Librsultan does hope these issues become worked out soon between Bosnia and France.

A minor population boom in Colorado, in the new cities of Reno and Albuquerque, saw massive economic development in the region. It's not quite at the same level as the rest of the country, but it is hoped that it soon will be.

Railroads in the region have been used to great effect, and nearly every major city in Librulstan is now easily accessible by train.

Canada's Press Release

International Affairs
We are concerned with the growth of communism in Russia and wish that nation luck in resolving the conflict soon. The impact of the change in government in one of our sponsors, France and loss of control of three cities, concerns us also. Its appears the Hawaiian issues is resolved, by an agreement between the Rebels and California.

The Olympic Games is one for peaceful nations to compete. Canada would herewith like to announce that we will compete in every games from now on and the Athletes are free to compete, without fear of political interference. However, if the host nation is found guilty of an international crime against humanity, we would ask them not to go, but the decision is still theirs to make. We wish for politics and sports to be separate.

Related to this we have sent a small team to the American Football World Cup, however, our team is just new and will require more experience. We ask if our three provincial teams can join the Californian or C.S.A. cups to gain more competitive experience.

Canada has transported another Cree Totem Pole to mark the new century at the Century Fair in Berlin, Germany.

We are asking Gran Columbia if the Red Star HQ can be transferred to Ottawa, so that we can manage disaster relief efforts around the world.

After decades of Roman and Bosnian oppression, On July 5, 1900 the Turkish people have broken their ties with the Home country, and have declared their nation a Republic. Affar Ahmad of the Turkish Democratic Party won the first Election in October 1, 1900 by a landslide. Other parties like the Socialists, Social Democrats, Communist, and Nationalist, and Neo-Ottoman Party were defeated. Ahmad called it a major victory of the free market that showed that the common man is fine with the old System.
Ahmad stated that the goals of the new Republic are to build a prosperous society wherever the Turkish Flag was seen.

what upgrades do I have?

GM: It would appears the "cat is out of the bag" so to speak.

I was going to wait until the update to make the annoucement. There are three new nations being created out of the rebellions of Bosnia states, are Greece (arya126), Libya (bestrfcplayer), Turkey (CELTICEMPIRE), with one province each. They will start playing after the next update.

I have arranged with all three new nations, that they will be immune from "Declarations of War" for 5 turns, to allow them to establish their diplomatic credentials, with regards to other nations. This could be accepting vassalage, joining an alliance, or attempting to stay neutral.

So here is what I will enforce;

First two turns they are immune from "Declarations of War"/
The 3rd turn they are no longer immune, but the attacking nation suffers an immediate 30% stability penalty, for attacking without due reason. The Attacking nations allies will suffer a 20% penalty.
The 4th turn they are no longer immune, but the attacking nation suffers an immediate 20% stability penalty, for attacking without due reason. The Attacking nations allies will suffer a 10% penalty.
The 5th turn they are no longer immune, but the attacking nation suffers an immediate 10% stability penalty, for attacking without due reason. The Attacking nations allies are unaffected.

They are also aware that if their actions in the game are so disruptive, they could lose this protection. Current 19 players may petition in the Iron and Blood Group for a new Nation to have this protection removed and if the majority of players (10 or more) agree, I will make it so. The new Nation can argue their case in the same group.

I have decided to give these nations a bit more breathing room following the events of Boj China a couple of turns back, where it was immediately DoW'ed.
...for very, very good reasons.;)

Veeery interesting... veeery interesting indeed.

Fixed. :D

On July 9th, the people of Libya declared their independence from Bosnia. The strong national identity of Libya became apparent, as they were not to be ruled from anyone, let alone Europeans. But, President Jhad Mal has stated that Libya would ally with Europe if faced with any threat.

During the first ever Libyan election, Jhad Mal and his New People's party (democrats) took a staggering 65% of the popular vote. The other parties in the running were: The Libyan Socialist party at 20%, The Party of Allah at 10% (the party of Allah would be comparable to the Muslim Brotherhood) and The Workers of Libya (Communist Party) took 5% of the popular vote.

Also, the goal of Libya is to become a first-class nation, form strong alliances, stop the spread of communism, and create a free and just society.

