Hawk03-5CC Persian Astronauts

Who says we have to build the transports in Susa? We can build one in all four of our coastal cities, saving time.

Anyway, the MPP with Mongolia expires in about 3 turns. When it does, we can make peace with Greece, but we might want to wait until we have all our transports loaded and ready so to do as much damage to them as possible.

We'll lose more time than we save if we build in the western city - the transports will be very slow to round the southern peninsula.

We could split between Susa and Arbela though.

Got the save. Currently on turn 3. I can make peace with the Greeks any time, and they are willing to pay 1000 gold. I probably will take the deal as soon as I get another Transport built for operation Destroy the UN. Hopefully I can get across without being hit by subs. I may build a Mech Infantry or Tank army as cover for our Tanks, I don't want Egyptian bombers damaging our task force, as it takes a bunch of Tanks to handle healthy MIs, and a capitol usually has a bunch.

So far, the bombers have been ineffective, but it might be something to add to the mix. Any damage might help the tanks get through. I could send the Carriers ahead, but it would mean dividing our meager navy even further. I guess with a 5CC, we need to do more with less, so I'll see what I can do.

Thebes is too far off-shore to be hit with carrier-based bombers.

I am pretty sure it isn't, the place I plan to land is 3 tiles away from Thebes, there is a bay that reaches deep into the heart of that continent. I opened the save up, and Thebes is in range of carrier based bombers. Also, Egypt is winning against the Mongols, they've razed 2 Mongol cities. Bet ugh-face won't vote for Cleo anytime soon.:)

You're right, it can be hit with carriers. However, it would probably be faster to unload on Mongolia's west coast and use an RoP with them to hit Thebes, unless the Egyptians burned Darhan (the city that has the culture border 3 tiles from Thebes). Then unloading in the bay would be faster.

Darhan is gone, so the mountain at the head of the bay is where I plan to land. With an MI Army, our force should reach Thebes relatively unharmed. Looking at the Military Advisor, Egypt has 8 fighters, so we may lose some bombers, Maybe I'll use our fighter jets first. Or just forget the bombers altogether and treat it as a suicide mission for the tanks involved.

How long will it be until Synthetic Fibers finishes? MA would be much better for this job.

As to the fighters, just bomb the crap out of them with both Jets and Bombers and we'll see if anything good happens.

At 70%, still 14 turns. As long as the UN stands we could lose any time. I think we shouldn't wait that long.

Alright, Tanks then. 4 Transports full of them and the MI army- and remember, PTW transports can hold 8 units, so we can have about 28 Tanks go after Thebes.

I sent 3 Transports, we don't have 28 Tanks total, and I am using some as our barrier against the Greeks. Besides, I don't want to wait until we get enough built, and I also don't trust the Greeks. Our entire offensive punch overseas is too risky. I have finished my turns, just need to do some housekeeping. I'll try to get things posted today.

Done playing. Things went okay, we haven't lost to a UN vote and the task force is on the way. Here is the turn-log:
Spoiler :

Pre-flight: CivAssist 2, Word running. Get the save loaded. Look things over.
Lower Lux slider to 40%, hire 2 clowns in Antioch, should be okay. Move a stack of tanks to Birmingham. Change a taxman to geek in Persepolis. Switch Antioch to a transport.

IBT: Aztecs steal our Dyes with Tlatelco, also settling Ixtapaluca. Jerks!
Greeks Battleship kills one of ours, with nary a scratch.
Persepolis Tank=>Tank.
Pasargadae Research Lab=>Tank.
Antioch riots due to loss of our Dyes.

Turn 1, 1862 AD: Redline 2 Mech Infantry guarding Birmingham, kill them with Tanks. 16 gold taken, raze the town.
Just checking, Greece will give us 1000 gold for peace. I will seriously consider that, as it will allow operation “Kill the UN”. I will burn Coventry first while I build the transports necessary.

