Into The Future

nuke their army to oblivion and roll over their weakened cities! Mop up with highly promoted stealth bombers.

That might be possible.

Will there be an end to Sullymann's nonsense?:(

Don't know quite yet. I'm not sure if I want to let him conquer the whole eastern side of the northern continent.

Spoiler for the next update.....

Spoiler :
*It* finally happened.....

Spoiler :
The Ottoman invasion of Russia continued, and so did the tensions between the Ottomans and the US. The Ottomans knew the United States did not like what they were doing. It was almost as if they were daring the US to do something about it.

The United States, however, did not wish to fight and tried repeatedly to secure a peace agreement between the two nations. But all attempts had failed. All throughout the months of May and June of 2127, the US government continually debated about how to respond to Ottoman aggression.

In July of that same year, the US military began to mobilize in case of war, and the US used the mobilization to threaten the Ottomans in hopes that they would cease their invasion of Russia. But the Ottomans had stationed an aircraft carrier off the coast of Malatya, and American intelligence had now confirmed the ship was carrying nuclear weapons.
2013-02-12_00001_zps050a5bf1.jpg

It was believed that the Ottomans had purposely allowed the US to know this information in hopes of keeping them from declaring war. But regardless, the US knew that if war broke out, the aircraft carrier would have to be destroyed.

Finally, the US President himself made one final visit to the Ottoman capital in hopes of securing a peace agreement between Russia and the Ottomans.
2013-02-12_00002_zpsedd6beea.jpg

The Ottomans flat out refused and made an insulting offer, that if the United States would pay them and give them free exports of American goods then they would cease their invasion.
2013-02-12_00003_zpscfcf9696.jpg

The US had run out of negotiating room.

The disgusted President returned to America and reluctantly asked the Senate to declare war. After a week of debate, the declaration of war was passed on July 28th.
2013-02-12_00006_zps54b8f990.jpg

Spoiler :
"I would now like to inform all American people that the Senate has passed a declaration of war against the Ottomans", said the US President in his war address. He continued, "The Ottomans have proven themselves to be a menace to the world. They seek to bring all under the realm of their control. And it is almost certain that if we do not stop them now, that later down the road they will attack America itself, and will attempt to conquer us as they have other nations. So, this war is not only a defense of Russia, but also a defense of our own country. The people of Songhai, and the people of Russia, are suffering under the tyrannical yoke of the Ottoman Empire. We must stand for freedom. We must free the people under the iron rule of Turkish Fascism. And we must defeat the Ottoman menace once and for all. I would like to remind all our brave soldiers, that this is what they are fighting for. The freedom of the world."

As soon as the American command at Marsin heard of the declaration of war, they ordered the only American vessel stationed there to head out to sea in an attempt to sink the aircraft carrier that was carrying nuclear weapons. The American cruiser engaged the carrier and fired, damaging it badly. Shortly after, it was finished off by an American cruise missile.
2013-02-12_00011_zpsbb8d1db2.jpg

Meanwhile, around Marsin, fighting had already broken out between American and Ottoman forces.
2013-02-12_00013_zps178684d7.jpg

And the American navy was in a small battle with an Ottoman vessel in the gulf of Philadelphia.
2013-02-12_00012_zpsf6ccdfd9.jpg

The US command then determined that the first major step in the war would be an attack against Malatya. Fighting ensued all around Marsin, accompanied by American aerial bombardment.

At first, American forces relentlessly pushed back the Ottomans. It wasn't long before the American army began the siege of Malatya.
2013-02-12_00018_zps25f3df89.jpg

But the American command then received the disturbing news that the Ottomans had at least one nuclear bomb stationed on an aircraft carrier in the Sea Of Istanbul, that the Ottomans could use to hit a major American city or maybe Washington itself.
2013-02-12_00019_zpse9a29ae0.jpg

With no naval presence in the Sea Of Istanbul whatsoever, the US was not sure what to do. In desperation, the President finally ordered a nuclear missile to be launched to destroy the threat.

2013-02-12_00021_zpsa994929d.jpg

It was believed that the missile may have destroyed almost half the Turkish fleet in the vicinity, or more. But more importantly, the missile neutralized the threat of nuclear attack from the Sea Of Istanbul.

While continuing the attack against Malatya, the American forces hit another problem. American intelligence discovered a massive stockpile of guided missiles in the Ottoman city of Mugla, which could no doubt do untold damage to the American army.

2013-02-12_00048_zpsb4f7656c.jpg

But the American command could think of no way to take the city before the missiles could be used. So reluctantly, the American President yet again ordered a nuclear missile to be launched in an attempt to wipe out the missile stockpile.

2013-02-12_00051_zps75897388.jpg

It was believed that the nuclear strike had destroyed the missile stockpile, so the American forces continued the attack against Malatya. The remaining Turkish forces put up stiff resistance, but finally, the American army broke through and took the city.

Whoa, 13 guided missiles in a single city

And it looks like 'em Ottomans are bringing in a ton of stuff as well

good fight so far. I got tom clancy's endwar, and it is somehat similar to what is going on in
my game and your game as well. But good
update, and good luck.

Its a shame they took out the "global warming" feature in Civ V, it made nuclear wars more devastating to the environment.

Yeah, that would have been a nice feature to make it more interesting.

Just wait 'till you see what they have on the northern continent. Not as many missiles and aircraft as they have down south, but they make up for it in units up there.

Thanks, and good luck to you as well.

NOO!! No no no! global warming ruined the concept of using nukes and screws the game up. Also the AI will have much disregard and spam nukes anyway.

hey guys, I will be inactive for 6 weeks due to school. see you when the 6 weeks is done!

Alright.

