IOT Enlightenment 2: Philosophers and Kings

Um, if trade routes require a connected series of sea zones, I just put a little circle in each sea zone running between the player country and the partner.
The circle was the color of the host country. Tedious, yes. A ‘female dog’... I am not so sure of.

The headache I would see would be in cataloging all the ‘auto accepts’ orders from players. Other than making the players publish a list of trading partners (which has to be verified anyway), I see the most time being spent in building the list of trades. I guess a 13x13 table would be the best way.

In Excel, you can even use a COUNTIF function at the end of each row to count the number of trade routes that are formed, and therefore the expected amount of IPC that should generate. Should be easier than tracking it this way.

To: Australia
From: The Iron Islands

We have implemented a pre-emptive blockade under the pretense of security. We had reason to believe that the Australian Empire, with their secretive orders, may have been planning aggressive military action against the Iron Islands. This early, we believe this necessitated an early, immediate response. The Iron Islands is open to hammering out a peace agreement.

We did not send out war orders, as is plainly obvious now. Remove your ships now and we will ignore this minor misunderstanding in future diplomatic relations with your country.

Glad to see players trying to help the poor GM out. :)
He must be doing something right if we are willing to help.

If Son removes his blockade now, will I get my trade back?

We are quite apologetic, but a statues quo antebellum will no longer suffice. While we humbly regret the mistaken military venturism, we are where we are. Therefore, we will need to work on a peace agreement that reorganizes the Pacific power structure so the Iron Islands or Australia never fear a recurrence of violence again.

Unless you declared war on us, we are at peace. Unless your intention is violence then your ships will vacate Australian waters immediately.

We are neither at peace nor war, but the blurry line in-between. For the third time, we ask the Australian Empire to come to the negotiation table so that our two Pacific nations can work out a treaty to a lasting peace in the Pacific. If Australia refuses to even discuss a treaty, then we are left to believe that our suspicions regarding the Australian Empire and their intent on Borneo are justified.

1. Thanks for placing the Dene Industry for me; I was not aware that they had to have a location when built.:goodjob:

2. Can we redeploy our trade route paths?

3. “Naval units are represented on the map, whereas armies are not.”
a. I take it that the ‘X’ on the map marks the presence of a fleet?
b. Since ships are on the map, does that mean that they only operate in the area deployed?
c. If armies are not shown on the map, does that mean that they operate as a nebulous entity showing up wherever needed? As an example, if the Dene are attacked in two provinces, does their army show up to defend them without instructions from me?

4. 'Spies cost 1IP to recruit, and can be used for a variety of missions.'
a. Is it safe to assume that spies never die other than during assassination missions?
b. Are they also a nebulous entity on defense, deploying wherever needed without specific instructions from the player?

5. “These units have no combat abilities on their own, but their trained commanding presence gives their supporting soldiers +20% in battle.”
How does that work?
If we have small forces (three troops on a side, say) an additional 20% doesn’t seem like it would even register.

6. Can we save IP?

7. There is still one unanswered question I have for the GM posted earlier:

What are your terms?

2: No. I'll probably redo them all in the infinitely more sane method that people have been proposing, but you can't manually adjust the routes.

3: No. Those little boxes of color near Australia? Those are Iron Islander fleets. The Xs represent blockades(there should be one near New Guinea, but I was lazy). B is yes, and C is also yes.

4: A is wrong, as every failed or successful mission has a chance of killing spies, but in both cases it's lower than assassinations. B is correct, though. EVERYONE should build at least a few spies for self-defense purposes, at least.

5: Basically, say you have 5STR worth of units(5 Irregulars and one General). You suddenly have 6STR, instead of 5. Now imagine you have 5 Regulars, or 20STR. You now have 24STR, or a whole nother unit of Regulars. Combine that with the 10% buff from Imperial and you have 26STR in that force, a 30% increase. But they are more valuable later in, yes.

6: No.

7: Generally, for my convenience, either make a new post or send me a PM. If you send a PM with orders, then want to make changes to your orders for any reason, send me a PM with FULL orders, as I will not apply orders from across 2 or 3 PMs, just the latest one. The latest orders PM you send me should have everything I need to calculate your nation for the update, independent of any other PMs or posts.

