Inserting microchips into immigrant workers

Hopefully the Canadian Government wouldn't put a chip in the back of my neck.

Yeah, Canada treats better its immigrants. Maybe because it doesn't forget where it comes from, maybe because it is a very large country with very little population, and, same as US, it needs immigrants.

Whoa! Just for the record, you all need to re-read that article. I still stand by my previous comment, but some of you are getting the wrong idea about who may have put this idea on the table.

Sen. Spectre did not advocate this idea, he repeated it!
On Thursday, Mr Specter - who held talks with Mr Uribe in April - read out a report in the US Congress in which he alleged:

"President Uribe said he would consider having Colombian workers have microchips implanted into their bodies before they are permitted to enter the United States to work on a seasonal basis."

If the government is criminal, there are already thousands of ways they can do great harm un to you. Microchips would really be superfluous.

There are many benefits to universal microchip implantation that CFC seems all too ready to ignore. It's quite interesting to watch the highly reflexive reaction here.

There are always benefits inherent in curbing civil liberties, usually involving security or efficiency.

I think the worry is that these chips will require Windows xp to run....

Like you guys I don't think this will happen because it would force people to bypass the immigration system and become illegals.

Anyone capable of proposing this idea deserves contempt, if only because it wouldn't work and because it would further make the US look fascist. But you have to assume that he'd thought of that before he said it.....

Well they should chip criminals....but citizens?Damn.

Even with the xenophobia the U.S government has now. This still would not happen. Our human rights peoples would not allow it. And i doubt any law imposing microchip implantations would be able to get passed.

But its still an interesting article none the less.
Xenophobia! Don't talk to me about Xenophobia! Been to Europe before? How about China? Japan? Iran? Israel? America is one of the least Xenophobic modernized nations in the world. IN THE WORLD.

I want a bionic work force too! :goodjob: Big Business! :D

Well then, for your safety I suggest we plant a few cameras in your house and around your neighborhood to monitor your actions incase your slip and fall in the bathtub or someone tries to break and enter.

We're not fools SN, most of us can probably envision the benefits of implanted chips (medical, security, etc.) but then most of us also realize the potential for abuse that it has.

What does the rest of the world have to do with how xenophobic America is?

Yes imagine if an enemy spy got hold of the presidents remote control. He could make all your HEAD A SPLODE. Very dangerous.

nono, its all with the mind control, at the flick of a switch you kill :D

He actually speaks some truth. Europe is very xenophobic on the muslim influence there. I dont see how you can deny that. And some countries immigration laws are even stricter then the U.S's.

What does the rest of the world have to do with how xenophobic America is?

Hes saying that americans are not the only xenophobic people in the world. In fact americas immigration laws are more lax then many other developed countries. So honestly i think the europeans on this board are just taking a blind eye to their own domestic issues and talking about americas like its a bigger deal.

Funny how many people immediately jump on the "criticize U.S." bandwagon!

The story appears to say to me that Colombia would be doing this, not the United States. Maybe my knowledge of American government has gone down the tubes lately, but I'm pretty sure foreign leaders have no say in U.S. domestic policy. :crazyeye:

Yeah, injecting microchips into immigrants would be on the "crazy paranoid extremist" side in my book.

Obviously one cannot completely get rid of illegal immigration, of which is an exercise in futility, but simply mending the border and definately make it easier to immigrate to the US and become a US citizen would be a great start.

1) Not gonna happen.
2) Agree US is least xenophobic country I've ever lived in or visited. The US has its wackos, but overall it is better.

Edit: As an aside, I'd say the US and Europe are reversed on homophobia and xenophobia. Both are very tolerant in general, especially compared to most of the world, but on these two areas they are reversed at about the same level.

Surely if you could catch them to inject them, then you could expel them? Catching, injecting but allowing to stay, isn't that acknowledging a right to remain?
But as IglooDude points out, the only effective stategy would be to inject all 'legal' Americans, which is never going to happen in any right-minded country.

Two questions for you:
1. Have you read the Apocalypsis?
2. Have you read 1984?

Actually, WWIII happens first, then rebuilding.... then you'll worry about the chip. ;)

(after all, what better way to unite everyone when the population is depleted, and you need a cooperative effort. Then, a few links down the leadership chain, it'll happen). But, that's another story.

Even still, I don't think implanting chips into immigrants is a good idea. Since they're (here atleast) technically Mexican, it could create an international incident.