Will they keep their current factory totals? Greece currently has 0 factories, and the other two don't have very much.

GM: All stats for the new nations will be revealed in the next update

A little more elaborate write up will be coming from Greece sometime tonight.

GREECE

Flag of the United Monarchic Republic of Greece

On September 26th, the same day that the Treaty of Sonoma was signed on the other side of the world, the Greek people rose up. The lack of a viable economy for the past half a century had cost the Bosnian Sultanate to become very unpopular with the general populace outside of the few high ups in Greek society that were paid under the table. On the 26th of September, they rose up in arms against the very small Bosnian force stationed there. Little blood was shed however, as the Bosnian commander was captured while he was in bed with another, and quickly surrendered the entire province, sending out an order to all military units to give up their arms and be taken into custody, on the condition that he could finish what he had started in bed that night.

And so while the Bosnians were busy trying to crush the rebellion in other, more important parts of their empire, Greece was free for the time being. The problem was though, that they were as divided as the Bosnian empire on how to proceed. Some wanted to restore the city states of old, as most Greeks still considered their city of birth to be their nationality, not Greece herself. Others wanted a monarchy in order to gain order and get Greece back on its feet. Still others wished to implement a Direct Democracy as it worked so well for Athens in the past. However this was not to be, as the large population and vastness of Greece would not allow it.

Fighting in the Greek Civil War

As a result, some of the more violent groups took to violance to achieve their means, but not long after, everyone was fighting. If you werent fighting, you were getting killed. It is thought that almost a quarter of Greece's population died in this destructive internal war.

Soon, by the summer of 1901, random violence was slowly coming to a close, and organized battles between 5 distinct factions were starting to replace them. These 5 factions were the following:

The Communists under Brigadier General Josef Stalin.

The Sword of Allah under Hussein Hilmi Pasha.

Direct Democracy Front, led by a man who has taken the name of Pericles of Athens. Nothing else is known about him.

Monarchists, led by self proclaimed King Napateate II.

And Sparta, led by the two kings of King Lacedaemon, and King Ariston.
Easily the two fiercest battlegrounds in the opening months of the faction phase, would be Mount Olympus and Athens. Athens was seen by many to be the true birthplace of democracy, and the natural capital of the country, and was fiercely pursued by all the factions, excluding Sparta. Mount Olympus was seen as a historical, cultural, and strategic landmark by all factions, and everyone, even Sparta, send their most elite forces to ensure that it fell into their hands.

Mount Olympus, the bloodiest battleground of the entire war.

The battle for Mount Olympus lasted the length of the conflist, and indeed thew end of the battle signified the end of the war. For the rest of 1901 thought, it was clear that the Communists, who had established their HQ at the nearby city of Thessaloniki, had the homefield advantage, and only when the rest of the factions briefly united to push them back did they face any failures in battle. Several thousand dead lay on the foothills after the opening shots of the battle, and several more thousand lay dead every night when the fighting would slow down as they collected the dead.

To the east, the Monarchists were making great strides by capturing Preveza and Ioanina and the surrounding lands, weakening the hold of the Communists upon them. A few minor battles happened between the scattered Communist force and the organized legions of the Monarchists during this time, until the battle Edessa when the Monarchists attempted to cut off the communists on Mount Olympus from their HQ. It didnt work however, mostly due to a brilliant young Communist General named Avraam Benaroya. he managed to lure the Monarchists into a trap and decimate their force, leaving their army as a shadow of its former self. This was also due to their advanced weapons of Polish and Colombian make compared to the scavenged Bosnia weapons that the Monarchists were using.

To the south, Athens burned. Most of the civilians were either dead, in an army, or trying to fight their way out. The monarchists and Communists, in mirror of their northern armies, focused on each other while the other chipped their flanks to pieces. The DDF was particularly strong in this area, and emerged in the spring of 1902 as the almost de facto ruler of the city, until the arrows of Allah came. These came in the form of a brand new Caliphate Artillery prototype that used a new type of ammo which was a combined incendiary and shrapnel explosive. These were used to great effect by the sword of Allah, in what was known later at the Arrows of Allah offensive. The DDF, which had concentrated about half of its force to Athens, was quickly in a route to neaby Thebes. Their HQ was also based in Athens and was one of the first places to fall to the arrows. Thebes was their only backup base in the area, as their entire army was split between Olympus and Athens, although a few companies had been sent to secure some of the more important islands. Most of these islands however were now under the control of the Sword. By fall 1902 it was considered suicide by many to enter the city of Athens, although thanks to their own toys, the Muslims had captured a ruined city that wasnt to be the capital any time soon.