IBT: Aztecs boot us from their stolen property. They then ally against us with the Greeks. Their new towns are toast.
Greeks slip through and kill a couple slaves.
Pasargadae Tank=>Tank.
Arbela Research Lab=>Tank.
Antioch Transport=>Transport.
We lose the Coal and Incense, so much for our slight boost from war happiness.

Turn 2, 1864AD: It takes our entire bomber stack to redline 4 Aztec units and the Greek Mech Infantry that got through.
Kill the Greek MI.
Our 2 *Elite tanks redline but win, destroy Ixtapaluca for 17 gold.
2 Veterans do better, destroy Tlalmanalco.
Trade RoP, Ivory, and 215 gold for Incense with our “friends” the Mongols.

IBT: Greeks send in 3 MIs, kill an MI and Tank at Coventry.
Persepolis Mech Infantry=>Tank.
Pasargadae Tank=>Tank.
Antioch Worker=>Destroyer.

Turn 3, 1866AD: All of our artillery manages to remove 3 hp.
Lose 1 Tank, kill 3 MI and a Tank, razing Coventry for 5 gold.
Raise tech slider to 60%, we need Modern Armor! Lower lux to 30%, thanks Monte.

IBT: 1 Greek Tank kills 2 MIs guarding new forward airbase. BS!
Other units fare better, Greeks lose several Tanks and MIs elsewhere.
Pasargadae Tank=>Tank.
Arbela Tank=>Tank.

Turn 4, 1868 AD: Bombard 3 of the Greek silks and start clearing radar towers around Warwick.
Redline and kill Tank in killzone.

IBT: No direct attacks this turn. Pollution near Persepolis.
Persepolis Mech Infantry=>Mech Infantry.
Pasargadae Tank=>Tank.

Turn 5, 1870 AD: Destroy last radar tower around Warwick, also taking out last Greek Silks tile. Lose 1 Bomber to a Jet Fighter.
Pull 6 workers off of blockade duty to clear the pollution.
Troops positioned to take Warwick out next turn, I will then make peace.

IBT: Counterattack at Norwich takes out 4 of 7 Tanks, after redlining the MI on top, that hurt us bad. Now we are short on tanks.
Pasargadae Tank=>Tank.
Arbela Tank=>Tank.
Antioch Carrier=>Transport.
Wines and Furs deal ends. Trade our Saltpeter to them to renew.

Turn 6, 1872 AD: Lose 2 more Tanks, red line 2 others. Warwick razed, 1 slave taken. Kill 2 MIs and one Tank in killzone.
All I can get for peace is 370 gold and their WM….I’ll take it.
I think we need to stop this warring so we can research, we are running out of time.
I think destroy Thebes and we can make peace with Egypt too.
Immediately rebuild barricade surrounding no-mans land, barring 3 spots.
We can cover some of those with artillery soon.
Ending the Greek war allows me to lower Lux to 0% and puts us slightly in the black….nice.

IBT: Alex boots our troops left inside their borders.
While we are in contact, I trade Ivory for Coal and Saltpeter, that should keep the peace for awhile.
Persepolis Persepolis Mech Infantry=>Tank.
Susa Carrier=>Tank.
Pollution near Pasargadae delays Tank build.

Turn 7, 1874 AD: Raise tech slider to 100%, we have to get researching.
I filled all the gaps in our blockade and made sure there are no areas with fog to breed barbarians. Otherwise, get ready to send our navy out.

IBT: Alex warns us, I thought I had everyone out.
Pasargadae Tank=>Tank.
Arbela Tank=>Tank.
Antioch Transport=>Tank.

Turn 8, 1876 AD: Begin loading ships, I can add new units for 2 more turns as they begin the slow trip (Carriers have 4 moves in PTW)

IBT: We lose Wines, Egyptians must have bombed them.
Persepolis Tank=>Tank.
Pasargadae Tank=>Tank.
Susa Tank=>Tank.

