Given that Brazil is in Civ6 and rumors say Gran Colombia will be in as well, why not more Latin American civs?

However, I know this is not very likely, as the Aztecs and Mayans have always been in every civ game, and it may overrepresent a region Not that Europe tends to be overrepresented in history-based strategy games.

Porfirio Díaz, no contest.

Interesting list but it's got to be Juarez.

If they wanted to play it for laffs, they could go with Calles and make it a civ with an agenda to secularise everything :)

QUOTE]

Gran Colombia covered a larger territory than it does now. Panama, Venezuela, and Ecuador were all part of it until civil wars and US intervention split things up. Simon Bolivar himself I believe presided over it for a time. Outside the Western Hemisphere the history of Colombia is not so well known. But it has been independent for almost 200 years. And is rich in diversity, culture and tradition. As a Civ coffee, gold, and cocoa would be major crops. El Dorado could be a wonder. The para-military could be a unique unit. In short I would very much welcome Colombia and Mexico(which also has so much great culture, people, and the best food to be overlooked for so long) to Civhood

Gran Colombia was one of the variant which fits alphabetically. But considering Bolivar is Great Person, chances for it to appear in vanilla and initial DLC are terribly low.

I wish it were Maximilian I.

Maximilian I was Austrian. He was installed as a proxy to France. His very name is an insult to Mexicans. Benito Juarez was the true leader who was instrumental in resisting the French invaders. A major victory over French forces was the inspiration behind the Cinco de Mayo celebration. Juarez was actually of native birth. He was a progressive forward thinking leader. He was naturally sympathtic to all peoples of the land. And that was very rare in the middle of the 19th century.

Actually, Maximilian was also a progressive and sympathetic to his adopted people, his differences being that he was foreign-born, a monarch, and the people that puppeted him (Maximilian was a puppet of the French, Benito was a puppet of the Americans). Cinco de Mayo was more like a minor victory because it only delayed the French. It should be Dos de Abril (April 2nd, 1867) instead, as it was the date when the French were kicked out for good.

As a Mexican, I don't feel insulted and while I believe Mexico would have been better off had the monarchy stayed, Maximilian's empire had no future, as he lacked support from liberals as he was an European monarch rather than a Mexican elected president, and from conservatives as he was too liberal for their taste.

Personally, I wouldn't prefer Maximilian as the leader, for the simple reason that he was a monarch rather than a president unlike most of Mexico's rulers. As for Agustín de Iturbide, who was also an emperor, he would make much more sense as he signed Mexico's independence and was pretty much our true founding father, but his reign did not even last a year.

Wow, that's some thread necromancy. My top choice for a Mexica leader is Moctezuma I, but Ahuitzotl or Cuauhtemoc might be someone different for a change. :mischief:

rumors say Gran Colombia will be in as well

Were there rumors that Gran Colombia would be included? All we have so far are discussions in forums, nothing of any hidden clue about a supposed inclusion of Gran Colombia.

The only hidden clue we have so far is from Genoa, which some people seem to have seen in the game archives, but for some reason we did not get it.

Well Genghis Khan was a Great Person too. :mischief:
Anyway Gran Colombia isn't confirmed but it one's of the most popular choices for a Spanish speaking Civ from the Americas other than Argentina and Mexico.
Edit: Just realized this poll was from 2016.

If we must have another colonial Latin American nation, I'd want Argentina just because Eva Peron is an extremely charismatic leader, but I'd rather have more indigenous civs.

Can't wait for Guatemala and Peru to be added under their respective leaders Lady Six Sky and Huanya Capac
