You say that as though the concept of states with borders determined by ethnic-nationalistic masturbation make any sense in and of themselves.
It's the former Soviet Union we're talking about. Assuming ethno-nationalistic masturbation is mandatory.

And they call me a utopian... :mischief:
Not going to get into an argument about whether civic nationalism actually exists and is relevant, though I obviously think that it is, but he did ask for a concept. A rather startling memory lapse on his part, since he is supposedly into the Soviet Union.

(For the record, I do think that civic nationalism exists and is relevant, I just think that there's usually some arsehole who will end up ethnicising it one way or the other. But mostly I just wanted to make a snide remark. :mischief:)

Guilty as charged. I blame eight pints of Guinness, 15 hours of work, a long car ride home, and being up way past my bed time.

Are there any (known) direct descendants of the ancient Pharaohs of Egypt?

Confucius? We could (theoretically) work it out from the dna we have, could we not? Of course, it would take a tremendous amount of luck in finding someone who happened to be a descendant.

I suppose if Confucius was a chick.

Yeah, that's exactly how I figured it.

There's a good probability that everyone on Earth is descended from Confucius. The family tree project seems to be interested primarily in the Kong lineage, but when you take into account lines that pass through female descendants, it would be much, much larger.

Confucius didn't live anywhere near long-enough ago for that to happen.
