IOT Organisational and Discussion Thread

so we are claiming lands now before the game starts?

le sigh, claiming Italy and or The Holy Land

so we are claiming lands now before the game starts?

Yes, all land claimed before the thread is made will be covered by NPCs.

...

I'm kidding of course. To keep my sanity in check I will not be counting claims made before the thread, but I encourage you to think of nations. And if people claim over the areas you want you can just start in Africa and pretend that is actually the location in Europe you wanted to start in BECAUSE THAT'S WHAT KIND OF GAME THIS IS.

The Torgate knows no boundaries. All is haxor!1111!!12 *Transmission shuts down *

The Imperium of Man claims all the Earth!

Praise the Emperor!

OOC: I am aided by the notion that no one else may want to claim the Isle of Man as their capital... or will they?!

Don't really know where else to put it - so I'm putting it here. I recently posted something in the thread in NES that is used to advertise IOTs, that hasn't been used in a while. In this I brought to light again the prospective of a merger. What is IOT's thoughts on the idea now?

Personally, I have always supported a merger and still support one.

My post can be found here.

I myself also support a merge.

On the subject of stats and story as 'divisions' with I point to a game which uses both elements well to enhance each other: Fall Stars uses a resource, citizen and other data mechanics as a frame but uses also events that have to be creatively resolved, a quest system and encouragement of RP as a story element, added with the 'name your settlements' notions that promote creativity.

Overall I sense a merge may encourage experimentalism.

I used to but last time I presented any sort of opinion on the matter I got shouted off CFC. I wouldn't want us to be on a board where we are treated like second class members.

A merge would have to make any attempts to turn either NES or IOT into a second class as illegitimate. I think the shouting element may not be present. Do not allow the few to speak on behalf of all; I ensure you that efforts will be set to avoid a caste system emerging. Anyway there are those who go to both boards and as such the mixing will make a rigid caste system being not just a act of ill but a very foolish occurrence.

I also used to be in favor of a merger.
No longer.
In the end, it doesn't come down to our opinion, it comes down to the NESer opinion. And NES isn't very open to the idea.
We shouldn't force each other to play each other's games. Keep the boards separate.

NES is not a hive mind and the migration has shifted the structure of NES.

When you speak of NES whom do you speak of?

I ask because we can make the mistake of presuming the whole from certain parts.

It is not the casement of forcing to play others games; are you being forced to play every IOT that shows up? Player can pick and choose which games they are in. What a merge would do would allow the co-operative elements to flourish and to increase transfer of ideas regarding game play and such.

In the end it comes to all opinions as both IOT and NES must have talks on the matter.

We had the discussion when half of NES left and the NES forum still exists

Also, there's a development in IOTs that you have to be able to write a novel to get a point across, else people question your devotion to the game. In this is see no difference from NES, and it means that IOT is slowly becoming NES.
Also, there's a point made by non-IOTers (Patchy), IOTers (CivO), and ex-IOTers of sorts (TK) - we're scary, disturbing people. We make genocide into a fun everyday activity, and joke about it all the time. Nobody wants to be associated with us.

I don't think I ever committed genocide in IOT or NES :(

I have genocided more people than any other IOTer. :mwaha::evil::satan:

As NES is not a hive so is not IOT: I ensure you that it is not universal this "genocide into a fun" notion. I do not find RC, JK, Terran, Poly, Tyo, Hop, Blair and others to fit your pessimistic view of IOTers. Even those who go into areas like slavery and genocide are not the "genocide is fun" crowd you make out; Sone introduced the slave mechanic to MP4 while maintaining a level of consideration in many regards.

Pessimism will not produce action to improve things.

I agree with Ail. You make it sound like all IOTers as some kind of Hitlers.