While all this was happening, Sparta was quietly consolidating their territory on the Peloponnese peninsula. Soon they controlled all but the most stubborn holdouts, and were looking elsewhere. In the fall of 1901 they sent a small elite force to Mount Olympus, one that would enjoy great successes and defeats respectively although few men in it would come home alive due to the massacre of the eastern foothills. Soon though, the Spartans were on the receiving end of a chain of aid from Sicily, which was loosely under the control of France. Greece and Sicily had long been intertwined centuries ago, and the native Sicilians soon felt compelled to aid their greek cousins. Sparta was using the old ways of government, and were naturally the ones who received aid from Sicily, as Sicily wanted to see something similar to the old City State system. This aid was a little bit of everything, from brand new french gun prototypes, to entrenching tools, to ships with which to oppose the Athenian and Muslim navies. A volunteer platoon was even sent over in secret, although this unit saw little action and served as a garrison for the most part.

The war at sea was a whole different story however. At first, the DDF in the tradition of Athens of old had the largest, and indeed the only navy due to seizing Bosnian ships at port in Athens. They used this small fleet in order to quickly take the more important islands in the Aegean, even though they were mere ships of the line with a single ironclad. Outdated though they were, with no opposition in battle they worked fine. then the caliphate, or someone else with sympathies for the Muslims, supplied the Sword of Allah with its own small fleet. It was composed of a mere 3 destroyers, though they were very modern. Only a few years old. When they met at the battle of Rhodes, the Caliphate obliterated the Athenians before the Athenians could even get within range. The Age of Sail truly was over.

Now, by January 1903, Sparta was gearing up for an offensive. This came on the 13th on Athens, when the Spartans blitzed through the southern suburbs in a surprise raid enabled by their new navy of destroyers, equal to that of the Muslims. This raid managed to destroy almost all of the prototype artillery, leaving only one piece left that had been sent to Olympus. The main force then came from the east over land, and Sparta had control of half the city before the fighting bogged down due to the Muslims' mines from a foreign source. These mines laid across the road for up to a mile forced Sparta into bottlenecks and back alleys and stopped them from using their mind numbing tactics. Choosing to instead encircle toe remains of the city in Sword control, they marched north.

On March 12th they set out, and on the 15th they had take Preveza from its newfound communist overlords. Sparta soon discovered that the Monarchists were on their last legs, holed up in Ioannina, being assaulted 24/7 by the communists. The siege had been going on for 2 months now, about the time the Spartans launched their offensive. Edessa had been a turning point in the north, and the communists had capitalized. Sparta chose to strike hard and fast, with its column led by King Lacedaemon, and they manged to pocket the Communists into 2 divisions. These were quickly under assault by the Monarchists in a counterattack, and while the communists were pushed out of the city a second Spartan force managed to sneak into the Monarchists flank and take the city from them. Soon, the entire Monarchist army, and a good portion of the Communist one, was surrounded and was being hard pressed to survive the three way battle.

On March 29th, the Monarchists surrendered, and were made to swear allegiance to the kings of Sparta. The king himself was executed. The monarchists were then used to help eliminate the communists, which took a further 3 days because of the trenches they had hastily built.

Soon, the two spartan king splsit the army between them, and continued to march east, capturing the last holdouts of the Communists and King Ariston even managed to raze Thesseloniki to the ground when its citizens took up arms in a defiant show of support to the communists. Every man in the city fought, and every bit of the city burned.

Spartans advancing into the wreckage of Thessaloniki after an artillery barrage.

