Well this is the first time i've ever finished a game and its the first time i've ever won a game, but I ended up destroying every body on the map in six turn (duel map)! I won a conquest victory, but I ended up with a loisy 8,000 points I was in modern times had all the wonders. Don't understand why I only got 8,000.

Probably because you finished so late in the game. If you finish early it drastically increaces your score. Congrats on your first win :goodjob:

It's strange, I won my first game just after Infantry and got 30,000 points, I think (domination) and then my second game I won using musketmen and razing the other continent. 3,000 points? Maybe it's because on my first game I had twice as many cities?

EDIT: oops, sorry, the 3,000 points was my brother winning through time victory. He hadn't even got all the techs! (and it was on warlord :P)

Population is also an important factor in score. With a small map and a conquest win where you probably razed a lot of cities, I'm guessing your overall population was rather small.

Population and early finish are the two biggest factors by far. The highest scores in the GOTM are almost always fast conquest or domination victories with population blown up with Biology and farming everywhere in the end game.

yes, large points are essentially built by population. you could win with few techs, but if each of your cities has 31 pop, you will win by far

first of all, grats!!!!!!! :goodjob:

the official ingame Firaxis scoring formula is shown here. see post #99 in the same thread for the modifiers for difficulty level. it makes my head hurt.

that thread is pre 1.61 (perhaps even from release days) but i think the base logic behind it is the true even today.

the unofficial KMadCandy scoring formula is several yay!!!!s for winning at all, and various additional bonus yay!!!s and other shiny fake trophies for factors including but not limited to such things as:
-first win using a particular victory condition, difficulty level, leader, or game strategy
-wins where i set out from the start aiming for a certain type of game (for example, mostly peaceful diplo without having enough votes myself) and got it
-above category is quadrupled when i use random opponents (a rarity for me when i'm aiming a particular way)
-above category counts double when an unforeseen wrench was thrown into the works and i figured out a way to succeed anyway
-thinking of monty/either khan/toku during their demise as someone IRL who had recently ticked me off
-pulling off a spiffy diplomatic move
-eliminating a civ before they meet civs on other continents, and thus avoiding "you declared war on our friend!" diplo negatives
-manipulating religion by spreading missionaries of different flavors to selected civs when i want to instigate strife and stir up trouble behind-the-scenes without outright bribes
-beating izzy to a religion
-beating izzy to a religion when i don't start with mysticism counts triple
-AIs sending me a missionary to my city in OCC when i already have on there is mega thank yous; i know it's to earn them gold but hey, it's culture for me and i know that they're just gonna try to crowd me so i like the culture
-making a bad move and then recovering
-making a spectacular blunder and then recovering earns megabonus WOW!!!s (this also earns strict "do not do that again!" reprimanders to myself)
-first to circumnavigate
-first to circumnavigate on a pangaea map earns double giggles for general uselessness
-first to circumnavigate when landlocked on a pangaea map in an OCC game earned by map purchases earned triple giggles, pats on the back and "haha purely for denial purposes" gloats
-getting music or astronomy from a hut earns many giggles
-first to liberalism on high difficulties is worth many yay!!!s, moreso as i stretch it out for a more expensive free tech
-strategic gift-teching to get AIs to research pre-reqs i need but CBA to research when successful
-above category counts triple when related to trying to get a more expensive liberalism free tech
-"perhaps this might be of use to you" gifts are usually "ouch"s that subtract from "yay"s but can sometimes be "yay"s if they're things i needed, depends on just how much the difficulty is stretching my ability at that strategy
-my starting warrior reaching level 4 exp or higher without a GG
-my starting warrior or scout reading level 4 exp purely from huts gets giggles since i sometimes consider a single exp hut a waste
-delaying a hut pop one or two turns to finish researching my current tech so that i don't pop that tech earns a yay if no AI beats me to the pop, even if the pop gives only a map
-the above gloats are doubled for chichen itza and great wall, and grrrrrs for the oracle
-culture flipping a city earns gloats
-culture flipping a city that has a religion i don't have earns mega-gloats
-above is quadruple in culture games (which is also where it tends to happen most often)
-each captured wonder from the AI earns "haha thanks for wasting your hammers for me sucker!" gloats
-gloats for captured wonders are doubled or halved for wonders i was trying for myself depending on mood, obsolete status, and whether i wanted it in a certain city
-profiteering post-currency after anyone finishes a wonder by checking each civ for potential tech-selling to obtain cash they may have earned from attempting to build it themselves
-reports of AIs losing cities to barbs when in games where i built the great wall earn evil laughs

i do not usually dance around the house singing "yay!!!" out loud. i really really almost never do the happy dance thing, just ask my dogs! and never ever when hubby is home. and i don't actually add up the "yay!!!!"s. this is all in my admittedly completely oddball mind.

and so on and so forth. basically, i ignore the Firaxis score and play for fun ;)

even truly ignoring the numbers they award me, i can tell that i've improved my own gameplay, strategy, and tactics, and am getting better. and that's one of my goals. my first and foremost goal is to have fun, and i have no qualms about setting up games with options to make that happen, and no sense of guilt about restarting games when it looks like that's not going to happen on days when i'm not in the mood to see if i can overcome that...although when i am in the mood to try, and i do in fact overcome, those hard-earned yay!!!s are the most-satisfying ones :)

Most of my cities were around twenty population, I hadn't gotten every tech, most cities I captured were still in revolt, raized about four cities, My capital got a great person like every ten to twenty turns, I had a golden age or two. Can't remember if anything else happend.
Congrats on your first win
Thanks.