Turn 9, 1878 AD: Load some more troops.
Open a gap for Egyptians, maybe they want to donate some slaves to us.

IBT: Greeks waste no time settling a town near our Silks. This cycle seems to never end. Egypt lands a Settler guarded by a conscript Infantry.
Pasargadae Tank=>Tank.
Arbela Tank=>Tank.
Pollution near Susa.
Pollution near Antioch.
Antioch Tank=>Tank.

Turn 10, 1880 AD: Bomb the Egyptian Infantry, kill with a tank. Thanks for the free slaves, Cleo!
Load as many units as can be spared for operation UN Burns, and move them out.

The save:

Got it. I'll play, and hopefully the UN will be gone when I'm done.

As to the techs, I'm not sure stealing Nuclear Power is necessary, but stealing Space Flight sounds like a pretty good idea. It gives SS parts and nukes.

Speaking of nukes, I certainly hope Egypt has none when we get there, or the invasion force is screwed.

Don't worry, they won't nuke their own territory. They also need Manhattan Project built and Space Flight to build tactical nukes. Nuclear Power in itself isn't important, but it does lead to other SS parts and it isn't optional. We do want Synthetic Fibers first, so the steal of Space Flight should be the one we do. We can shut research down to single scientist to get enough money to steal Nucear Power after we finish Synthetic Fibers. And who knows, someone else may research what we need. I think a mix of research and theft will get us to victory, if we play our cards right.

This game has definitely turned around in the last couple of turnsets. Assuming we can raze Thebes before a vote is called, I think we can cruise on to space in another few turnsets.

They built Manhattan in Alexandria a while ago.

But, I guess you're right, the AI won't nuke its own territory.

K, I'm done. Operation Destroy the UN Status Report: Epic Fail. We didn't have enough Tanks and Bombers.

Meanwhile, Mongolia's arse is being handed to them. They've now lost 3 more cities, and Ulaanbaatar has a Stack of Doom somewhere in the vicinity.

I've failed to steal Space Flight from the Aztecs. The head of the Inteligence Agency is SOOOO fired.

Pre-Turn (1880 AD):
-I attempt to plant a spy with the Aztecs, and fail. Looks like we won’t be getting Space Flight for a little while.

IBT:
-Aztecs and Mongols MA against Greece- Aztecs declare war on Greece.
-Mongolia asks to renew our peace treaty, we say yes.
-Persepolis: Tank->Tank
-Pasargadae: Tank->Tank

Turn 1 (1882 AD):
-Why is there unnoticed pollution near Susa? I send workers to clean it up.
-Set sci down to 90, Synthetic Fibers still in 4.

IBT:
-The Damn Greeks build Halicarnassus, forcing our blockade further back.
-Pasargadae: Tank->Tank
-Susa: Tank->Tank
-Arbela: Tank->Tank
-Antioch: Tank->Tank

Turn 2 (1884 AD):
Zzz

IBT:
-Aztec ships appear on the west coast.
-I now decide we have enough Tanks, so…
-Persepolis: Tank->Battlefield Medicine
-Pasargadae: Tank->Heroic Epic, to be completed in 2 turns

Turn 3 (1886 AD):
-Greece has Synthetic Fibers… :scared: Oh well, this bumps the time we need to complete it down to 1 turn, and it’s still finished in 1 turn all the way down at 50% Science. :lol:

IBT:
-Egypt requests an audience. No one really knows what happened to their envoy.
-They proceed to capture the Mongolian city of Dalandzadgad. I fear for Mongolia.
-We finish research on Synthetic Fibers. Following someone’s suggestion, I set research to single-scientist, on Nuclear Power.
-Antioch: MA->Research Lab

Turn 4 (1888 AD):
-I mass upgrade some Tanks to Modern Armor.
-Our invasion force has reached its destination, ahead of the Carriers. Thebes will be reached in 2 turns. I unload them, and hope for the best.
-Attempt to bomb and destroy an Egyptian Radar Tower. I destroy the road and railroad, but fail to destroy the Tower. I also lose a Jet Fighter to an Egyptian Fighter.
-I Plant a spy with the Aztecs. I then try to steal Space Flight, and fail, our spy is caught.

