IOT Developmental Thread

Also, that reminds me. If zombies tried to walk across the ocean, their heads would implode.

Indeed. I don't think they'd modify their course in order to avoid deep ocean zones where pressure would simply crush them into nothingness.

Rule of Cool, guys, Rule of Cool.

Same reason drones and robots aren't allowed for military use in Z-Day.

ZOmbies are quite cool. They prey on human's fear of overwhelming numbers, their loved ones turning on them, losing their sense of identity, and disease. They are psychological horrors, as well as comments on the human condition. Much more interesting than any other type of monster out there, and quite a few other pop culture phenomenon (superheroes, for example).

I've wanted to do a Zombie IOT someday where everyone is city-states strewn about the post-apocalyptic wasteland. I always liked seeing the re-emergence of the city-state model in undead stories, and seeing how society exists with both medieval and modern conventions.

Hell if I know. Could presumably just be a single US state or small country, given the scale involved.

Well the terrain should be rather diverse and the small country should still have a rather sizeable population. I was thinking somewhere around the lines of Bosnia :P

The goal of reducing your troops combat effectiveness by 95% for the first turn is to allow the zombies to destroy your military. What I want to happen is for players to seal themselves off in geographically hard to attack locations and see how well they do under constant siege.

To the pressure thing about walking under the ocean, I am using the science from the World War Z book for the zombies.

So I'm planning to run an IOT soon while I work on development for the EUIOT. It will be a reboot of a previous IOT, by far my most popular one to date: Second American Revolution. However, unlike the previous proponent and its less popular redux, in this IOT you most likely aren't the leader of your own faction in a fresh start US map. Instead, you're a commander in one of 8 major factions. They are as follows:
  • Free State of Cascadia
  • California Republic
  • Holy Union of Deseret
  • Reino de Rio Grande[Kingdom of Rio Grande]
  • Confederate States of America
  • United Soviets of America
  • United States of America
  • Democratic Republic of New England

Here's a map so far.
Spoiler :

Zombies aren't even cool. They're stupid.

In other news: Since SuperIOT was a complete and utter bust, I've begun planning for IOTMAD. Think IOTCW2, but streamlined, simplified, and with an altogether more lethal nuclear option.

A Cold War IOT

Coming (probably) not soon to a thread near you.

Known mistakes in the map:
-Indonesia

Thought it was about time for me to give an update on this. The ruleset is mostly finished and most mistakes on that map have been corrected. Stats are now being worked on. So only a couple more months of waiting, at the most.

ooh i enjoyed IOTCW2, its a shame it died around new years because, of well new years, now the real question, do i play as OPEC again, or do i play as one of my other 2 ideas ive had.

also this post is mostly so i get this in my sub box, i enjoy visiting this but ive never posted :p

I loved IOTCW2. It was hit with the New Years though. The IOTCW series really IS good but always gets hit with long-breaks.

IOT SARR Dev Diary 1: I am 9 and what is this

SARR is an acronym for Second American Revolution Redux. the premise is based off of a previous installment of mine, a moderately popular game titled Second American Revolution. However, this game will be a bit(lot) different.

For starters, you won't be playing your own little rebellious faction. I mean, you will be playing in a faction, but won't have one to call your own, really. Instead, most of you are a regional commanders, only in charge of as much as your faction's leader gives you. Which generally should be a lot, but could be thinned out depending on your faction's situation.

Firstly, let's look at the economy.

Industrial Capacity

Your faction's industrial capacity is how your faction's capacity to produce, well, anything. Ranging from war supplies to food to chairs. Industrial capacity is managed by the faction's leader, and can be distributed in two basic ways. The factional leader can distribute the IC to commanders, who will then assign it to what they need based on their unique situation. Or, the leader can override commanders and distribute it himself to perhaps increase centralization or something else. IC can be distributed in the following categories:
  • Scavenging
  • Recruitment
  • Supply
  • Reinforcement
  • Domestic Production

Scavenging is supplying search and salvage parties out on missions to find abandoned military bases or weapons caches. These facilities, if found, could provide one time supply bonuses, research bonuses, extra IC, or even new vehicular divisions that become usable once completely reinforced. Spending more IC into Scavenging increases the search parties' chances of finding something.

Recruitment is self-explanatory. This IC is spent dedicated to arming new militia divisions of your faction. These are generally entirely made up of infantry, but as technology is found your faction could eventually be able to permanently produce some high-grade military vehicles.

Supply is also self-explanatory. This IC is dedicated to delivering supplies to the front lines, supplies like bullets or food. You know, essential front-lines stuff. If your troops get low in supply, they will face massive combat penalties.

IC dedicated to reinforcement goes to basically "ship" (the term is used loosely) manpower to replenish the front lines.

Domestic production is IC dedicated to your population. In war, citizens conserve more (usually regardless of whether or not they want to) so it's not as important, but don't neglect your citizens. Fighting to unite America won't go well when you rebellion is facing rebellion.

It should be noted that you cannot produce more IC. Yes, this means the amount of base IC at the start of the game, barring IC gained from scavenging, is all there is ever going to be in the game. IC can be damaged by bombing or simply heavy fighting, but can then be repaired using IC(repair is related to Domestic Production in terms of IC allocation)

hey LH, when you have a map for IOT MAD share it, I have a couple (3) ideas for a nation that ive wanted to play, however i would like to know the map to try to help narrow it down if you would be willing :D

I'm liking it so far.

Question on supply - since units aren't going to be shown on the map, will supply just be a static number we have to throw money into every turn?

I like the map, though. What's the status on the Manhattan Commune? Just neutral? What's the point of it?

Supply will be discussed in the dev diary bound to come out concerning battle. It will be dynamic based on how much action is seen during a turn and different fronts could have varying levels of remaining supply.

Full details of everything on the map will similarly be given at a later date.
