How smart do you think you are relative to CFCers? Pretty basic question and I've set up a poll to figure it out. I encourage everyone to rate where they think they stand.

Follow up question for discussion: Do you think there is a significant difference between the mean level of intelligence in the general population and the median level? What about in CFC?

In terms of raw intellectual candle or computing power, I think I'm average, if not slightly below average.

In terms of my ability to discuss political issues? I'm in the top 15%.

Are we at CFC intellectuals?

Yes, which is exactly why I think this question is more interesting than "how intelligent are you relative to the general population?"

If this were among CFCOT I would have supplied a different answer. But as a whole, CFC is a very large group and therefore the trend among general population should hold true here as well.

Well, I was told when I was 14 that my IQ was in the top 0.5% of the UK population. I'm guessing that still includes me in the top 10% of CFCers.

I'm not an expert on IQ tests, but one test as an adolescent isn't the best metric for comparison, say, a decade later... or am I completely wrong on that? :p

I'm taking 'the CFCers that I 'know'', because I spend very little time in the forums outside of the various OT parts, but have bad, bad memories of the Civ IV discussion forum.

I thought that a perfectly designed test should give you the same result whenever you took it (we don't get more or less intelligent, after all - disallowing for my own excuse!), but of course most tests will not be perfectly designed.

Try 18 years later. :)

Seriously though, IQ tests measure IQ. What is IQ, you ask? What IQ tests measure.

If we are talking about the whole forum I think most who post here are probably above the mean. I mean have you read some of the game fora?

We are the 99 percent-ile

200 is a number that describes both of us. It's your weight and my IQ.

Spoiler :
Apart from another of my obscure movie quotes, I don't think you can really measure intelligence. I've learned that everyone's smart in a different field, and even those we perceive to be smart make bad decisions.
