With the invention of the Maxim Machine Gun in Swaziland, armies now had a more efficient way to bring massive fire-power to the battlefield. It had a mechanism of the that used the energy from the recoil to eject each spent cartridge and insert the next one.

Global
The normally sedate diplomacy, that went normally behind the scenes, exploded onto the front pages of the worlds newspapers. Hawaii leaked information that it thought was a breach of a Non-Aggression Pact between the U.N.A. and L'Accord. This lead to open bickering between the nations involved and it looked like getting out of control as the populations started agitating. The matter was resolved when Swaziland decided to donate 7,000,000 gold to California and all other lesser transgressions by others were forgiven.

Europe
There seems to stirrings of socialist ideals beginning from the works of Karl Marx and some civil disturbances have started in Russia. Germany and Bosnia both left caretaker governments in charge which if they stay too long will cause eventual collapse in stability and even possibly disintegration (GM: No orders were received). France made a deal with its allies to take formal control of the entire British Isles, which was based on previously discussed arrangements.

North America
Alaska has now been taken over by Librulstan in what could possibly be the last war in North America this century. This should allow the nations to develop and catch up to the rest of the world. Meanwhile Canada has appointed Tawantinsuyo to be the sponsor of Ontario. What this status means will be revealed by them later.

South America
The entire continent of South America is continues its development apace and will get stronger each year.

Africa
Swaziland quickly crushed the Zulu rebellion, probably caused in part, by live trials of the new Machine Gun in combat. Otherwise the rest of the Continent was free to develop as well.

Asia
The Mughal Empire made one last push to exert control on it territory while surrounded by hostile nations, it was left with a mere partial province (see battles below for details). Meanwhile Shanghai continued to resist overtures by the Southern Han. When will they join they ask.

Oceania
Hawaii resisted the invasion valiantly by California, but was left with a blockade and only half its islands. Its future looks bleak.

GM: Each new city named in CAPS and BOLD in national commentaries will get 10 extra cultural points. This rule will continue as I add more cities to the map.

Battles

The Battle for Alaska
Alaska regained control of part of the province that was controlled by Tawantinsuyo, with the latter paying compensation. This meant that Librulstan was free to invade on its own.

The two pronged attack was planned and some naval support could be brought to bear on the towns defences, its navy had to be defeated first.

Alaska has now been defeated and eliminated from the game. And California intercepted the shipment of gold from Tawantinsuyo worth 2 IC.

The Battle for Hawaii
California is especially worked up now that Hawaii had tried to place a wedge between the U.N.A. and L'Accord with their leaking of diplomatic communiques and the furore that followed, it was more determined than ever to rid itself of the problem it saw.

Again a two-pronged attack with naval support, against well dug-in defenders, fighting to the last man for each island.

Hawaii loses half its territory and is now blockaded so it will receive no income this turn. It really only has three options;

1. someone comes to its aid in the form of military support and attacks California
2. it tries to inflict as much damage on California, before it is wiped out
3. it surrenders honourably and its remaining territory is neutralised and Hawaii is eliminated from the game

The Battle for the Mughal Empire

The Mughal Empire Attacks
Not content to rest on laurels of taking back its provinces it decides to attack Sindh, Afghanistan, Tibet and Burma, in a desperate attempt to secure its control over its own territory

Operation: Wrath of the Khan

Marshal Khan Noonien Singh leads the 5th and 6th Sikh Rifles garrisoned in Rajasthan in a flanking manoeuvre against Hyderabad and Karachi. General Dayaram Chaturvedi, leading the 3rd and 8th Shah's Own Rifles and Dragoons (respectively) against Bahawalpur, Sibbi and Quelta before making a rendezvous with the 5th and 6th Sikh Rifles and attacking Kabul. General Kocchar of the 9th and 12th Nepalese Light Infantry are the spearheads of the invasion of Afghanistan. All regiment lay siege to Kabul and proceed to take Herat.

The attack on Afghanistan was directed at Kabul with two armies, which was defended by Medina, also with two armies, as no deployment orders were received so the armies were distributed amongst the Caliphate's total provinces of seven. The Xi'An armies were not involved in the battle as the attack was not directed at their forces.

