Nice one, Nylan. Nice one ;)

I think as an atheist that the possibly best argument for the existence of a god or gods is the set of natural laws that govern us. Even Richard Dawkins has admitted that the way all the variables in the natural laws (for example gravity) are fine-tuned making life possible is a problem which requires explanation.

Winner, I normally don't quote Ted Haggard, but please, for the sake of atheism, don't be arrogant.
Although I do agree a bit...

Christ is but an Anglicized form of the Greek Χριστός ("anointed one") not a name. The name would have been Yehoshua.

Also, since pink is a description of something's visual appearance, an invisible pink unicorn is like a circular square.

I have an explanation for that. Why does a puddle of water in a hole think that the hole is "designed" for them? That kind of question does not even deserve an answer, as the universe was not built for us. We were designed by evolution to fit into this world. I admit that it is not a perfect answer, but I am willing to abide by it.

Magister! Good to see you here as well

I would also agree. Winner is such an obnoxious atheist that he makes all other atheists here seem like Christian fundamentalists in comparison...

Let's make an experiment:

If I told you now, with all honesty, that I really do believe in my invisible pink unicorn guardian which protects me from evil, would you take me seriously? Would you respect my faith? Would you admit there might really be such unicorn?

Or would you say: "Hey, you just made it up!"

If it's the latter, then you know what I think of religion: "hey, you made that up 2000 years ago - show me some evidence!"

Hint: the fact that some stupid superstition is old doesn't mean it's true. The fact that there are many books discussing the superstition doesn't mean it's true.

If you really believed in a pink unicorn, I'd ask you why? And then I'd judge your answer and see if it made logical sense or not. That doesn't mean you are right that one exists, but it also wouldn't mean that you are necessarily illogical either.

Believers may be wrong in their belief, but it doesn't mean they are illogical or delusional.

They are delusional. Believing in things which are not real is delusional, how clearer can I explain that?

The Free Dictionary said:
de·lu·sion (d-lzhn)
n.
1.
a. The act or process of deluding.
b. The state of being deluded.

2. A false belief or opinion: labored under the delusion that success was at hand.
3. Psychiatry: A false belief strongly held in spite of invalidating evidence, especially as a symptom of mental illness

Clear now?

---

Back to my dear unicorn guardian: why I believe in him is irrelevant, what matters is if he's real. If I believed in the unicorn (or should I write Unicorn? I don't want to be blasphemous! :scared: ), I'd probably have the same reasons as the other believers: he'd give me a sense that I am not alone, that somebody cares about me, that's somebody listens when I pray, that I'll be rewarded for doing certain things. It would really help me on an emotional level, just as Jesus helps other believers - emotionally.

But again, why should it matter what my reasons are? What matters is if the Unicorn is real or not. Conversely, it doesn't matter why people believe in Christianity, Islam or other nonsense, what matters is whether these things are real. And if they were real, there should be hard evidence, otherwise it's just that - a made up story, a hoax, a myth.

Also, since pink is a description of something's visual appearance, an invisible pink unicorn is like a circular square.

And it makes about as much sense as the Holy Trinity.

The question is not: does the Unicorn exist. The question is: Is it pink?

Well, I think the historical reality of Jesus and the way Christianity emerged out of nothing at his time makes Jahve more probable (but still not probable) than a pink unicorn

I have never met anyone who believes in an Invisible Pink Unicorn, but I don't see why I would have to make fun of them for it or anything.

You shouldn't, otherwise you'd be a hypocrite since you believe in a similar thing. One which is in every respect just as ridiculous to people who don't believe in these things.

"Pinkness" is just a metaphor for Unicorn's kindness and caring nature.
Blasphemy!!! I want you beheaded for saying that.
It' an expression of it's logical mind and no nonsense attitude.

This poll sucks. There's no "I don't give a damn about religion option".

That's the thing, I don't find it ridiculous at all. Wrong, sure, but so?

Shut up, you schismatic! The Coucil of Trident clearly established that it's a sign of Unicorn's kindness and all other interpretations are to be considered heretical!
