How is your EU3 Game going?

It has been a while since I've actually played more than ten years outside MP, but here we go.

The year is 14...14...err, 1420s. Lets go with that. Michoacan.

Right off the bat, the Aztecs attacked me and through a combination of luck and knowing when to commit reserves, I got away from the war with a white peace. The Aztecs had two allies, I had two allies.

After a while, I finally completed an event for a 100 gold and I decided to go for broke and declared war on the Aztecs. We were militarily even, but their military tech was higher. However, the Aztecs commited their army north and eventually got caught in a meatgrinder. Mexico was occupied rapidly.

As war leader, I proceeded to beat down (with some help) the Aztecs two allies until they became vassals before finally annexing Aztecland.

Later on, I stabbed an ally and annexed it as well. After that, a few decades of economic hardship and constant revolts. However, the rebels were defeated and Mexico and Hu-whatever became core territories, skyrocketing (relatively) my income from -9 a year to +12 and, finally, +30 a year.

Counting the occasional tribute event, and discounting the occasional needing to send a large sum of money to a vassal, I finally worked my way up to a comfortable 500 gold. Another war later and three more tributary empires are brought into the fold. That leaves just one kingdom not part of my vassal empire (they're an ally).

Thanks to immediate war reparations, this war immediately paid off and despite spending 200 gold or so recruiting a new army, I'm now at 800 gold thanks to slave events, tribute, and war reparations.

Going to consolidate my holdings now and prepare to punch my somewhat ally in the mouth repeatedly.

Edit: It is now 1435. I went with the "From Aztecs" decision and, thanks to my latest war, now ports on the Gulf. I will begin construction on a Gulf fleet for the purpose of bringing certain Central Americans in line.

That's a mod I assume? Playing an American country in vanilla is one of the worst and most racist experiences EU3 has to offer.

I'm playing Death and Taxes (boo).

Not quite sure which version. Just that North American tribes don't exist for some reason.

So I'm thinking of starting up a game with the intention of just being a conquering warmonger. Anyone have any recommendations for which nation is good for this kind of game circa 1399? Playing Vanilla, I haven't had a chance to check out any mods :).

Avoid the HRE. I'd reccomend any of the big western countries (Castille, France, Burgundy, or England), Bohemia (see how fast you can reach the Pacific) or the Ottomans.

Somewhere (I think the like was posted in this thread) somebody played a game as Portugal where they conquered exclusively in a one province thick line to Korea and then back again along a different route.

Play as one of the Chinese minors:

Oh, whoops, didn't see the Vanilla. For some reason I just assume everybody plays D&T. Yeah I dunno; I haven't played Vanilla in a very, very long time.

I'll look up D & T and see if the changes seem like something I want :). Thanks peeps!

Got another quick question. Does the AI get to cheat on colonization or what? I spent like 70 years intensely focused on my colonization efforts in my most recent England game, I didn't go to any wars aside from the initial ones against Ireland and Scotland, I poured every resource into reaching the ability to colonize as early as possible. After a long boring game of sitting and waiting I finally managed to extend my reach far enough to hit the Bahamas and similar areas, and here comes Castille, casually dropping colonists on islands that I intended to get. Castille has NOT been focusing on the colonization game, in fact I'd be surprised if they've known peace for longer than a year or two at a stretch since the game started. How the hell did they get to the new world just a month or two after me? *shakes fist at Castille*

Not that I know of. Check his ideas: did he take Quest for the New World as a NI? He may also have modifiers in play in the form of Great Men of the Court. Also you are aware that as long as the colony hasn't been established (i.e. reached 1000 population) you can occupy and annex those colonies for free in a war, right? You don't even need to wait for the peace settlement to do it.

I did NOT know that, that is a very helpful hint, thanks! Should be able to take those almost uncontested with my large navy, as long as I pay attention he won't be able to get any ships close enough to land troops.

What happens if i am the emperor of HRE and switch to a republic ?

Play some mod instead.

The answer is always Byzantine though ;)

You can't, it's as if you were in a PU.
Gah, i will have a Holy Roman Republic at some point ! If i can get to the end of the reforms thing that is. Also, as soon as Protestantism appears i'm switching because i've never done that.

Yep, you can change into a republic once you unify the Empire.

Though going Protestant is just asking for rebel whack-a-mole.

the most damning thing about that picture's protestantism is the comic sans THE PAIN THE COMIC SANS