Operations: Eye of Shiva and Smiling Buddha

The 10th and 14th Bengalese Lancers under General Dhan Singh Gurjar strike at the north of Burma, then following the Irrawaddy River southwards towards Rangoon. The 2nd Nepalese Light Infantry and the 7th Bengali Light Infantry under the aging Marshal Pandey then move across the Arakan Mountains in the south, take Sittwe and then support Gurjar's forces attacking Rangoon.

The 3rd and 4th Nepalese Light Infantry and 17th Nepalese Lancers cross the Himalayas, with help from the Shah's Own Sappers, then lay siege to Lhasa. However, Xi'An was also waiting in defense with;

Operation Bow String

Tibet & Sinkiang: Now, we're getting into risky territory. The generals are not sure of the likelihood of an attack in these provinces because they were not originally Indian and are far flung from the main combat areas. But, because they border at least on Indian province, defensive measures must be taken. Ten armies will be used for this theatre of operation, and will be fluidly deployed depending on where the attack is. So in order to increase fluidity, two army groups have been set up (see map), Army Group 1, and Army Group 2, and the ten armies can exchange between the two quickly. If Tibet is attacked, and only Tibet is attacked, all ten armies will transfer to Army Group 1. By the time all the armies will have made it, the Indian should have pushed pretty far into the territory, this will allow the army group to perform a massive flank attack at the rear of the advancing Indian forces, cutting off their supplies and surprising them. Superior fire-power and tactics should destroy them easily and prevent escape. The same plan will go if there is an invasion of Sinkiang and Sinkiang only. If both Sinkiang and Tibet attacked, then it will sadly have to be split 5 and 5 between the army groups. This is where the flank attack tactic we hope will do in the Indian forces because of our loss of fire-power.

Next part of the war were attacks and counter-attacks by the ATK. Here are their respective plans and the battles are resolved province by province.

Operation Bow Echo

This operation is simple enough, the counter-attack into Punjab. Note: This will take place only after the Mughals have finished they're attacks into whatever provinces they invade, hence that this is a counter-attack.

The plan will go as follows: The seven armies stationed in Sindh will attack the closest city, the seven armies in Afghanistan will attack the closest city to it, and the 10 in Tibet will attack across the Hindu Kush at the northernmost city. We expect full Caliphate help with this operation.

The Battles to take control of the Mughal Empire will go in this order:

• Phase 1: Madras, Bengal, Punjab
• Phase 2: Ganges (Xi'An and Siam)
• Phase 3: Bombay (Southern Han and Siam)

The Mughal is left with half of Afghanistan after its aborted attacks and the ATK's massive counter-attack. It really only has three options;

1. someone comes to its aid in the form of military support and attacks the ATK, unlikely
2. it tries to inflict as much damage as it defends Afghanistan, before it is wiped out
3. it surrenders honourably and its remaining territory is neutralised and The Mughal Empire is eliminated from the game

Not shown (due to image limitations), was a battle, that was the crushing defeat of the Zulu rebellion by Swaziland, brought about by testing of the Machine Gun, no doubt.

Great Comet of 1882

The comet appeared suddenly in the morning skies of September 1882, and as it was already visible to the naked eye when it became visible it was discovered independently by many people. Reports suggest that it was first seen as early as 1 September 1882, from the Cape of Good Hope as well as the Gulf of Guinea, and over the next few days many observers in the southern hemisphere reported the new comet. Many people were still frightened by the sight, thinking it was a bad omen.

AC is the form in which electric power is delivered to businesses and residences. Using pairs of coils wound on a common iron core, the design, called an induction coil, was an early transformer. The AC power system used today developed rapidly after 1886, others contributed subsequently to this field. AC systems overcame the limitations of the direct current system to distribute electricity efficiently over long distances even though some people attempted to discredit alternating current as too dangerous.

An appendectomy (sometimes called appendisectomy or appendicectomy) is the surgical removal of the vermiform appendix. This procedure is normally performed as an emergency procedure, when the patient is suffering from acute appendicitis.

First Automobile invented in Medina

It was a three-wheeled automobile with a rear-mounted engine. The vehicle contained many new inventions. It was constructed of steel tubing with woodwork panels. The steel-spoked wheels and solid rubber tires. Steering was by way of a toothed rack that pivoted the unsprung front wheel. Fully elliptic springs were used at the back along with a live axle and chain drive on both sides. A simple belt system served as a single-speed transmission, varying torque between an open disc and drive disc.

Columbia's drive to create a Jewish Settlement has caused much discussion in the newly formed World Zionist Council.
