someone teach me how to inherit other nations thrones?

http://www.paradoxian.org/eu3wiki/Claim_throne

http://www.paradoxian.org/eu3wiki/Personal_union

With regards to my inheritance of both Castille and Aragon, I did this by claiming the throne of Aragon, getting Castille to help me force a PU on Aragon (I DoWed them taking 1 stab hit for having a RM, Castille joined on my side so the war was easy enough) and then after Aragon was my junior partner, I allied myself with it and claimed the throne of Castille and backstabbed them with the help of Aragon (taking yet another stab hit, the war also wasn't too difficult as Castille was dealing with Granada and we outnumbered them).

Beware that it will drop your stability immensely, give you an huge penalty to stability and for you to get rid of the westernisation process penalties you'll either have to delay westernisation or go through with the military modernisation which will require a leader with 7 administrative, full stability and -3 centralisation.

The amount of centralization actually depends on what step of westernization it is. It's -3 for Muslim, -4 for Eastern, and -5 for Western. But otherwise, yeah.

And good advice with stop looking at the sky. Sometimes things just don't go well, and I'm afraid, Heretic_Cata, that you must have been looking at the sky too much.

The Hordes' strength depends in no small part on how often they have succession crises. The Timurids probably got unlucky and got a bunch of them in your Spanish game. But when they aren't having succession crises, they can be a force to be reckoned with. Keep an eye out for the Golden Horde expanding south towards you as well.

update on my Dai Viet game. I got a little bigger when I start to colonize Philippine. Damn europeans using spies to ruin my colonies. >_> I just finished my first Westernize step so it is going to take a while. China Wu got smaller thanks to my meddlings, and now Ming gain back their power. WTH. I have to say European powers are very annoying(now I understood how minors back in the days feel about Europeans). They keep attacking my vassal Sri Lanka. Also lol at Indian Delhi make a verticle empire.

I think any tech counts for that, if you're 15 on G/P/T/L/N and you border a country that's 20 on everything, you'll be 25 techs behind. When I'm not playing an European country I almost always ignore Naval as I won't be colonising much and so that helps with the westernisation process.
OooOOoooHhh i thought i was supposed to be 20 levels behind in EVERY tech tree. It makes much more sense now.
But i don't want to ignore naval just yet, i want to blockade ports. I'll ignore it after that.

First you need to westernise your tech level, only then you'll be able to westernise the military.

Hopefully i'll be a republic until then, that'll help a bit.
No! It always says that, it's always "if we annex, people won't be pleased" though that's nonsense, nobody ever cares and it won't affect you in the slightest!

If you had already attacked them and instead you vassalised them, that was an huge mistake, you got much more infamy that way and now you have a puny vassal which could be your land and that you'll never get to incorporate because it's another religion.

What you should do is wait till the truce ends and cancel vassalisation, annex them for only 2 infamy with the Holy War cb. And hurry, this needs to be done before 1650.
Done :D - you're right, nobody cared. Even tho their independence was guaranteed by Castille, Aragon & France and England was the defender of faith, nobody bothered to even declare war.
Yeah, them and the Golden Horde can mess you up.

Got raped from both sides last time they atacked. The Timurids in particular were dreadful since i was the only one they declared war on. They brought a 50+ stack of death into Asia Minor. O_O I gathered all my forces (only 35+) into one province for one last desperate attempt to stop them. Being on the defense and high on morale my forces seemed like they would WIN the fight, however the Timurids had reinforcements on the way, about 15+ from multiple stacks coming my way. The battle was lost and the Ottoman lands were now defenseless.
During all this fighting the Golden Horde in the north recaptured their lost Ukranian territories and conquered my Romanian lands. Needless to say i abandoned them, their only defense were the combined forces of Vallachia,Bosnia,Serbia and Ukranian nationalists. So nothing that could stop the hordes.
With news like this on the eve of the great defeat in Anatolia it was time to bow to the barbarians. Probably because they sustained heavy casualties in the fighting, i only had to release Moldavia and that's it. Peace  So i only lost 1 province in the end.
After this the Timurids turned their gaze to the Mamluks which deserve it for abandoning our alliance when i needed them the most. And the Golden Horde went back to fighting Ukranians and whatnot. So for a few years, they will not attack. In this peace time i annexed the rest of my anatolian lands since that was basically free.
Here is a pic from the fighting:

I tried to play as the Ottomans once. I didn't even last a century as almost all the western powers declared war on me for what seemed like no reason.

I second the :lmao:

 At the one guy.

The Hordes can be like that. When there's more than one bordering me like that, I try to balance it so I'm not at war with both at once. That way I can concentrate my forces at one and hopefully at worst have to concede defeat. But as you saw, 35,000 isn't enough to stop a strong Timurids by themselves. :(

Having fun in my Ottoman game.

The Golden Horde however managed to survive a wave of widespread rebellions, but from what i've seen they are no longer the major threat it once was.
As for the western powers, Castille is looming on the horizon as a major threat. I didn't have any real wars with the european powers, just declared ones, with no invasion. I'll be avoiding them since i have no interest in the west for now. Pic:

Oh and i finally managed to form a Personal Union WOO (with the Jalayrids-SP). Now i have to wait 50 years for annexation. Also, i really hate non-republic govs. My heir is ******** and has very low skills.

Don't you ever force integration, that will give you lots of infamy if it succeeds and it will lower relations with other PUs you might have and an huge penalty to relations if you fail.

All you need to do with PUs is form an alliance, keep your prestige very high, spam them with gifts till you have >190 relations and make sure you have more troops than they do (otherwise they'll flood you with insults to break free).

That way, once your king dies, you'll have a quite high chance of inheriting them for no infamy whatsoever and you'll also get instant cores if they're in the same culture group which you wouldn't get if you forced integration.

Just be patient and remember that you can't inherit them if they're at war (you can be at war though, it's fine if you DoW someone but don't call them in).
