Immortal University Bullpen

I'd like fractal as well. It's what I usually play in non-forum games, for the variety it offers.
If you have a specific map style in mind (pangaea, continents, islands, a mix), you could just generate a bunch of fractals until you find one that suits you. But the players still wouldn't know what to expect...

A nice Islands or Archipelago Map on Immortal would be nice. I always roll maps where half the map is isolated. Water maps that are connected pre optics are the best for <deity imo to have some fun.

Roughly 1 week left to vote. So vote vote vote!

So far the map is ... fractal! :)

Have anyone seen or heard from pandamancer lately? I haven't, should I make backup just in case? Fractal has most votes, so I guess Fractal then?

Guys,

Since this is my first IU post...

If there are areas that I should improve in the map generation process/the choice of opponents/difficulty. Feel free to shout it out or PM me :)

Main thing is that all files work - I checked only few, but am sure the rest of them are fine as well. As for the map choice & AIs I said when I took over, the more people create maps the more diversity we'll have. So if you're happy with the result of your map generation process, I'm happy as well.

If you've selected specific opponents (and not random ones - or only one or few) specify that in 2nd post, under map details. All in all, from what I see people discussing in your thread, you did great!

You guys need someone to cook up a map for Giggles next week?

I've been playing around with this mapscript called Planet Generator .68, which seems to create pretty interesting maps with the right settings. Main difference is that they might be a bit food poor (though not sadistically so), but have a lot more forests to chop, which should lead to some interesting early chopping economy. It also creates landmasses of shapes that fractal could never imagine, which is always refreshing. I would very much like to create one of these for IU if there is interest to play a map like this. Of course, if you rather prefer something standard like Pangaea or fractal, I could do that as well.

Here's one random start with surrounding lands revealed:

Not that foodpoor after all...

@ elitetroops

Absolutely! You guys are making this easy for me! You are signed up. :p

I tried Planet Generator and I do like landmass layouts, but yes, as you mentioned it has mostly low food and lots of forests. I was thinking Pangaea or something for Giggles, but Darius's Donut felt somewhat like low hammer Pangaea - so I'm ok with PG.

Welcome aboard!

Thanks Dubioza! I shall do my best to provide an interesting map. There is of course the option available to make it 1 landmass with PG if pangaea is what you like, but to keep things interesting I would prefer not to reveal how many landmasses I make. ;) Am I right that there are no other special requirements on the map? Like no requirement for easy access to UU resource or such that there is in NC?

One problem with PG.68 seems to be that it easily creates a lot more land tiles than the standard scripts, which would lead to long games and too big empires unless lots of civs are added. But I think I've figured out a good way to work around that. I will probably have to reroll quite a few maps to find somewhat balanced starting positions, but I'll keep potential edits minimal.

Could the the overabundance of forests be a big handicap to the AI? The human player can probably take advantage of all the chopping, while the AI apparently is not that good at worker actions...

Nope, there aren't any special requirements like that. If we have to fight without UU's for resource that enables them or not get any at all, so be it. Even if map is totally without needed resource or, for example without horses (which crossed my mind, cause everyone seems to be fed up with cuir wars - and I swear I'll do just that once) it's fine as long as we have fun and learn from it. So create what you like, I'm sure others will as well. As for editing - it is allowed, just watch for balance and doing it correctly (can't help you there ) and mention it in 2nd post.

Yes, forests seems to be a handicap to the AI and it really is bad at worker actions, but on Imm+ he gets enough advantages anyways, so it kind of balances out.

Well done, looking great!