Soon, all that was left was Mount Olympus, Thebes, and Larissa. Thebes was held by the DDF, Larissa by the Sword, and Mount Olympus was still contested between the 4 remaining factions since the communists still had overall control of the mountain itself and the northeastern approaches. King Ariston took to assaulting these and they fell with ease. This was because the communists had thrown the bulk of their troops into a defense of Mount Olympus itself, which was under attack by a temporary alliance of DDF and Sword troops. The last prototype artillery piece was making great hits on the communist forces, and their defenses were crumbling. Ariston hurried to hit the communists in their flank so that Sparat wouldnt have to assult uphill the DDF-Sword coalition. Lacedfaemon proceeded to take Larissa and Thebes with ease as the remaining troops had been sent to Olympus. It appeared that the DDF and Sword leadership thought if they could take it, they could hold off any Spartan assaults until aid arrived, although in what form, historians debate even today.

The final battle took place on the slops of Mount Olympus itself. The prototype artillery piece, now nicknamed Slicer, had turned its attention to Ariston, and so Arston began to dig in to avoid the burning shrapnel. A forest fire was soon started in the area, and Ariston took massive casualties while putting it out, a sign that he had great respect for the mountain as a cultural landmark.

The DDF then turned on, and proceeded to slaughter, their allies the Sword. However, in the process the Slicer was destroyed, and they therefore had little choice but to surrender to the newly arrived Spartan army under Lacedaemon.

Athens after the Greek Civil War (GCW). Most other cities looked like it too, except on the Peloponnese peninsula, which had been almost untouched by the war.

And on July 4th 1903, The Greek Civil War officially ended as a National assembly was elected, and the two kings were officially crowned. The Ephors were selected, the damos of the people was formed, and the Council of Elders were chosen and put into office.

For those who know nothing of Ancient Sparta government, here is a quick Summary, adjusted for modern times:

The Apella is the collective citizenry, which in this case is not only Sparta, but the whole of Greece. They comprise the core of the army, both regular and wartime, and vote on any alternatives to policy as presented by the Council of Elders.

The Ephors are the supreme 'court' of the land. They handle all judicial things, but answer to nobody. If there is a tie, since there are 8 of them, then the kings decide on the final ninth vote together. They serve until 60 or for 10 years, whichever is longest, and are appointed by the kings.

The National Assembly is a new addition, and is separate from the Apella. It is a general legislative body that can check the kings and the Council of Elders at times. It is responsible for all foreign affairs related business that is not covered by the kings, and for setting the national budget which can limit the council. It is nation wide and elected by the Apella.

The Council of Elders is a group of 28 people over the age of 75 that have formerly been a part of the national assembly or been an Ephor. They are chosen by the national assembly and approved by the Apella. They preside over high state decisions such as going to war, expansion, large scale building projects, etc.

The kings are of the Agiad and Eurypontid families, 1 of each at any given time. They hold total control over the military, and over any and all religious matters, although this second role is mostly empty right now. They also can break a judicial tie, and can veto anything in the National Assembly, as well as propose anything in either the NA or the council of Elders. They also are the ones who can call for a national election of the NA at any time as long as both consent, and it has been at least 1 year since the last election. The election can take place any time from 1 month to 9 months after the call, depending on what he declares when he calls for it. if they dont call for an election 6 years after the last one, one is automatically held. They can also apply to the Apella in times of war for complete control over the country, overriding the NA and council and establishing what they please for the war effort, and dismissing the Ephors until peace if they so wish. One king will then be responsible for foreign issues while the other for domestic ones, although both will hold military commands during the war at the same time.

The National Assembly is to be located in Athens, while the Kings now preside in Sparta when not commanding a military unit at the front, the Ephors at Thebes, and the Council of Elders in Thebes.

The home of the National Assembly.

Thus, the United Monarchic Republic of Greece was formed.

GM: wait and see in the update

Most likely either NPCed (in which case its almost certainly a communist NPC) or its defecting to another state. OR, it might be the subject of an event to a surrounding nation/Bosnia/France.

Also, King Lacedaemon demands to know why Greece's sovereignty has to be discussed longer than Libya and Turkey in order to be recognized!

King Ariston on the other hand sends a polite telegraph asking the same thing, which also apologizes for King Lacedaemon's rudeness above.
