How is everything not collapsing in the US?

if only people knew how impatiently "it" is awaited . Trump declining to prove the mighty greatness of America with a solution to the coronavirus in seconds and yet bubbling and babbling about kinin , which was just one article among many others on the papers laid on his desk . Mere mundane stuff like 6 or 7 hundred thousands dead people matter nothing . With the ever believing always present New Turkey will not even bother to deny the claim that maybe 40 000 tests are conducted per day in the country and maybe 14 or 15 thousands of them are applied to the palace . 5 000 working directly in the building , reaching up to 42 000 with the supply chain and everybody will be tested every 3 days . And you know , America #2 is nowhere near that , but will work hard to #1 in that , too .

edit : Sorry , ı didn't see the thing about youtube videos . The boys from Langley would tell you , if you were on the proper classification level , ı tend to annoy people with tales of how ı refuse to influence the Star Wars franchise , because ı love this buzz of waiting for the movies to come , was '83 when ı saw the Empire .

What a stupid thread. We'll continue being #1 while the haters keep on hating. Every other country tries to hide their problems because they have a sad inferiority complex. We are the only country on the planet that airs our dirty laundry and puts our own flaws and faults on a microphone for the world to see and judge. Most of you outside the US live in countries with a smaller economy than California, Google, Microsoft or Amazon, who represent a small fraction of the US. Chew on that for a second.
It is the language barrier I would say that "hide" other countries problems, for example Sweden is critized heavily in pretty much every area but most of the criticism is written in Swedish. US also as a big and important country is generally going to draw alot more attention than smaller countries.

The money is only worth how much You believe it to be worth ...
Sure, but taxation (hard) and contracts (second tier hard) already bind money to "having real value".

iirc gdp dropped by like 33%, grand depression #s. How come people are still getting lattes and pizzas and watching Netflix and not dying?

Even before this crisis, basically my whole life since I understood what global warming was I've had this uncomfortable feeling that everything is fake and fragile and held together by collective belief and sacrifice of the future.

But maybe I'm wrong like libertarians think and everything will keep improving and somehow we'll solve our problems in the nick of time like every action movie.
In my opinion, only the $600 per week extra in unemployment benefits from the Federal Government is what kept the grand depression from starting.

Those benefits expired July 31st (3 days) ago, so now we can get the 2nd Great Depression started for realz.

The two parties failed to reach a compromise on several issues, including the extra $600 a week in unemployment benefits that jobless Americans have been receiving under the $2 trillion CARES Act, causing it to expire entirely on Friday.

As a result, 30 million unemployed Americans received $600 less in benefits this past weekend.

Regular people just took an $18 billion per week paycut.

Something like 1/3rd of them have had credit cards canceled or credit lines reduced to get ready for this.

If you suddenly found out your available credit has dropped or a card has been canceled recently, you have lots of company.

An estimated 70 million people have had their spending limits slashed on a credit card or their account canceled without warning by a card issuer in the past 60 days, according to a new survey by the credit cards division of LendingTree.

This is art. This should be in a museum.

Show me the facts that show I am wrong lol. You can't. Certain other countries stopped reporting positive cases that were asymptomatic... I wonder why they think they need to hide the truth?

Haters gonna hate.

Haters gonna hate.

Yep. No refutation to the sad fact that certain other countries have simply given up testing to make the problem disappear. America, by contrast, has meticulously tracked every single case so that the public is aware and well-informed of the danger. And we don't even have an all-powerful communist father like Xi to tell us what to do!

You go, dude.

I would much rather live outside of the US banana republic, thank you.

You think the US has meticulously tracked every single case of Covid-19? What are you smoking cuz I want some

Late to this particular party, but much of the country has been stagnating/declining for years. We tolerate 3rd world poverty but it's hidden in isolated "inner city" neighborhoods and rural areas.

Oh dang

You can't deny any of the facts that I posted. Try denying one. Sadly you must resort to ad hominem attacks, because all you have are emotions and ideology and no logic or facts on your side.

The only fact in your statement was that most of us live in countries with smaller GDP than the US. The rest was nonsense.
My remark was a joke playing on the UK stereotype of Texans being obsessed with size.

There certainly is a country that is "#1" in people declaring bankruptcy over medical debt, percentage of its citizens in gaol, numbers of democratically disenfranchised ex-felons or even cases of Covid19, despite being supposedly so well-informed of the dangers, but if I lived in such a country, I certainly wouldn't be loudly proclaiming my nation's supremacy for all to hear.

It depends indeed on what your yardstick is.

As context... I do really love football... and sitting in a pub watching together can be great... and I was in 1988 in Munich for the EC final and our Dutch team winning...
but

I have never really understood why so many of our Dutch worker class people did spend relative fortunes at attending football matches of their club, including all the pub cost, including travelling throughout Europe for many of them just to be there.... their personal badges of honor "I was there" from the tribe... at the expense of the already modest or even poor prosperity of their families.
And their heroes ?
Enormously overpaid football players cheered by (in my country) exactly the same people who feel victim of the rich with many of them voting on leftish parties to "arrange" that more equality.
But somehow this all never applies to their heroes.
And when some oligarch money launderer, or oligarch betting criminal is needed to fill up the deficits... nothing else really matters

Is that all for that feeling of being "#1" ?
That this #1 feeling transfers to yourself because it is your club, your hero.... your tribe ?

How "poor" are we when this #1 addiction is that badly needed ?

On the contrary, a second Great Depression might be good for the US. I mean we came out of the last one stronger than ever. No reason we can't do the same with this one.
