned my entire population against you. "Oh look, they aren't friendly AFTER ALL. OMG!"

Good job. :)

I did it to teach you a lesson. But clearly you have not learned it. Very well....

Massacreing my citizens makes me more determined, not less. In other words, I will not be satisfied until you die.

Maybe, Jason, but then again it could be treated as a fair warning - the people should know what sort of looneys live here before joining us. ;)

Kalinga will be reduced to the anals of history. In case you have forgotten you started this war but I will finish it.

"Annals", not "anals", silver. It sounds really obscene otherwise.

"Annals", not "anals", silver.

Its silver, so it should indeed be "anals". ;)

Finmaster
Generation: 3rd (?), started in april 2003
NESes run: 3 (been planning the 4th for months, it will come out once I have time for it!)
Favored type: All story NESes, especially the ones in which I get to play modern-day Finland.
Disfavored type: Fantasy, scifi and board NESses (except neo nesses by stalin!)
Favorite NES: Original Neo NES (by stalin). Also the one by Azale in which I was Greenland.
Animosity to: Those who take the game too personally. And those who don't have AIM.
Approves of: Almost everyone. But I do have some special favourites. Stalin006 for simply being a cool guy. Azale, Sheep and Emu for being kinda like mentors back when I was a newbie.

***

To me there are only two generations of NESers: those who came before me and those who came after me.

To all newbs out there: don't take the game personally, learn to understand the difference between IC and OOC. If your nation get screwed up by your allies in a NES, it was the nation that got screwed, not the player. Don't drag it on to other NESes, you will just ruin the game for everyone and become labeled as an a-hole.

I started wondering how much Nesing has changed since the days when I was a newbie..

Back then there was a lot less moralizing ("I had the right to attack you but you didn't have the right to attack me!"), people just had fun stabbing each other in the back.

Back then people wrote less stories, but they wrote BETTER stories (seriously, to those who write 5 long stories per update in a NES: you are running out of interresting things to say!)

Back then you didn't necessarily have to concentrate on giving exact military orders, in most nesses you could just count on your generals (I don't know if it's a good or a bad thing that this has changed, though).

Back then there were nesses in which updates came DAILY! (The Legendary Neo Nes)

There were less players, but you knew them all, you knew the playing style of EVERYONE! Nowdays, I don't know half of you people..

Back then there wasn't a preview thread or a reservation thread before each new NES (I think those preview threads are complete waste of everyone's time). People just joined when a NES started.

Back then most players could be found on AIM every now and then.

I miss the good old days

And now the 1st-generation players are laughing to a newb who thinks he is some sort of a veteran..

Haha, no, I'm not laughing at your Finmaster, I agree with everything you said. I miss having the ability to know everyone on the forums, where they are from, and what age they are and generally talk to them on AIM. Or, in most NES's, when you had huge alliance meetings in a chatroom, etc. Those were the good ole days. Either I'm just out of the loop now, or its just not like that anymore.

And yes, for all those newbs out there, this time in history is actually extraordinary (not in a good way) with updates. People would think an NES was dead if it wasn't updated in a week, lol. Updates were generally every two or three days, if not every day. And they weren't novels, like some updates are now.

Generally, times have changed, some for the better, some of the worse. All we can do is go with the flow.

Jason

And those who don't have AIM.

I'll make sure to double the guard. ;)
Back then there was a lot less moralizing ("I had the right to attack you but you didn't have the right to attack me!"), people just had fun stabbing each other in the back.

Actually, that's a rather isolated phenomenon. Its just easier to notice then people taking things calmly, like I do. ;)

Again, people still sometimes write a few good stories, but lots of small stories are easier to notice. I do believe that the people still write, in general, the same amount of stories, of roughly the same quality. There's just more of those people.

Back then you didn't necessarily have to concentrate on giving exact military orders, in most nesses you could just count on your generals (I don't know if it's a good or a bad thing that this has changed, though).

Technically, my NES is supposed to be like this as well, hence military leadership. Detailed tactics are nice, but they can give lots of problems if something doesn't go according to the plan.
Back then there were nesses in which updates came DAILY! (The Legendary Neo Nes)

Yes, I miss those times as well though I never played in NeoNES (it came while I was absent, I believe).

There were less players, but you knew them all, you knew the playing style of EVERYONE! Nowdays, I don't know half of you people..

Well, personally I know most of them, not as sure about playing style though I have few problems there as well. Maybe you just didn't have enough time yet?
Back then there wasn't a preview thread or a reservation thread before each new NES (I think those preview threads are complete waste of everyone's time). People just joined when a NES started.

Yes, I liked that as well. Although they do give people time to think up some story ideas and stuff.
I miss the good old days

In the words of pan Andzjey Sapkowsky, "Something ends, something begins". Its not better or worse now, just different.
And now the 1st-generation players are laughing to a newb who thinks he is some sort of a veteran..

*Points fingers, laughs*

;)

Which generation do we have now? 7th?

Anyways, things changed, this just became more massive in all regards, the quantity increased but the quality remained, essentially, the same. Details changed, the essence remained. All that has changed is the scope. [insert lots of analogical ramblings] Either way, this community is evolving, is becoming more complex, and I still do like it.

There is only one qualm I have with the newer players. Acting insanely out of character and not at all realistic or sensible, it just ends up screwing the game up for others and can get really tiresome after awhile, when I was a n00b , as far as I can remember(not counting the earliest earliest days of the old Caesar_Augustus screename ;) [According to that I am first generation NESer!] ) I never acted so irrational or so unrealistic and insane. But then again I'm just a grumpy old NESer, so don't mind me. :p