IBT:
-Susa: MA->Research Lab
-Arbela: MA->Bomber

Turn 5 (1890 AD):
-Bomb an Egyptian Radar Tower out of existence, losing a Jet Fighter in the process.

IBT:
-Something bombards our MI army.
-A crapload of Egyptian units head towards Ulaanbaatar.
-Greece builds Gortyn, forcing our blockade back again.
-Pasargadae: Heroic Epic->Mass Transit System
-Antioch: Research Lab->Mass Transit System

Turn 6 (1892 AD):
-Thebes is bombed, with little to no effect. 
-10 Tanks are lost to the MI, and they have about 8 defenders. Crap. This is suicide.
-I keep the units already there there, protected by the MI army, but send the ships back to get some Modern Armor.

IBT:
-Egypt’s stack near Ulaanbaatar turns around. Somehow, I don’t think they like our troops very much.
-Susa: Research Lab->Mass Transit System.
-Arbela: Bomber->Bomber

Turn 7 (1894 AD):
-I decide maybe having our units retreat would be a good idea.

IBT:
-Egypt’s stack turns back around and heads to Ulaanbaatar. :hmm:
-Mongolia asks for an MPP. No.
-Pasargadae: Mass Transit System->Bomber

Turn 8 (1896 AD):
-Plant a spy with the Aztecs, we don’t yet have enough money to steal though.
-Load our units on the transport, tell them to run away!!!

IBT:
-Egypt’s stack near Ulaanbaatar heads North instead of attacking. The AI confuses me sometimes.
-Greece says get out or declare war. I don’t know what he’s talking about, but decide leaving would be a good idea.
-Persepolis: Battlefield Medicine->Research Lab
-Pasargadae: Bomber->Bomber
-Arbela: Bomber->Carrier
-Antioch: Mass Transit System->Commercial Dock
-Global Warming turns some forest to the southeast of Persepolis into grassland, don’t care.

Turn 9 (1898 AD):
Zzz

IBT:
-Egypt bombards our carriers with artillery, a lot. I also watch as their stack of doom attacks and burns Ta-Tu.
-Pasargadae: Bomber->Bomber

Turn 10 (1900 AD):
-When Bombing Egypt, I shoot down a fighter.
-Sink an Aztec Frigate.

Here be where our Carriers are:
Spoiler :
hawk03carriersat3.jpg

They're being guarded by a battleship, and the ships are constantly being bombarded by Egypt's artillery.

I keep them there to try to bomb Thebes down a lot, and to try to wreak havoc on Egypt's roads and railroads.

I have a bunch of Modern Armor fortified by Pasargadae. When the transports get back, upgrade the Tanks they're sending back to MA's, and send them and all these MA's back over to Thebes to try again. This time, I reccomend another transport full of MA's, and another Carrier full of Bombers or two.

Keep Pasargadae Building Bombers, it can do them in one turn whereas it can't do MA's in one turn. As to the other cities, build either ships or MA's.

We'll have enough gold to steal Space Flight next turn. I reccomend we make peace with the Aztecs and get them at war with Egypt, we need all the help we can get.

Egypt: War, they have Nuclear Power, we have Rocketry and Ecology. They'll pay up to 52gpt for peace.

Why are we rebuilding so many of the rails I pillaged? I cleared out all those squares to avoid giving Greece free run of the continent when their culture expansions push our blockade back.

My plans:

1. Bomb the Egyptian Wines.
2. Bomb Thebes' BFC to starve down the city.
3. Load up a bunch of MA on the transports and send 'em back at Thebes.
4. Pillage a wide swath along the Greek border to help slow their southern expansion. I'll leave a few key routes for us to use for when we go to war with them again.

What do you guys think?
