On BTS8 Beta gauntlet turned up that on BTS you cant selfvote anymore without artificial twiddling. Can this either changed:
1) impossible
2) changed back that its allowed as before
3) add warning message that voting is coming so that I dont have to manually count when it is coming and bump myself over the self vote edge.

Id really like selfvote allowed for it would be same in vanilla/warlords and at least if you can go around it with artificial means its stupid and has nothing to do with playing skill (oh yes you have to stay on the edge long enough but thats hardly a problem in diplomatic game (religion: do not spread to all cities, both: check no growth for many cities, gift city and capture it back in few rounds)

I agree that in a way its stupid that you can win diplomatically with own votes but you have to have quite high pop% to get it. Still you can be seen the rightful ruler for majority of people.

We will take this under advisement. I can't promise anything without a much better understanding of how the code works.

Today I made the mistake to toggle the language to "German" in Map-Finder. The translation was so bad that I decided to walk through the file and adjust the translations. Please take the attached file, remove the .txt. extension and replace it - the current translation is really bad

I would like to pay back some of my debt with you.

So I have taken HolyHandGrenade files and improved the Spanish texts. Is there anything else I can do for you or for the staff?
Guys, I hate to tell you this but I think that the language selection only works in the original VB 6.0 version. When I converted to VB .NET, I took out that option.

I thank you for your efforts but I hadn't planned to put it back without overwhelming demand. (I left columns in the MF_Text.dat file because the Python would have to be changed at the same time to take it out. MF_VB_Text.dat is not used anymore at all.)

The best reward for our efforts is to play the game and enjoy. And submit lots of #1 games... :goodjob:

It's fine for me - I anyway prefer the english version. So no more efforts for me here

Oh, I will, don't worry about that.

Are you sure? I am seeing Spanish words that need improving (look at the pics).

By the way, I have just seen that accents are not well handled by the program, so they should be moved into normal vowels in the files. May I do that?

The text for the first screen pic is in 'MoreCiv4lertsTextInfos.xml'. For the second, I am guessing that the language text from MF_Text.Dat file is used by the python part of Map Finder to write the resource info text file. That's why I couldn't find any code in the VB .net program.

Okay, I will put the MF_Text.Dat file you guys fixed into the next version of the VB .Net I put out.

Hello,

I have BTS installed and have modes 1.74.001, 1.74.002, and 3.13.001 installed as well. I haven't played civ 4 for a long time and I would like to watch some fresh replays to catch up with new playing styles.

Unfortunately, I can't view the GOTM24 winner's save on my pc. The error I get: "The save file you are trying to display is protected to ensure that the assets in your mod folder have not been changed."

What am I missing?

Recent GOTMs had to tread a treacherous path between the various versions that Firaxis put out during the release and update of Beyond the Sword. Beyond the Sword 3.13 upgraded the vanilla and Warlords files as well as installing the BtS files.

Current games that use HOF-1.74.002 will be compatible with the latest BtS 3.13 files, but earlier games used the older file sets

To load up a save from any GOTM that used HOF-1.74.001 you need to downgrade your vanilla installation by putting back the pre-BtS 3.13 copy of ...\Sid Meier's Civilization 4\Assets\CvGameCoreDLL.dll.

To load up a save from any WOTM that used HOF-2.13.001 you must revert the vanilla .dll as above, but you also need to put back the pre-BtS 3.13 copy of ...\Sid Meier's Civilization 4\Warlords\Assets\CvGameCoreDLL.dll.

Alright, at least that is a quick and reliable answer =) If you have any new information regarding doing these downgrades without having to uninstall and reinstall BTS, I am sure you will let the forums know.

The event log is great anyway, I won't reinstall for now. Civfanatics staff so awesome... =)

A tip that may be easier:

Before you uninstall BtS, copy the two DLLs above into a safe place. Then uninstall BtS, hopefully this will change the DLLs back to their pre-BtS state. Copy the two DLLs again, into another safe place.

Now you can swap the DLLs back and forth to switch. If you are into scripting, you could even make a script that would switch the files for you.

Meanwhile, I'm working on enhancing the event log that's provided in the results pages to further reduce the need to load the saves. Watch this space.

I'm looking at a HOF game "General Log" and "Player Log" via Firefox. However, the person that played the game used a language I don't understand, so the "General Log" and "Player Log" are hard to read. I tried using BabelFish, but the translation isn't very good and all the end of line sequences are missing so the result is a single huge line.

It seems that these logs should be coded by message number and given the reader's native language, the renderer should be able to translate the message to reader's language, regardless of the language used by the player of the game. Is this correct, or is some other internationalization/localization (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Internationalization_and_localization#Methods ) method used?

Does anyone have suggestions on how I can easily read/translate the "General Log" and "Player Log" of a HOF game that was played in a non-English language into English?

Thanks,

Sun Tzu Wu

It appears that the log is written into the save file in the display language in the game as you have observed. Nothing we can do on our end wouldn't be more effort than it is worth. Sorry.

OK. Thus, the only recourse would be end-user translation of the text. The following sequence should work quite well:

1) Web browser save of each log file
2) Idiom translation of each save file
3) Web browser load of each translated file

Step #2 would be unique for each source language and target language pair. What makes this step easier is only a small number of very similar sentences are used in either log. Also, for the same reason, the translation doesn't have to be perfect, just readable in the target language. For example, the place names would not have to be translated, since they are often recognizable in both languages by readers of either language.

Unless, someone has a better idea, I'll try to implement the above idiom translation step for Spanish to English.

Denniz, thanks for checking it out!

I have the same problem (and I suspect for the same game;) )

The real question I had was: I just went on HoF page and saw that there is now a religious victory column. Does that mean BtS is now out of Beta?

We are getting close. We have been sneaking in little changes here and there getting ready. :)

I saw that religious row a few days ago, and just tonight, I saw the new Expansion pop up window. It didn't take long for you to implement and expand on my suggestion.

Thank you!:)

P.S. Any idea on when BTS will come out of Beta? You seem prepared for the big event!

I noticed both the Religious and Expansion additions recently, and have been using them to check some scores. I really like having those available! It's a very welcome and much needed addition. Thank you for your hard work, dudes!

I have reasons to believe that that player has changed his game language to English. As far as that particular game is concerned, just ask him.

The only thing I really missed was that Spanish doesn't say the type of Great Person that is born, just the name of them (unlike English). However, I doubt that even knowing the language would help without the lists of GP names, so you're in the same position as I am.
