The Germans show they are unwilling to trade fairly for their offered techs. Demanding almost twice the gold they currently have and more gold than anyone would reasonably have. 100% of nothing is still nothing.

Privately, you've offered me Jack Sh_t... chump change... a frigging joke of an offer... for a tech that takes forever. This offer declined by me, you then immediately threatened me. You threaten to steal my techs. You threaten to have a game 'friend' (who's in closer proximity to me... France?) steal my techs for you. You have voiced nothing but threats since I declined your rediculous JOKE of an offer.

I don't take well to threats... AT ALL!
And to everyone else (especially France and England): watch yourself. If you allow this little peasant/begger of Scotland to lead you into war, then war you shall have. Anyone who miraculously 'discovers' my technology 'over night' will be suspect of an act of war against Germany, and steps will be taken accordingly. Any country aiding and abetting this peasant kingdom, allowing him to move emmissaries through their domain towards Germany, shall be making a declaration of war against Germany, and Germany shall act accordingly.
@France: it is uneasy enough along our frontier as it is! You assist him in his threats, or allow him access to me, and you have just declared game-long final war against Germany, and Germany shall act accordingly.
@Norse and Danes: the so called (and falsely named) christian kingdoms of France, Anglo-Saxons and Scotts have demonstrated the rediculousness of human error into this time period, deliberatly shutting out and excluding Germany from their pat little 'triumvirate'. It is Germany (who has obviously been intended by these so-called christian brothers) who has been manuevered into taking position as the 'fall guy'. My belief is that these bast*rds are hoping to make Germany the 'blunt' of your aggressions, while they build themselves more powerful, watching us tear at each other. I have a most incredible offer for the each of you, which you shall be immediately receiving privately.
What do you two guys want? Whatever it is, hell, you've got it! I'm sick and damned tired of these three 'christian' kings excluding, threatening, stealing, etc. Give me a virgin for my sacrificial dagger, any day!

The Scots made no threats of any kind. We simply tried to impart some wisdom to the Germans. And, as the Germans have already shown, they react with lies and slander.
You tried to tell the Scots of a previous exchange of techs was a one sided 'gift' to us. We simply told you that, way back then, if the tech was not able to be traded for we heard of talk that it could be acquired other ways. In an effort to provide a peaceful solution and to solidify our realtions an even exchange of techs was offered.
At that same time it was asked if you would be willing to participate in a collective effort to repel the Heathen invaders. You declined since you were not being threatened by them. Those who were threatened performed this task without you. Since then you have been offered ways to share in the collective efforts once again, and once again you declined. So it should be of no surprise that the Germans stand 'alone'. It is our your choosing.
The wisdom we tried to instill to your absurd demand for your technology was simple logic. Logic dictates that when something can be acquired cheaper some other way, your demands are too extreme. Thus an unreasonable demand will net you nothing, while a reasonable demand could have netted you a tidy amount.
Scotland does not fear the blowhard words of the Germans. They are no more a threat to us as we are a threat to them.

England has no quarrel with Germany, but neither has she ever been particularly friendly. Our early attempts to swap, sell or buy technology were rebuffed, and we can take a hint.
Anyway, a warrior King like Alfred would get bored without enemies to slaughter....
[And for the purposes of this playtest, we NEED some conflict...It was always likely that Germany would side with the Heathen Northmen, given the inevitable friction with France. It will be interesting to see how Germany can strike at England or Scotland, however...]

@PE: you flatter yourself. What has England, which I would/could possibly want!? I've no interest in you... which is good, as we've no common border, anyway. However... I suspect that if I did want to cross the channel... what Moses accomplished in the Red Sea would seem as child's play. I've been known to cross that expanse of water before, only to have the... 'recipient' of my pleasure call it "Miraculous". Of course, if you ever decide that you might wish to commense trade with Germany, feel free to give me a yell. Otherwise, as the saying goes, "Money talks, while your bullsh*t walks..."
@Everyone: incompetent in war, ignorant in economics, Otto yields!! Surrenders to his advisors suggestions! Germany is commensing with focusing on economic reform, rather than military arms... thus, am now open to negotiations with anyone who might be interested in developing a trade agreement/trade routes.
@Franks: Leige area de-militarized (cavalry unit removed). In addition (as you will be able to view with your turn), there are NO offensive-capable units defending the Ardenne forest area 'castle'. Some units without ANY offense are occupying it to prevent any excursions (or bribes, thus more than one unit

Otto is still struggling with the Demons that plague him, and also with economic (peaceful) reforms. Defensive garrisons of Kiev destroyed this turn, victorious German units poised to enter the gates of the city as Conquerors, gaining the Trade Routes to the Far East!