Expect probably at least a few more updates in this thread by that time.;)

Spoiler :
While Americans forces on the US home continent were fighting the Ottomans there, the American forces on the northern continent were beginning the campaign to liberate the Songhai and to come to the aid of Russia. American forces were still in position from the standoff when the Ottomans were fighting the Songhai.
2013-02-12_00025_zps68cef5d0.jpg

Like the southern front, American forces initially beat back the Ottomans with a combination of tanks, missile artillery and air bombing. American forces were soon advancing close to the occupied Songhai city of Kumbi Saleh.
2013-02-12_00028_zps956f5aee.jpg

But American fears for the city of Haerbin came true, as the Ottomans began moving toward the city, and the US to did not have a very strong military presence there. Shortly after the war began, an Ottoman vessel sunk the American submarine stationed off the coast.
2013-02-12_00038_zpse6d3a39c.jpg

The American battleship survived, however, and would prove to be an important tool in holding off the Ottoman advance.

It wasn't long before the Ottoman army began attacking the city with artillery bombardment and mechanized infantry.
2013-02-12_00057_zps9c4cac1d.jpg

But the American battleship stationed there did a good bit of damage to the Ottoman forces near the coast, and the forces at Haerbin were managing to hold out, at least for awhile.

And although Haerbin was not able to build military quickly, the Americans at the base there were able to begin assembling a stockpile of missiles to strike at back at the Ottoman forces.
2013-02-15_00062_zps473830bb.jpg

The US government realized that the US would need a place to build up forces and send reinforcements to the northern front. But the United States' core cities were so far away that the US needed a place closer to the war zone. Therefore, the US government began looking for a former French city to put to the task. The government finally chose the city of Lyons.

Ever since the third and fourth French-American Wars, the US had allowed the former French cities alot of self government. This military buildup in Lyons, however, required the US government to more tightly control the affairs of the city. It was hoped that the French people would not begin to resent American rule.

With assistance from the American navy in the Gulf of Philadelphia, American forces had also begun the siege of the Ottoman canal city of Zonguldak.
2013-02-15_00054_zps0ba79d60.jpg

After months of fighting around the city, the main American robot was forced to retreat for repairs, but the siege continued with artillery and American naval vessels.

It was not until after the war began that the American command considered that a naval presence might be needed in the Sea of Istanbul. And before the war the US had not built any ships for use there. But after the great scare of the Ottomans having a nuclear weapon in the area and the damage the Turkish navy was doing to American land forces, the US determined to build their own navy and drive the Turkish navy out.

The only seaport the United States had on the Sea of Istanbul was the former Siamese city Phitsanulok, so the new buildup began there. It wasn't long before the first American ship was finished. It was dubbed the "USS Phitsanulok", after the city in which it was built. The ship immediately went out to sea, and engaged an Ottoman vessel. But the Ottomans did not expect American naval presence in the Sea of Istanbul, so their ship went down before it could even return fire.
2013-02-12_00058_zpsfd4ebf46.jpg

The Ottoman navy there continued to damage American forces on land, so the US continued the naval build up and attempted to distract the Ottoman navy away from American land forces.

Another ship and a sub eventually joined the USS Phitsanulok and continued to battle the Ottoman navy.
2013-02-15_00069_zpse5e3ddc5.jpg

American forces continued the attack on Kumbi Saleh, facing stiff Turkish resistance. The battle continued for months. The Ottomans counter-attacked, and American forces were taking some casualties.

Eventually, an Ottoman mechanized infantry division attacked the American mobile SAMs in the area. Although taking damage, the American forces held their ground. Nevertheless, the Ottoman mechanized infantry division survived as well. The American command was not sure if the damaged American robot could destroy the remaining Turkish mechanized infantry. Instead, it was bombarded by missile artillery and finished off.

After a little more bombardment and aerial attacks, the Turkish defenders of Kumbi Saleh were worn down. An American modern armor division charged in and, after a fierce battle, finally overcame the city's defenses. The US restored the Songhai as an independent nation once more.

Although battered, the American forces had taken the first step in liberating the northern continent from Turkish oppression.

Great to see big guns firing in action in the waters, and some liberating action as well

Though I'd be worried with that amount of mech inf and heavy arty lying about... have the Ottomans retaliated with nukes yet?:(

Just wanted to share something that may affect this story greatly in the long run.

For some reason when you go really far into the future on Civ5 the amount of influence you get with city states for gold gifts diminishes, and I think it eventually gives zero influence and then gives negative influence. This could hurt me later on, as I'm relying heavily on a city state up north for aluminum.

In this screenshot you can see the amount of influence for gold gifts has gone down, and as far as I know, it keeps going down.

Btw, update probably coming later today.

If CivV is anything like CivIV, you can tweak your game speed XML. I think there is a value relating to the power of gold gifts, which you could tweak and it applies in game upon loading the game back up.

For instance, for marathon, the value is

<GoldGiftMod>67</GoldGiftMod>

On Quick, it is 125. I haven't played on quick, but I'm guessing gold gifts are more powerful on it (?). If the opposite, lowering the value should do the trick as well.

There is also two values for inflation in case future unit costs become crippling. Lowering either would help.

As for the story, pretty interesting so far. Hopefully you can win out against the Ottomans without resorting to carpet nuclear bombing.

Interesting idea there. I might try it sometime.

If anyone recalls earlier in this game I was allies with Ragusa, but in the last couple of updates you can see I no longer am. This being vanilla and all, it's hard to keep up alliances with city states when you can't rely on gold.

And yea, unit maintenance could also be a problem.

to Heerio: oh. didnt know that. My ipod touch is currently under repair and I am using my computer. I made a new account since I cant access my old one.

I enjoyed reading that. As I mentioned elsewhere, I am working back into the game and it is things like this that make me remember great times with it!
