What is the image of yourself that you would like to leave behind? How do you want people to see you after you are gone?

I was reading this article about a family of 3 who came to Oregon to pick mushrooms and got lost, but were found recently safe and sound. It occurred to me that the father of this family if they had died would be remembered like this:

:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

Would you mind if you were the man wearing that shirt? How would you like to be remembered by many after you die? Would such an image of yourself mortify you?

Explain. (I can't stop laughing at that picture)

I wouldn't want to be remembered.

This. With what evidence we have, death provides a rather blunt end to our consciousness, so how we are remembered is meaningless, even if what you did was great enough to be in a history book. To be remembered means you yourself recognize your importance to others.

Unfortunately that's a bit hard to have if you're dead.

Either way though, I still wouldn't want to be remembered, as I do not deserve to have a reserved spot in someone's memory. Maybe some day, though.

I want to be remembered for my research contributions, not petty details about my personal life.

Offspring and through that further family.
Although I would love to..cement my legacy in a building I have designed and had built. People going about there business everyday and seeing that building will mean I remain a part of people's lives (although an incredibly small part, it is only a building after all). Hopefully my building will be well loved and future generations will have to live with it! I like that idea a lot. Unfortunately I don't fancy studying archtitecture for 6 years or however long it is!

Remembered by who? Puddles the dog?

I don't think I'll really care how I was remembered. Going on the assumption that my religious views are correct, I'll be in heaven and not giving a toot what you guys think of me. On the impossible chance that my views are wrong, I'll be nothing and still won't care.

Still, I want a Viking funeral, okay?

At first I didn't understand what the big deal about the shirt was, until I looked closer...

As for the answer, I don't care too much. Although one reason I don't own sex toys is because if I die, I wouldn't want my mom finding them. I'd rather my mother think I don't ever have sex. :)

So back to the picture, exactly what kind of mushrooms was this guy picking?

As having fought against the racism, sexism, heterosexism and other forms of bigotry that exist within this world

heterosexism? hmm, I'm going to have to look that one up...

after looking that up, I conclude that's it's a pretty dumb word. It doesn't really convey the real meaning of it.

Basically homophobia. I was told to essentially "stop using it"

I found this story on Fox News . com, and I really gotta say something here. I find this story odd. The picture in fox news shows a completely different picture.

I'm not saying she's good looking or anything, but what's she doing with a loser like him?

Or is this a different family that got lost picking mushrooms? How many people get lost picking mushrooms? How can you get lost picking mushrooms? Just walk back the way you came. I don't get it.

Isn't it easier to consider this: "How do you want people to remember you while you're still alive?"

Forget about possible end of consciousness. Suppose you moved to another part of the country, or even to another country, and you didn't meet up with some people for 10 years or so. Yet suppose it were possible, maybe because you heard it from someone else, to find out how people remembered you who hadn't seen you in all those years.
  • If you found out how they remembered you, what would they actually say about you today?
  • But what would you like them to be saying about you?
  • Are those two things are different? If so, how are you going to act in future to change that? If you can't change those existing impressions, how will you act in future to make sure that impression doesn't happen again with other people?

As having been less wrong than right. It's all anyone can hope for, really.

Basically homophobia. I was told to essentially "stop using it"
Well, it means what people use "homophobia" to mean, rather than what "homophobia" actually means. Just to be picky.
