Hawk03-5CC Persian Astronauts

I have finals week next week too- I have a bajillion tests and a project or two to do.

God, next week is going to feel like a year...

We need to weaken Greece, and maybe grab some tech in the peace deal. A small punitive force to hit German might be in order too, they sneaked in when our blockade had to move, they need a kick to remind them that they are curs under our boot:evil:

Woah. That's a lot of warring. Once our blockade gets solid, I think we should make some peace and sell our techs for gold. We're a bit strapped for cash at the moment. How far ahead of other civs are we techwise?

Oh, and Overseer, you're up.

Greek MI loses to Knight, a Leader is produced ... Greek LBM kills Knight, kills Leader

Don't you just hate it when that happens?

Roster:

Hawk: Just Played
Overseer: UP
Tasslehoff: On Deck if his finals are over
Killerkid
Choxorn
Sk8boardbob: On Skip for 2 weeks

I'm about 2 turns from finishing my Rat 29 turn set, but I'm up in Rod1 too, so I might not get to this til Wednesday night. I am always up in everything at once, it seems.

That's fine. However, it is my unfortunate duty to say that probably I won't be able to play in July at all. I'm going to camp for 4 weeks, and the time frame is something like June 30-July 27. I also will be on vacation starting Saturday of next week.

Sorry about this :(, but you guys will be fine with 5 players.

Sorry I have taken so long, but I have finally finished. Actually finished last night, but didn't have time to post. Highlights, burned some carthaginian cities, researched Theory of Gravity, traded for Metallurgy. 8 turns from finishing Newton's University. Made peace with Egypt. Here is the turn-log:
Spoiler :

Pre-flight: CivAssist 2, Word running. Get the save loaded. Look things over.
Note that we don’t need the lux slider at the moment, so lower it to 0% and raise the tech slider to 70%, we can get ToG 4 turns sooner. Switch Persepolis to Palace as a Newton’s pre-build.

Non-Combat
Slaves 46
Military units:
Archers 1
Horsemen 1
Pikemen 5
Muskets 4
Knights 9
Catapults 2
Immortals 2
Galleys 2

Hit enter=>

IBT: 2 Carthaginian swords move into threatening territory.

Turn 1, 1060 AD: Kill one sword with a knight, the other sword beats an Immortal and our horse. Bad RnG there. I think I may just build more troops to pare them back, this is annoying.

IBT: A Carthaginian sword attacks and loses to a pike.

Turn 2, 1070 AD: Move a couple knights towards Carthage. In 2 turns, I should have 4 knights to burn some of their cities.

IBT: Nothing much.

Turn 3, 1080 AD: Move some units.

IBT: 2 English LBs threaten our “Peace border”
Pasargadae Bank=>Immortals.

Turn 4, 1090 AD: Kill both English LBs clean with a knight and Immortal.
Move 4 knights adjacent to Russaddir, it burns next turn.

IBT: Carthaginian sword kills a fortified musket! Incredible crappy RnG.
Carthage settles Saldae near our capital, this is going to end soon.
Our people expand our palace, add 4 towers.

Turn 5, 1100 AD: Kill 2 NMs and the offending sword at Rusaddir, city taken and burned, 2 slaves captured. Also kill a sword guarding a settler. No losses. Move a knight to the center of no-mans land, don’t want barbs spawning.

IBT: Antioch University=>Bank.

Turn 6, 1110 AD: Wounded knights fortified in Susa.

IBT: English Longbow shows up to threaten a slave.
Our people expand our palace, add an upper story.

Turn 7, 1120 AD: Kill offending Longbow. I can’t lower tech slider any, no gain on overrun.

IBT: Theory of Gravity arrives, Metallurgy next. Check with Cleo about tech trades, but she’s not going to give enough yet.

Turn 8, 1130 AD: Switch Persepolis to Newton’s University.
Move some troops into position at Cadiz, with luck, it burns next turn.
Cleo and Alex have traded well with each other, Both now have Metallurgy, Economics, and Music Theory, and Egypt has Navigation. I hate to lose a source of War Happiness, but we must stay in the tech game. Make a peace deal with Cleo, with Physics for Metallurgy and 60 gold.
We are now researching Magnetism in 8 turns.
Note to next player: Once we finish Newton’s, we can trade ToG to Egypt, if it is not researched by them before that.

IBT: Mongols want Banking for peace, I don’t think so!
Another English leaderbait, err I mean a Longbow shows up.

Turn 9, 1140 AD: Lose 1 knight, another yellowed, but Cadiz is burned, 2 slaves taken. Lose another knight at Sulcis, 3 could have done that town.
Lose 3 hp killing English LB with elite Immortal.
Hire a taxman at Antioch to forestall a riot.

IBT: An English Longbow lands near our capital.

Turn 10, 1150 AD: 3hp knight attacks and wins at Sulcis, city is burned.
No troops can reach the Longbow this turn, but the Archer can and so can a knight from the Susa area. Just make absolutely sure that he is killed, we don’t want to be a star in the “Boy is my face red!” thread.

