What is behind this - Who is this Eagle, this Vertigo. Only time will tell ...
December 23, 1898
Hawaiians! Rise up! Fire and foes, we must rise up! Today is the day that this Californian tyranny must be abolished, it must be thrown into the sea, for our people cannot take it anymore! They invaded, we resisted. We fought hard. But the end of the war is not the end of the battle. It was only the beginning. We must fight for our rights, for our freedoms, for our country! California comes in here at the whim of their leader, and says these islands are theirs after 12 hard, long, years of fighting by our brave men and women. This must not be allowed.
It is not only their soldiers they have brought over from their vile mainland. It is also their bloodthirsty secret police, their monstrous corporations, and their evil governors. We have stood by for the past 5 years exactly to this day, and watched as these elements of Californian society have infiltrated every corner of our society and our way of life. Their secret police drag whats left of our young men to pits and torture them, then they bury them alive, never to be seen again. How many of us have lost a father, a brother, even the occasional sister to these methods? other times, we see them silently burn a house to a ground, if the people there had been too outspoken.
Their corporations have come and set up shop here, building massive factories in which to enslave our peoples for their own needs. We see no fruit of these factories! We work for 20 hours a day, everyone that reaches the age of 4 up to those so old they can barely walk! And what do we get? A meal or two, and a few pennies. Some clothes to put on to look nice whenever a mainland inspector comes along. And what does the governor-general do? He sits in his cozy office, with his cozy girls, and turns a blind eye towards all these activities.
And as if that wasnt enough, our islands are being polluted, our fields overrun, our children dying of the poisoned air. Anyone nor pure Californian is treated like dirt. We are treated horribly, in our own homeland that has been unjustly taken from us! It is time for this to end. We must throw these invaders into the sea from whence they came! They must suffer as we have done, their companies must go replaced with humane Hawaiian ones, and their secret police must most of all be eradicated.
Vertigo! Hawaii! Freedom! Execute Vertigo!

The ping of bullets sounded throughout the pineapple and sugarcane fields as a group of around 6 rebels opened fire on a patrol of Hawaiian soldiers on a road that split the field.
"Vertigo! Vertigo!" came the cry from the rebels, deceiving the enemy that they were in one spot when they were in fact already far from it. In this way the group managed to pick off 8 of the 12 men in the patrol within a minute, having the patrol wasting its ammo on imaginary and disappearing targets.
One rebel, a young woman of about five and a half feet tall and looks that signified an age of mid twenties managed to snag 3 of these kills as she hurried from spot to spot, taking a careful shot at each as the group of rebels continually shifted to avoid being shot.
"Staza behind you!"
One of the men shouted to the lone woman in the group, and as she turned she managed to see another patrol of 12 soldiers coming up behind them. they were almost a quarter of a mile away already, and closing at a sprint. She fingered the detonator in her hands, then clicked its safety and put it back in her pocket as she took another shot at the first patrol. Hit. Now there was but one more.
Soon the sugarcane in the field was trampled about, with little cover so close to the road left, so the group of rebels hit the last man in the shoulder, then backed up slightly to the pineapple fields around 500 meters back for more cover. Shaza watched the progress of the second patrol carefully as they switched to a careful approach, making sure their bayonets were in and their guns loaded as they covered each other advancing. She fingered the detonator. Just as she was about to pushh down one of them exclaimed and pointed to a spot on the road 5 meters in front of him. The group of men began to run back the way they came as fast as they could-but not fast enough.
"Too little, too late" Shaza murmured before pressing the mechanism that detonated 2 kilograms of TNT at the spot the man saw a slight disturbance in the surface of the road. The explosion was quite spectacular, and none of the second patrol survived it. Shaza then rushed forward with her bayonet fixed, into the road where the last man of the first patrol was located.
"Who are you?" He whimpered as he saw her approach.
"Shaza Sha'vena, Colonel in the Vertigo Resistance Forces. And you sir, are our new messenger." She replied in a quiet, almost silent tone.
"I...I dont quite understand-"
"You are to deliver your normal report back to your commander at your base. but you are to add the following message, citing my name as its source:
"Vertigo now means any death committed against a Californian. There shall be so many deaths it will make you dizzy on your feet. The deaths shall not stop until you retreat from our islands. When the control of our islands is handed over to our leader, any hostages we have shall be given back to you, and we shall cease hostilities against the Californian state. VRF will not cease to exist, even if you clamp down on us hard. We are not a group that your secret police can simply wipe out. We are an idea, a sense of patriotism, that is instilled in every living Hawaiian, and you just bred a generation of hatred against yourselves. Groups, people, leaders....they may all die. But patriotism.....patriotism is something that never dies, no matter how long you sit on a people."
"Who are you?" He whimpered again, fear in his eyes.
"Vertigo."
Lights and sirens could be seen approaching in the distance, just as the sun set. Shaza took out a small camera she had scavenged from a couple of bodies in a death pit they had uncovered last week. Snapping a shot of the scene for her memory, she hurried into the fields, followed by her 5 men who had scavenged the bodies of the patrol for weapons and supplies.
