Harald Hardrada [LH]

Historically, this leaderhead serves for neither. Harald Hardråde was a Christian king who died in 1066. He would have dressed like any other medieval European king.

Not like Conan the Barbarian.

I know, that what I suggested here (even if history remember him as more civilized because of its afffinity with christianity, he was probably still a rude leader):
If we look at the representation of Canute in painting, it probably look to much barbarian for Canute.

Horewer, Civ LH aren't the most historical founded representation and, even for Harald, this LH is maybe to barbaric for a king. But it's a game, and we want to have things that flash , so I think it still make a nice Viking LH.

Maybe it can be use also as a European barbarian (I use barbarian here in his first meaning(not Roman)) chief, but the background wouldn't fit and I must admit that I love this background. By the way, thank to Hexagonian for the background, it's base on a modified picture that he made.

Do you have any idea of a leader that would have look more like this ?

Well, Hardråde does mean "hard rule(er)". Though that doesn't necessarily mean he didn't have a sense of fashion ;)

That would have been someone very early, like pre-Viking, possibly Roman times. I do quite like the head, so it would be good to find a good fit, if you know what I mean.

There was an Ivar Vidfamne (Ivar "Wide-fathom(er)") who did his thing from the Baltic Sea to Northumbria in England around 650 AD. But I doubt even he would have worn a dead animal on his head. Before him, though, we don't really have any names.

Not that I can think of right now, anyway...

There are of course several legendary or mythological names of Scandinavian early rulers one could choose from. Problem is, no one's likely to have heard of these guys.

Here's a short list:

- King Rakne, 550 AD (his possible burial mound, "Raknehaugen", is one of the largest in northern Europe)

- Sæming Odinsson, 250 AD (note his name: Sæming son of Odin. This guy was probably invented as a link between a ruling family and Odin, the god)

- Dag the Wise, 200 AD (mythological early king of the House of Ynglings, a royal line from which both Norwegian and Swedish kings later claimed descent.)

This last guy might be your best choice. Except, does the LH look like a guy you'd nickname "the Wise"?

Possibly. Here's a Wikipedia link.

Hah! So funny you should say that. I was actually thinking Arminius when I wrote my first reply, but had the notion for some reason that you wanted a Scandinavian ("Viking") one.

Yes, Arminius could definitely work.

As for Gothic, I guess the most famous is Theodoric (or Tjodrik), but he would have exchanged any dead animal hats with a proper crown once he took Ravenna (and probably before).

Arminius ?

No, because Arminius gained Roman Citizenship, and such LH has nothing to share with romans.

Nevertheless he is the best LH I have ever seen, and I am absolutely saddened
to be not able to use it in order to replace someone in TAM. :(

Roland, you are a LHs master: please, make some valuable ancient LHs, expecially female, using Elizabeth, Catherine or other male unused models till now.
:goodjob:

other male unused models till now.

No, I was wrong :)
I referred to MALE ancient LHs based on LHs we have never seen till now (i.e. other then Brennus, Augustus, Caesar, Alexander, ecc...) ;)
