IQ tests?

Wasn't there an accusation that IQ tests are culturally biased? Or is that a conspiracy theory.

I had a professor tell me that in the early 1900's U.S., these crackpot racial "scientists" would give immigrants I.Q. tests in English. The non-English speaking immigrants would obviously fail miserably. This gave the testers "proof" that these people were intellectually inferior to Anglo-Saxons.
They extrapolated the average Italian had an I.Q. of 5.

5????????????????? how is that even possible? you would be barely above a vegetative state

those tests are the dumbest thing ever anyway it says i have 159, although i do Algebra 2 mentally
EDIT: this was a official one

5 = Average Intelligence of a Jar of Mustard!

Sweet so Italians are Mustard!

By the end of your first year at university, it should become obvious to you that, however smart you thought you were, you're probably not as smart as that.

I am a firm believer of the idea that wisdom involves knowing that you do not know.

I call BS, even with guessing every single question you could achieve more the 5.

IQ tests certainly have their limitations but they are hardly "useless." If two people from the same general background take a series of reasonable tests, and one consistently scores in the top 1% in every test, and the other always scores within one standard deviation of the average, it's perfectly fair to say that one is smarter than the other.

Just because everyone has equal rights, doesn't mean everyone has equal abilities. I'll never be an Olympic-caliber runner, no matter how hard I train, so why the furore when someone suggests that certain people will never be nuclear physicists?

/Mensa sucks

Most of the online IQ tests, are.

I've taken a bunch of online IQ tests before and an apparently a one in a million genius!

Come on.. ... I'm smart, but not that smart. How popular would these tests be if the majority of people taking them were told, at the end, that they're not that bright?

It just helps people feel better about themselves. How many jackasses have you heard "I'm intelligent, I got 140 on an IQ test" say before? Alright, so I can just think of one, but online IQ tests are bunk.

I think I have more than enough numbers attatched to my name already.

Actually neither the supposed Olimbic-caliber runners had become Olympic-caliber runners no matter how hard they trained. They cheated. Which signals to us that if there was a way for you to ever become a nuclear physicist you would attempt it. Ever is quite a strong word to use.

Not everyone has equal abilities but in truth you can't find it out with IQ tests at which abilities someone excels at or sucks at.

Intelligence is either totally subjective or we must accept all part of intelligence as parts of intelligence. I have no doubt that some today Cab drivers may have a bigger intelligence than Einstein in the matter of remembering maps of areas there may have been an IQ test that would highlight their talents while not do the same with Einstein's and vice versa.

You would say that a test that Highlights Einstein abilities should be the one needed if they could design such but then would Einstein make a good cab driver ?

Anyway because we don't have equal abilities IQ tests are BS.

Nope.

It just shows that one is smarter in those tasks involved in the tests.

The main problem here is the definition of "smartness" or "intellect", not the tests itself.

IQ testing can tell something about your general intelligence but mostly it tests learning ability and also it strongly undermines those person's ability that are more creative or more practircal oriented.

Nope, but the Olimpic-caliber runner has trained years and years so by your comparison also those that perform well in the tests have practiced it years and years and don't point out towards natural talent or born gift.

It should be also noted that there are also all kinds of runners, not just 100 metres sprinters.
So determining anything even your running ability or especially your intellect is impossible based into one single score.
