IOT Developmental Thread

Which I don't get. What does whatever happens in chat have to do with what happens in forums? It certainly doesn't make it more or less fun.

For me, at least, the chat made me feel more involved in IOTs, and in the community in general. I got tired of the way the chat was handled, and haven't really been back since that.

Thanks for the comments Sone.

Also, in regards to your question about land vs commerce based economies, it is my intent for 'land' to focus on owning territory since that means more serfs working more farms which means more wealth trickling to the ruler through taxes of it. However a commerce based economy would rely more on trade and the mechanics that would go with it, leading to small merchant powers like Venice to blather riches.

Im thinking maybe once the first country gets to a certain economic tech first, a CoT is created in one of their provinces. The first CoT would start small of course, but all of the profits would go to the home country with a small stipend going to its neighbors due to the fact that when wealth gathers the surrounding area inevitably gets some trickle down effect, until another country gets the tech and creates their own CoT. Not sure how to deal with merchants; will deal with that later. However should 2 neighbored both have a CoT the 2 CoTs would get a penalty to their worth due to competition leading to the trade in the region splitting between them. New CoTs would have a penalty for the first turn or so while after a certain amount of turns with no competition a CoT begins to get a bonus due to the monopoly on the region it is building.

Its a very rough idea at the moment obviously and trade will naturally force me to sit down and crunch some numbers, as will war, crunching numbers being one of my least favorite things to do especially with school starting in the next few days.

Revolutionary concept: HiatusIOT. Last player to post wins.

No, sorry. Last player to post AT ALL wins.

I understood the distinction. I was wondering how you would mechanically separate the two ideas and allow one to be just as good as the other. Also, would there be "mixed" economies in this system?

You could use the MPIV/Market Value system of the CoTs generating X amount of revenue, with merchants just grabbing a share of that profit. It would be wise to limit the number of shares in each CoT though. Otherwise you get diminishing returns problem seen in MPIV's influence system.

I feel your pain. I've done nothing the last three weeks but crunch numbers. It doesn't help that, contrary to popular belief, I'm actually not very good at math.

I wish I could play, but I'm one of those people who can't play games like this due to spoilers. I'm still on the Light Fantastic since I've been distracted by other books.

You realize that RS was joking, right?

Im thinking of starting a 2013 Modern IOT (not clear if fresh start). Do I have interested players?

Non fresh start, yes.

oh yah before i forget, yes I am interested in a modern IOT

I am proud to announce my newest project.
Rise of EuropatrIOTism II: Scramble for North Africa.
Features:
- More provinces than the last one!*
- More Africa to control!
- Control of Naval provinces!
- Suez Canal! Or whatever you want to call it!
- Tons of NPCs to encourage diplomacy rather than total war!
- Proper spheres of influence!
- No Crisis in Thessaly!

Some things will be streamlined, such as the population system. The research system will be discarded in favor of random events happening.
* The result of spending four days merging provinces on the HOI3 map into something playable!
Here's the map already:

Oh, God, the map. It hurts my eyes.

It's an alright map, amazing considering it is from HOI3

There should be an IOT where everyone has to start in Australia or get a massive economic penalty, called the Scramble for Terra.

Oh, God, the map. It hurts my eyes.

Sorry you feel that way.
Maybe you'd prefer the original?

Seriously though, I'm sorry you don't like the map. Can you at least concede it has some good points?
