A short History of how Order was restored in China and how the Manchu united China:

2282F51.jpg

Writen by Hunxia Liao by order of Qianlong Emperor (the man in the pic).

The Qing Dynasty was founded not by Han Chinese, who form the majority of the Chinese population, but by a semi-sedentary people known as the Jurchen or Manchu.

The dynasty was founded by the Jurchen Aisin Gioro clan in contemporary Northeastern China. The Aisin Gioro leader, Nurhachi, who was originally a vassal of the Ming emperors, began unifying the Jurchen clans in the late sixteenth century. By 1635, Nurhachi's son Hong Taiji could claim they constituted a single and united Manchu people and began forcing the Ming out of Liaoning in southern Manchuria. In 1644, the Ming capital Beijing was sacked by a peasant revolt led by Li Zicheng, a former minor Ming official who became the leader of the peasant revolt, who then proclaimed the Shun dynasty. The last Ming ruler, the Chongzhen Emperor, committed suicide when the city fell. When Li Zicheng moved against Ming general Wu Sangui, the latter made an alliance with the Manchus and opened the Shanhai Pass to the Manchurian army. Under Prince Dorgon, they seized control of Beijing and overthrew Li Zicheng's short-lived Shun Dynasty.

Complete pacification of China was accomplished around 1683 under the Kangxi Emperor. Kangxi Emperor's bureaucracy was staffed with many Han Chinese, including many newly surrendered Ming officials and the Manchu became a minority in the Government. To consolidate the dynasty, the Kangxi Emperor personally led a series of military campaigns against the Dzungars, and later the Russian Empire. He arranged the marriage of his daughter to the Mongol leader Galdan Boshugtu Khan to avoid a military conflict. Galdan's military campaign against the Qing Empire failed, further strengthening the power of the dynasty. The Kangxi Emperor also handled many Jesuit missionaries that came to China. A series of missionaries, including Tomás Pereira, Martino Martini, Johann Adam Schall von Bell, Ferdinand Verbiest and Antoine Thomas, also held significant positions as mathematicians, astronomers and advisers to the emperor.

After the Kangxi Emperor's death in the winter of 1722, his fourth son, Prince Yong (雍親王), succeeded him as the Yongzheng Emperor. Yongzheng remained a controversial character because of rumours about him usurping the throne, and in the late years of Kangxi's reign, he was involved in great political struggles with his brothers. Yongzheng was a hardworking administrator who ruled with an iron hand. His first big step towards a stronger regime came when he brought the State Examination System back to its original standards. In 1724, he cracked down on illegal exchange rates of coins, which was being manipulated by officials to fit their financial needs. Those who were found in violation of new laws on finances were removed from office, or in extreme cases, executed.

The Yongzheng Emperor died in 1735. This was followed by the succession of his son, Prince Bao (寶親王), as the Qianlong Emperor. Qianlong is known as an able general. Succeeding the throne at the age of 24, Qianlong personally led the military in campaigns against Mongolia. In 1750, with a large Army he led a campaign against the Mongolians. The Mongols were crushed in one epic battle, and with minimal casualities, Qianlong Emperor brought Chinese Civilization in Mongolia. Now China, under the wise rule of Qianlong Emperor, is strong and united.

1. Thanks for the quick response to the earlier game questions.

2. Assume Dene has ten armies with no orders.
Dene is attacked in three provinces.
Do the ten armies defend in each territory as a whole force, or how are they split up?

3. Assume that Dene has an unconnected overseas province (called Alphaland) in addition to her starting territory.
a. Does the army still provide for the defense of Alphaland across the ocean?
b. Even if the Dene has no fleet to use as transport?

2: It's split up according to my(your council of military advisers') best judgement to withstand the attacks coming that turn.

3: Yes. Yes EXCEPT if the province is blockaded entirely and borders absolutely no other provinces of yours or an ally's. one overseas colony stuck out on the vine CAN be blockaded and destroyed.

Also, everyone. I'm redoing the trade routes in the more sane way everyone's proposing here, and so I want you all to PM me a list of who you are trading with AS OF LAST TURN. I don't care about changes made this turn, I can track those.

Anyway, leaving for the beach soon. Back on this afternoon/night.

@1&2: No bloody way. Australia is no one's punching bag. We don't care if you have about four times the economic power than us and we're going to die, we're going to fight with dignity.

We would be fine with proposals three and four. But we're not going to submit to scumbag pirates who stop legitimate trade agreements with other nations. You are going to vacate Australian waters, or you will regret it immensly.

From China
To Iron Islands:

We strongly condem part 1 and 2 of your peace treaty with the Australian Barbarians. Here is a revised treaty:

1.) Australia shall pay 2 IP to the Iron Islands.

2.) Australia should relinquish its proposed sphere of influence in Hawaii.

3.) The Iron Islands and Australia will sign a mutual defensive pact with one another, keeping the Pacific for the Pacific.

4.) The Iron Islands and Australia will agree to an intelligence-sharing pact in which any intelligence either nation stumbles upon that is related to the economic, military, or political stability of the other is relayed to counterparts in the other government.

We will drop point 1, but we're taking Hawaii and the East Islands this year regardless. We're basically asking Australia to accept what can not be changed.

As for dignity, do note we're not planning on invasion. You can't beat us in the seas, and we have no intention of stepping one foot on Australian territory. Since you would need to spend 50% more than us on naval spending just to break even, more to actually get anywhere, Australia should quiet itself on these loud, pointless proclamations of "dignity". We understand if the Australian government cares nothing of itself, but doesn't it have a duty to its people to keep them safe? We're offering an easy way out. We're asking for Australia to relinquish its claims to two islands that are not Australian core territories and in exchange, the Australian economy with quadruple in size for next year. Truly, if the Australian government is comfortable with the disservice it is doing for its people, then it stands to be believed that the people should repair their situation or else their ideologue government will have them all starve to death over dignity.

We have no intention of taking any Australian core territory. Australia is an industrial government and has little need for Hawaii or the East Islands other to reform some dead empire.

We can have peace, but only if the Australian government takes steps toward a lasting peace in the Pacific.

Dignity doesn't put food on the table.

Just out of curiosity, and to help me, is there anyone I am not trading with? Except co Poland and Mongolia?

China. And we want trade.

Just out of curiosity, which nation are you playing?
When asked to do your scut work of figuring out your agreements for you, I want all the help I can get.

Italia. And you just have to answer for yourself, not other nations.
I accept China's generous offer.

2 Regulars into England, 2 into East Siberia

I believe I'm currently trading with everyone except Poland, Mongolia and China - although we accept China's offer for trade

Two first rate ships of the line have been dispatched past the cape to protect Celtic shipping. Any attempts to interdict Celtic merchant vessels will be met with force. As a predominantly island nation we take the safety of our trade routes very seriously.

It costs 2 ip to increase industry. It might be cumulative though, so if you invest another 1 IP next turn, you increase the industry. IDK though.

Norskandia would like to point out to the Celtic Union that we plan on expanding into Siberia as well.
We would prefer if the Celtic Union chose a less.. volatile place to expand. Perhaps the West coast of the Americas.

3IP it seems. If it can't be done piecemeal I'll revise later.

West coast is taken, just not on the map I used.
Given that siberia is the largest open area in the world we will not give up settlement in Siberia, in deference to Nordic wishes we are prepared to place our colony one province further east.