A simple concept, but one I've had a LOT of players struggle with in the past.

Boycott the War!

Her most august majesty, Salvbara queen of the Dene, is displeased over the situation in the Pacific Ocean.
She believes that she is not alone in her displeasure, that many other nations do not view the actions there with equanimity.
There has to be a better way to resolve disputes.

She would be most appreciative of other nations joining her in an economic boycott of the Iron Islands.
Until the Iron Islands stops interfering with the trade between Australia and the rest of the world, Dene withdraws from trading with the Iron Islands.
During the interim, her majesty instructs her ministers to pursue every means, diplomatic, economic, and political towards quickly restoring normalcy to the region in conflict.

Her majesty hopes that by her nation’s example, a way to end the hostilities short of military force will be found.
Until that day, there are no goods moving between Dene and the Iron Islands.

OOC: To the GM,
I will submit orders to this effect if the situation doesn’t resolve itself by the deadline this turn.

The fleets are hard to see, at least with my eyes.

You might want to try using a different icon for the ships, such as what shows up below. The number is size '8' font. Your choice. :)

And what it looks like at normal resolution:

I also ask Romania for a defensive alliance against Poland.

We accept
9 IC into Regulars
9 IC into Industrial Investments (East Balkans, West Balkans, Anatolia)

@Poland-Lithuania, you do realize that any of the nations you have declared Hostility towards could crush you like an insect, do you not?

Maybe I am just tired, but I wonder if the fleet in the water to the northeast of Australia was successful in blockading the trade route? I do not see the 'X' in the water.

Of course, I also do not see the trade route between Dene and Hindustan, so it may all balance out. :)

The Cape Republic: 13IP

Set 10 IP into industry in Argentina.

Set 3 IP to forge a regular army.

Has the regular army and the irregular army to take on the Amazones.

We offer trade to the Norse, South Africa and Romania.

From China
To Western Barbarians:

We want trade.

MR of ITALIA: 19 IP
Orders: Invest 12 IP into industry, evenly dispersed all around.
Build 2 regulars and 1 irregular.
Send 1 regular and 1 irregular into Switzerland.
Send 1 regular and 1 irregular into the other province that touches Aistria and Italy.

I am dismayed at the war between the Iron Islands.

I hope for a status quo antebellum.
And autoaccept all trade.

That blockade was crippling.

The Founding of a Great Nation

Before the year of 1747, Italy was a mess. It was divided between citystates and powers who played an intricate game of diplomacy. It was a powderkeg, and in 1747, someone lit a match.

On 1/18/1747, Austria marched on Sardinia-Piedmont, sparking a war that would last barely a year. As Austria brought the rest of Italy under its firm control, it looked elsewhere. It saw France, struggling to deal with people calling for the end of the monarchy. As it mobilized its army to counter the Austrian threat, France collapsed into anarchy, the entire army deserting. Within days, Austria brought Southern France completely under control. Only fear of overextenstion and rebels in Italy saved France from complete annexation.

Unfortunately for Austria, the inhabitants of Venezia soon revolted. With most of the Austro-Hungarian military might tied up in France, the Venetians had a clear route to Vienna. As they marched on Austria's homeland, rebels from all over Italy swarmed to their army. The Venetian army's ranks swelled, and before long the army numbered over 350,000, and approaching Vienna quickly.

As the army reached Vienna, they immediately assaulted the walls, battering it with artillary and swarming over the ramparts. The army marched to the city center, proclaiming Austria dead, the HRE disbanded. As soon as they heard this, the Greeks marched into Hungary, crushing the last remnants of Austrian resistance.

When the dust settled, Italy had been freed, Austria conquered and South France occupied but without a strong leadership body, it was all sure to come crashing down. The Venetians were the obvious choice, and they decided to create a republic, to prevent further rebellion. They obviously went with their own style, the Merchant Republic, and thus Italia was born.

Note: this was obviously alt-history, but so is this game...