The save:

I vote we also burn Saldae.

Tassle, can you play now?

Well, I'm leaving for vacation today, so skip me.

Yeah, Carthage is taking a bit too many liberties for itself lately.

Alright then, I'll play tomorrow, and then you can take it on Monday or Tuesday.

Roster:

Overseer: Just Played

Done, can you take it now, Tassle?

On the turn's Highlights, I made peace with England, built Newton's Uni, and got us into the Industrial Age. I forsee war with Germany, as we don't have Coal, and they do, as do England and Greece, but we just made peace with England and Greece is the resident KAI.

Anyway...

Pre-Turn (1150 AD):
-I notice an English Galley and try to sink it. I lose two galleys and do not sink it. (0-2)

IBT:
-Arbela: Bank->Knight

Turn 1 (1160 AD):
-An archer is sent out from Pasargadae and kills an English LBM. (1-2)

IBT:
-Egypt wants a WM trade and ToG. I hurriedly click the “Goodbye” button.
-Pasargadae: Knight->Musket

Turn 2 (1170 AD):
-Trade a Knight for an NM at Nora. (2-3)

IBT:
-Greek Musket/Settler Pair shows up, I won’t be able to keep them from settling.
-Susa: Knight->Knight

Turn 3 (1180 AD):
-A Knight charge at Nora against an NM heroically fails. (2-4)
-But we fare better at Saldae, which burns. (3-4)

IBT:
-And Indeed, Greece builds a city, but our luxes are not threatened.
-Thebes completes JS Bach.

Turn 4 (1190 AD):
Zzz

IBT:
-England requests a Peace Treaty. I ask them what they’ll give, they say the city of Liverpool, 7 gold, and World Map. I’m unsure on the ruling of “Accept city for peace, and disband” that we have done already this game, and since I can’t disband immediately, I just decide to wait until my turn for peace.
-They then land a LBM near Pasargadae. I think I’ll kill it first.
-Pasargadae: Musket->Knight

Turn 5 (1200 AD):
-A Knight kills the aforementioned LBM. (4-4)
-I then go to England, take that peace deal (with 8 gold instead of 7, w00t!), and abandon Liverpool.
-I attack Nora again…
-Knight kills NM
-Knight dies on NM
-Knight kills NM, city burns (6-5)
-Turn Sci down to 60, Magnetism still in 1

IBT:
-A Pikemen fails to even scratch an attacking Carthaginian MDI. (6-6) :mad:

hawk03iafw9.jpg

-We have entered the Industrial Age! We get Steam Power for our free tech.
-I set research to Medicine, Due in 12.
-The People plant some bushes around the palace, how nice of them!

Turn 6 (1210 AD):
-Unfortunately, there isn’t any Coal anywhere in our territory- We’ll have to attack Germany or England if we want some.
-Knight kills MDI (7-6)
-Knight attacks NM on Grassland, and retreats
-Greece is the only one who has Physics but not ToG. I decide to trade it to them before they research it, and they give me Music Theory (Now useless, but I could add it on to everything useful), Economics, 55 gold, Silks, and WM.

IBT:
-Remember the NM on the Grass? He attacked and killed the retreated Knight. (7-7)
-Arbela: Knight->Knight

Turn 7 (1220 AD):
-Knight kills that NM (8-7)

IBT:
-Monty demands Economics. I tell him to stick it, he gives us the finger and another war.
-Persepolis: Newton’s University->Smith’s, either as a pre-build for ToE, or we can build Smith’s
-Susa: Knight->Knight

Turn 8 (1230 AD):
-LBM kills Archer (9-7)

IBT:
-Pasargadae: Knight->Knight

Turn 9 (1240 AD):
Zzz

IBT:
Zzz

Turn 10 (1250 AD):
@Leptis Magna: Kill an NM, lose a Knight. (10-8)

Screenie of our Territory:

Spoiler :
hawk031250sl3.jpg

And here's the 4 Coal sources on our continent:

Spoiler :
hawk03coalsourcesqt1.jpg

There are 4 more Coal sources in the world: 2 on the big Greek Island in the north, 1 on the English/German island, near the city of Dover, and 1 source on the other continent, unconnected, on the northern Egypt/Mongol border. The civs on the other continent will no doubt fight over this Coal.

Anyway, what should we do, techwise? I favor picking up Industrialization, Medicine, Electricity, and Sci Meth, and then building the Theory of Evolution. Wonder-wise, to build Smith's or not to build smith's, that is the question.

Wars: Don't bother making peace with Mongolia or Aztecs, they can't hurt us. As for Carthage, should we make peace now or wipe them off the face of the earth? Whatever the case, we'll soon need to get some Coal, and Germany's Source is the easiest to get, so I guess we'll have to fight Germany soon, and probably England too to keep them from away from that source.

Germanies' coal is our best bet, and we only need it long enough to rail. A war with them protects our rep, so that is our best bet.

Tassle- Were you able to have time to play?
If not, I can play my set.
