Happy Ramadhan

Ramadan mubarak, etc. etc. etc. etc.

(As a side question, is the "Mubarak" in Ramadan Mubarak the same word as Mubarak the former Egyptian dictator-president-whatever or is that just coincidence?)

The years when Ramadan comes in the summer must be the worst.

what is Ramadan?

thought I'd ask instead of google ;)

and why do people walk around the kaba stone counterclockwise?

Ramadan is the holiest month in Islam when a Muslim is expected to fast from sunset to sunrise for 30 days.

Thank you for your thoughts. And they're not so bad, because at least then I don't have to be in school and active, I can actually pretty much sleep the fast away.

I haven't really noticed any decorations here. One of my friends who works in Oman works at a government academy and she has to wear a headscarf for the month at work even though she's not Muslim.

Most of the bars are closed but a few hotel bars managed to stay open. Maybe they pay a big tax.

Isn't this like saying "Happy Lent"?

I admire the fasting, good discipline. One thing I will give religion credit for is instilling discipline.

Happy Ramadan. I shall join in celebrating this event by feasting on lots of pork. Mmmm, pork.
