How do you pronounce usernames?

I thought the "Kh" would be pronounced like the "kh " in Khan or Khorasan- rougher than an h but not as rough as Scottish "loch".

It's a Daedric name, so you can make it sound as wheezy and harsh as you like. :)

Arakhor -> air - ack - or

That, on the other hand, makes me sound Australian!

I pronounce my username something like awn-TEE-law-jick or aun-TEE-law-jick. Emphasis on the second, short 'a' sound.

What happened to an-tee-loh-jic, exactly how it's spelt?

Well, except for the 'a' at the beginning, it's pretty close. I was trying to use fake phonetics, probably messed more people up than I needed to. Offline, I notice that a lot of people would pronounce the first syllable as ant or aan (long 'a' sound), for this and other names like it (like Andrew, Andrea, etc.) and I use a shorter 'a' that almost sounds like the aun part of aunt.

Aaahndrew sounds ridiculous, but Aahndrea just sounds foreign. I don't know how it's pronounced in Greece.

Is that how you pronounce "Khan"?

Sort of. The Mongolian "kh" sounds almost like an h, but sometimes "kh" is sort of like the German "ch". At least, if I've been pronouncing said German diphthong correctly.

Takhisis -> tak-EE-siss
Borachio -> buh-RAY-kyeuh
rugbyLEAGUEfan -> rug-beah-LEUHG-fan

There's no love for me anywhere. :(

My people fought a long, bloody war for the right to drop the 'e' from my name! :mischief:

But I want to think of you as below! :(

Lies and slander, Im sure that final h changes the pronounciation.

This thread is useless without IPA.

Also the person my username is based on is pronounced

Owain Glyn dŵr = o.wɑin glɪn dur

However I anglicized the first name as my parents opted to anglicize my name, so hence you can pronounce it in the English manner

Owen = o.wɛn

I also generally just go by the first name so that works too.

Other peoples'

Dachs = daχs, although sometimes when I'm talking in English quickly (as the uvular trill is generally not used ever in English) I'll revert to the classic(ly wrong) /daks/ which a lot of people use, or sometimes I'll just heavily aspirate the /a/ and remove the second stop altogether. I also sometimes really heavily front the /a/ when I'm being weird or jokey, and I tend to really nasalize my fronted vowels so that's /dæ̃ks/

madviking. I rarely call madviking by that username. I call him by his nickname on IRC, which for political correctness' sake I won't reproduce here. On the forums I'll occasionally call him by the euphamized version of his name, but that is excessively long and would probably just result in me spending the next hour and a half repeating it to myself over and over again to get the vowels right in the IPA version of it so I won't do that either. I also call him Ron occasionally, so that's /ran/

tailesskangaru = ti.keɪ or teɪ.lɪs

Takhisis -> ta.kə.sɪs
Borachio -> bɔr.a.tʃi.oʊ
rugbyLEAGUEfan -> rʌʌʌʌʌʌʌg.bi.lik.fæ̃n
hobbsyoyo -> hɑbs.joʊ.joʊ
Virote_Considon -> vər.oʊt (don't bother with the second part of your name)
Mise -> mɑɪz (Don't ask me why I mispronounce it, I've just always done it that way)
Synsensa -> sɪn.zɛn.zə
Quackers -> kwæ̃.kərz
Ziggy Stardust -> zɪ.gi
cardgame -> kɑrd.geɪm
Zelig -> zi.lɪg
Antilogic -> æ̃n.ti.lɑɑɑɑɑa.d͡ʒʒʒʒʒʒʒʒɪɪk
Leoreth -> li.oʊ.ɹɛθ
Crezth -> krɛzθ

Also god damn forums are letting me down with this whole not being able to type certain symbols.

Ones that didn't go through:
rugbyleaguefan - there is supposed to be an open mid-back unrounded vowel between the r and the g
Antilogic - the d is supposed to be a voiced postalveolar affricate followed by a near-close near-front unrounded vowel.

I've always wondered how people pronounce my username. I pronounce it thus:

/sai.bɹiks.kan/

For those people who don't know IPA: sai-bricks-khan

If I'm feeling sophisticated:

/sai.bɽiks.xan/

The <r> would be similar to a Scottish one, not as rolled, and the <kh> would be like the German <ch>.

I associate y'all with avatars more than names. For the most part, pronunciation doesn't enter my head. A few exceptions....

synsensa = synaesthesia

Yep.

Owen Glyndwr is "Owen Glider"

I'm apparently a very lazy reader.
