How is your EU3 Game going?

Vijayanagar, 1445: four provinces, two wars and five cores from forming Hindustan.

And a screenshot I may just have to post over at PI in the Strange Screenshots thread.

Also, does base tax grow over time, and how do I compete economically?

WIM's right, it won't change unless you get a bump through events (grain-producing provinces can get an agricultural revolution, that's the most common one I see). However, your actual tax rate can be increased by centralizing your government, getting a collector advisor (usually not worth it unless you have a big empire), building production-type buildings like constables, workshops, etc., decisions, and other things like that.

I usually send my merchants to centers where I have the best chance of competing, which are not necessarily the richest centers. Given the limited number of slots and the fact that Lubeck and Venezia are usually rich though crowded, you might not be able to extract the cost of your merchant before he is eliminated by some other power.

The ledger has a way you can sort centers by compete chance, which can be improved by national ideas, advisors, sliders, etc.

what happened in the second screenshot is because the rebels are friendly to you (nationalists/patriots incited by you or patriots of your culture wanting to give land to you)

Not bad for my skills. Austria is in PU with Poland. Beaten Austria like twice already (conquered more than half of his territory). The Pope and few small nations around him (- sicily who joins in every war I declare on opposite side) are my vassals.

technically, all the weird stuff in that screenie:
Dat Serbia.
No "Castillian Africa" on the map.
No Trollhemia.
Dat Pommerania.
Savoy, y u no care about us?
Aldjazair.
Scots pretty much the same.
No Granada.

Serb's gonna Serb that Balkans.

Balkans leadership so far:
Croatia -> ryzan -> Albania -> serbs ->Aquelia

No "Castillian Africa" on the map.
Castille lost a large stack or few fighting Mamluks, I think they lost most of their stacks (like 30+ units) when attacking mamluks in one of the mountainous provinces and leftover got nuked when their ships were sunk by someone (they went from 20 transports down to 3 in castillian 3rd crusade of Mamluks). So, they got mass war exh. and a lot of their provinces revolted.

I mostly own Richer Algeris lands + a few provinces from Portugal and Aragon from the Wars they declare on me and free cores I got on those provinces.

No Trollhemia.
Having "Holy" Father as my vassal has proven useful, Burgundy, Austria and Bohemia have been excommunicated as often as possible. Burgundy died after I retook all of my 'core' provinces (after 'conquer Ille-de-france' mission).

Dat Pommerania.
Dat be normal Pomeranian for most of my games.

Savoy, y u no care about us?
Savoy grew from 2 province minor to what it is now in recent 20 years.

Scots pretty much the same.
Tried to get conquer the scotland mission for first 40 years into the game, before I learned that DW patch 5.1 changed it and can't get that mission before 1600'reds. Vassaled scots after that and been trying to diplo-annex them, but not having much luck.

(and Riga)
I'm always amazed when AI does this, Pommernadia+Sweden teamed up and kicked some teotonic butt. Riga joined later with no casus belli and claimed most of teotonic lands.

---------
1467, after defeating Austria - forcing it to release (i think) Ukraine, who then got swarmed with transylvanian rebels.

I'm playing as the Manchu's now. It's rather difficult due to my distance from other Centers of Trade and the Ming like to play games with my merchants by denying and allowing access every so often. I mitigated this by saving enough to build my own center of trade which offsets the Ming's bi-polarism. I'm keeping up with the Ming though, fortunately, with the hope that they'll eventually collapse. However they seem to be extremely resilient as they normally have around -2 stability and their inflation is going through the roof too at 38 so it should be a matter of time as I have seen more and more rebellions occur in the country. Muscowy is expanding at a tremendous rate and already are bordering my northern border, of course some gifts to them are in order. Right now I'm just positioning my armies on the Ming border in the event their troop levels drop below mine and/or a full scale national rebellion takes hold.

Which reminds me, Muscowy is right next door. Maybe I could use this opportunity to Westernize.

i have a rather interesting malaya game, no pic yet, it's 1442.
Intereshting stuff:
Vija in a position to form Hindustan
Timurids and everyone recovered from the ugly Iran Syndrome, only two countries: Persia and Timmies.
Tver the driving force in Russia (!)
Sweden in Sweden restricted to Stockholm
Creek and Shawnee decided on nice borders for a change.

If you have to confront Vijayanagar, make sure to have SE Asia as your vassal allies, and keep to Taungu's or Tibet's mountains to destroy their armies.

My Malaya game has me controlling all of SE Asia, India (up to Durrani, and minus one province in the East which is controlled by Holland) and Tibet as vassals, as well as Taiwan, Hainan, Southern Korea, the Greater Sunda islands, Ceylon and the Maldives. :smug:

What happens in the second screenshot isn't that rare. :p
See below

Oh no it's not. I'm pretty sure they both popped up in my provinces

It'll be easy to make SE Asia my vassal, what with all the Guarantees.
But I must make sure that the Ming don't.
(I have tons of regiments. But Only 21 in SE Asia Mainland, a few in Brunei, some in Atjeh, 9 on Java and 2 on Sumbawa. My navy can carry 6 a time.)

Exactly. You want to vassalize them before Ming do. Also, in my Brunei --> Malaya game, I have a total of 32 land units, I had about 20 when in the middle of vassalizing India, 10 before I vassalized Taungu, and 2 before I attacked Aceh. :p
